  1. Hi folks, I know this forum as gone quiet, and I'm way late, as everyone has migrated to Global. That's ok, means I'm not bothering anyone. Anyways, I can play this game over and over and that's as the Allies, against the computer! There are nail biting moments all throughout: France, UBoats, Africa, Russia (many times), D Day. Not only can I play over and over, I do! (my wife is very puzzled by this, as she knows me to be an impatient person who doesn't like routine too much - oh, she does not understand). Anyways, here's a short synopsis, of what I do against the computer (set to max). I wouldn't mind suggestions, at All! Would love them. 1) I try for increasing the industrial and production tech for Russian and U. S. as early as possible, doubling down on them even. 2) I fortify Vorozneh, just above, in front and make a line going below and down behind the D river. Recently (yesterday, in fact, I not only lost Rostov and Stalingrad, but found, too late, I hadn't reinforced the Grozny area. I actually lost this game! And this is after over a hundred playings (victories). How did that happen? Anyways, I originally tried to fortify Moscow, but from what I've seen, that's a no go. I'm wondering if anyone has tried fortifying around Rostov? 3) For England, uboats tech, then infantry tech. I have patince on the Uboat war, and am willing to lost mmps for Canada, til ready, and for Egypt for a year or more, and then only if I'm willing. 4) In Africa, I defend, patiently at El Agheila, then take the Vichy colonies, then Sicily. 5) I always invest in getting Irag. I always fight the Italian Navy with my french and english ships. So that's a no brainer, to my mind. 6) For Russia, I try to invest in Air tech, and buy air planes, but sometimes I over invest in tech, at the expense of the ground forces (sometimes to my deep regrets. Sometimes, just to a nail biting smile). 7) For the U.S. I can't usually get them into France before '43. And sometimes, Russia can't quite last, very well, at least, till then. Nail biter! I actually don't bite my nails, but I sure lean forward in my chair. Anyways, that's what I do. Suggestions for improvements would be appreciated. And if I'm saying something newer players should discover for themselves, please let me know. In the beginning, as Russia, I got crushed many a time, and that was on standard ratings. Also Anyways, this is the best game I've seen on the computer, for someone like me (an old Civ fan, Clash of Steel, Third Reich before computers, and on that goes). Everyone is all psyched up for Global, me no less, but goodness, this game will always be on my hard drive (unless my wife gets mad and deletes it).

  3. Not sure where to place this comment, but Questions seems to work. I'm addicted to the game and play W&W and PDE (endlessly). In the early game, just before Germany attacks France, the computer version takes Denmark, and then by association Norway. On occasion, it's happened that with bad weather, Germany might not eliminate the Danish defending unit on the turn it's attacked, and this in turn can impact the plans and timing of attack (not that I mind - I'm always the Allies). Historically, Denmark fell in two hours, before most people there woke up. There were the minorest of casualties (sixteen danish soldiers, it's said). No partisans to speak of. There's more in Wikipedia, but I've said enough for my question... In the upcoming game, are there going to be some minor countries - like Denmark perhaps - possibly Ireland, Portugle (I don't know if Greenland or Iceland actually ever got an army) - that will have no army to defend itself with? Kind of like a fait accompli? (I know that's mispelt, but you get the gist) Further, and I don't know if the script allows it, will some of those minor countries have a variable strength of defense? Kind of like, ok, I know Denmark is weak (not picking on my own country, but it's an example), and experience shows me the max defense it gets is 3, but sometimes it's 2, or 1, or not even there? If it's a fixed number, will that always be a strength of 3 as in the present games including the Pacific Strike version? I'm curious. Thank you.
  4. From me and the penguins, Happy Holidays back to you, Hubert and all the rest of you here. Even, and especially, Captain Kuniworth (he really should be promoted to Major)
  5. One of the things I used to love to read on this forum (and still love reading on other forums), is the after action reports. What ever happened to them? Are they kept in another zone of the forums? Also, on a similar note, where does one troll for opponents? (oh! wrong word, not that I think about it, search, I meant, yes, search) I'm sure this has all been mentioned before and guidance provided, but on the day that occurred, I must have been looking at penguins... In the meantime, Seasons greetings...
  6. I think this is a good concept, for my two cents. Especially in head to head play, of which I've done little. When playing the AI, I've had times when key tech (like Russian industrial output or British ASW) just didn't come to happen. Which is fine, because it all leads to what if type outcomes and tense expectations everytime you hit the end turn button. But on head to head, I think it could get frustrating to play with excellent strategy only to lose to random elements. But only sometimes. so an on/off switch before play incorporating elements of what you suggest might be excellent.
  7. Perhaps we should get back on topic and discuss penquins... I confess I did use the alias of Brian the Wise back then. And based on the reread, I obviously was not all that wise I'm still not all that wise (on reflection it's pretty dumb to put the word Wise in ones alias, actually). Kuniworth, I commend your memory. I mean goodness, seven years have passed, and you connect all the dogs, dots I mean, almost immediately. Impressive. Very. (Gotta say, with the exception of that day, which I put out of my mind, good memories of back then. Good people too.)
  8. Hi, Folks. Been gone from the forum for a while, since SC1 (I was so pleased with my Dutch gambit back then, and buying a French tank in defense against Rambo, back then. I still got crushed, but that's the fun of it), but this seems an open ended topic of discussion, so I went through the effort of getting all logged in. Anyways, I've bought all the SC's thus far, and like them all (much to my wife's chagrin) I'm as curious as anyone as to when SC Global is going to out. Using history as a guide (and a good memory, which I don't have), how long after SC2 was announced, complete with a forum, was it until it was released? Same question goes for Weapons and Warfare, Patton Drive East, and Pacific Strike. Extrapolate from that, and I think we'd have a fairly accurate date for prediction for SC Global. Hubert has been fairly consistant over time. I'd do this, but I don't have that information (or memory) Anyways, it's good to be back. I'll try to stay on topic, though sometimes I like to discuss penquins.
