  1. im thinking nows my chance to get in the fuel depot undercover and be ignored by the evil Axis forces!!

im playing a CMFI PBEM and it involves battling up a hill toward the VL (one of those unfair ME maps discussed elsewhere), at the start there were MG teams all on the crest of a ridge, ive cleared the ridge and moved on and its behind me, ive marched and driven over the dead bodies but i still get contacts there from the ridge

  2. i can post some shots if you'd like, when i get home - we added a few VLs, theres now another railway line running perpendicular to the original and this has a railway station on the outskirts of the main town, theres a marshalling yard at one end of the original railway line, theres a fuel depot in the main town, an Axis HQ Chateau in one corner, and a hill top monastery overlooking the whole map from one side (im a sucker for cheesy hollywood war films and these have all been subjects of special missions and/or objectives, next would have been a church and a cemetery from The Eagle Has Landed, but theres already one there!)

  3. In a shameful display of unpatriotic proportions im up for a big battle with an esteemed PBEM opponent as the Brits, but i dont know enough about the differences between Cromwell and Churchill tanks to know which i should be taking?

im likely to be facing Panthers but i figured id take Fireflys for those, so what are the fundamental differences between Churchill and Cromwell - do they have similar roles?

  4. But hang on, I'm a garlic eater and have never been to Italy, Japan or Korea.

I shall wait for an opportune moment to be offended :)

i think its usually customary to suggest your lot dont have a sense of humour, or can be a little.......... grumpy

ill wait for the ignore announcement!

  5. Not that it is any consolation, but it's an old guy asking:) And not that you will answer in the affirmative, but if there is anything I can do to help with it I am willing. Like I said upstream, this map/h2h-scenario is Awesome. Like many others I miss the old CMx1 operations (I'm actually in the midst of making a huge map - 4Kx4K and no where near as nice as yours and not historical - to be played h2h like an operation), and I think expanding the map, adding and hour, and adding the town as an objective would accomplish a lot in that regard.

ill bear that in mind, i honestly want to do more with the map, and im not adverse at all to map 1 being Ingouf, map 2 being as it is now with some improvements, and map 3 including an expanded Carentan........ i very much appreciate your comments, youve no idea how it feels to have a scenario appreciated (certainly by me anyway)...... when i get the time after a crazy period at the mo lets look into expanding those thoughts!

  6. I'm happy to defer to those better read than me on the subject, I always imagined that their specialist training would make them an expensive waste to use as straight line infantry.

I tend to squirrel them away on Hide once they're out of ammo ( ideally on a VL, admittedly ;) ), with the exception of the aforementioned Ammo-bearer-LMG-team :)

on the subject of VLs, to save me starting a new thread, is there anyway in game to recognise that youve captured a VL? ive never, ever valued the 'but CM1 did it this way' arguement, or used it, but IIRC the VL changed to your flag above it

  7. that was my plan all along Broadsword - to put the map out there and let people play it until i could put realistic FJs on

The most researched part of the scenario is the initial attack on Ingouf as there is much documented evidence to go on and the numbers for both sides are historically accurate - as are the units (down to the man for the US and an equivalent non FJ number for the Germans)

The reason i closed down the LOS is without the tree cover and bocage cover the US get destroyed coming over the bridge, each and every time on testing they would come across get pinned and the entire US force would be stuck on the bridge and then the mortars would come down

In your opinion then, would it be better to have just the initial forces without the reinforcements and draw a line just above the Ingouf farm and cafe area and have it as a company sized battle concentrating on just the farm capture? This is actually the only unabstracted part of the map and i was pleased to read a guy who drives down the ingouf farm road every day recognises the terrain and features on the map

  8. Yes, undoubtedly the best H-t-H battle I've played. The map and scenario are a Disneyland for small-unit infantry tactics--on a regimental scale. Many nuanced terrain-influenced decisions are necessary. I'm playing the Germans, so I am in my favorite element, defending against a tough/elite force playing a hold/delaying action. The map is super for that. Broadsword and I have had several small-sized (section/squad + and squad/platoon-) close range firefights that have had us on the edge of our seats waiting impatiently for the next turn to see how our orders played out.

But the reinforcements were a real pain. Undercovergeek, if you could place the German reinforcements on or closer to the main road out of Carentan, incrementally, say one company a turn with about 3-5 minutes between turns after the initial entry, that would help immensely. The unit numbering issue is an Allies problem only because the Axis companies were numbered, of course.

    Thanks!

awesome feedback - thanks for that guys. i will admit to been a bit phased by the size of it all once the reinforcements turned up. Ok now that i know what to do ill make a few changes - really really appreciate the feed back guys - thanks very much

i wanted the initial set up to be spot on, re the reinforcements i think i held off on committing masses of time until the FJs turned up - but fear not - im on it

  9. out of curiousity, because im sure you researched the product before you bought it - if you knew there wasnt a lobby, if you knew there wasnt an editor youd be happy with, if youd read the problems with assaulting, if you knew all this and you knew that it was going to **** you off so much why did you buy the game?

and if you didnt know all those things, and you knew you wanted all those things you should have checked - nowhere, ANYWHERE, on this site have BF promised the things youre looking for, so whos fault is it youre disappointed theyre not here?

you bought the wrong game for you and its Battlefronts fault??
