  1. American airborne troops are wearing regular US infantry uniforms, by the way (sorry for hijacking your thread, but there seems to be a slight mix up regarding the new uniform system).

My guess is this can be solved by the users themselves, I'll take a look into this tonight.

No I dont think it is solvable by the users ... for new scenarios it works - but uniform data for the old scenarios doesnt appear to be editable - presumably cause it uses an old data format. They all apear to have been set to standard and that is why airborne troops are wearing standard army uniforms. As I say - it is not editable in the scenario editor so is not fixable. Presumably someone should have written some code to allocate airborne uniforms to airborne troops in the stock scenarios. It likely explains the other uniform issues ....

  2. Shaders also provide per-pixel lighting and normal mapping - which generally allows us to put more details on models without decreasing performance, and making the lighting look better. Get in close to an infantryman and you'll notice the details of his model - belt, insignia, facial structure, things like that - appear to be in 3D instead of just being a flat texture.

Yes - uniforms are hugely different after 2.0

  3. Hmm. Tricky. The argument was that commercially speaking BF really should make both games on the same platform for the following reason:

I am going to offer you two cars and one is called a CMFI 2012 and is the new improved model of the CMBN 2011. Which one are 99% of the public going to go for?

My money is they go fo the improved version. They may like it lots but then are they going to want to buy the older game and learn its shortcomings - very probably not.

Now I could offer you two models called CMBN 2012 and CMFI 2012 and it is just possible you prefer Normandy, or you like both and will buy both. And whats more they have the same engine so its easier for new parts

    I hope that is clear.

My beef about paying for the upgrade is that I think I have been a guinea pig for CMBN whilst it has had its kinks knocked out. As it happens I am also an idiot and paid BF eleven or twelve bucks of which they will get ten bucks for all the past pleasure I had with CMAK. And perhaps one day will have with CMX2V2 : )

But you still make no sensible point. what you seemingly fail to understand is that the only people paying 10$ for the upgrade are those WHO HAVE ALREADY BOUGHT THE CMBN V1.0 game - they have also already said going forward only V2.0 of normandy will exist. Where are the lost sales therefore in your argument ? they are infact offering exactly the situation you suggest they should.

Do you read your posts back to yourself ?

Calling yourself a ginea pig just because you have played an earlier version of a game is ridiculous. Virtually every game out there these days gets a version two you have to pay for.

The only argument to be made is that essentially those paying for the 10$ upgrade have funded the development of that for new customers who get V2.0 normandy when they buy new. Steve already said that didnt cover the cost of doing it and if thats the case I am more than happy to do it otherwise it wouldnt have happened.

Seriously you are talking about BF in the same terms as microsoft and given your mealie mouthed critisism I wonder why you come here or buy theri games at all. Why dont you just spend your money on something you dont feel you are being fleeced over.

Really your bitching is nauseatingly petty.

  4. Good to hear the other side so we can actually talk constructively about perceptions and reputation.

    For instance:

I don't doubt the truth of that but the other way to put it is how many CMBN's would you sell if it were not updated to V2.0? Not very many. So the decision to upgrade CMBN means BF have a highly saleable product rather than a lame duck and can recover the previous investment in CMBN v1.0.

Looked at it that way means BF took a rational decision to maximise previous work rather than an ungracious:

Most game developers I suspect do not bring out the same game within months of the original utilising pretty much all the same theatre rules and scale etc etc. and if they did charging full whack might raise some hackles.

I did buy the upgrade a couple of days ago. I do try to keep you in business despite the opinions that seem to be held on pesky customers and the need to communicate.

In what world was CMBN 1.0 a lame duck. ? You are arguing that the upgrade is not worth the 10 bucks and then saying it makes it a totally different "saleable" game. Seriously you need to look at just how lame your argument is and stop wanting to keep the box the cake you just ate came in as well.

  5. Thanks!

Market Garden will require Version 2.0. We are planning on offering a bundle with the Upgrade for $5 off. Considering the Upgrade only costs $10, that's as good as we can make it.

No doubt there will be a bundle with Market Garden/Commonwealth. Usually we bundle these with the Base Game, but we are considering bundling the Modules together on their own.

As a side note for conspiracy theorists... we did not purposefully set out to make Arnhem require Upgrade 2.0. In fact, our original intention was to make it available for both v1.0 and v2.0 customers. HOWEVER... once we made the changes for Upgrade 2.0 we realized that was simply impossible to do. Arnhem requires specific features introduced into Upgrade 2.0, many of which are not evident to the end user.

Trying to maintain two code bases going backwards, with customized features on/off depending on the version, is impractical for us. In the unlikely event we ever find ourselves with a Module which is effortless backwards compatible, we will market it as such to older version customers. That's because we do not see Modules or Packs as a way to increase Upgrade sales.

    Steve

Dont worry about the moaners. It is what works for battlefront that enables them to keep pumping this stuff out I am concerned about. I have so much crap sitting on my hardrive that I paid just as much for and dont get an ounce of play out of compared to the CM stuff. The single most important thing is not the pathetic whining about 10 bucks but that you stay in business and keep giving us the games.

  6. Here's a screen grab of the antitank gun leader and gunner wandering off into the sunset (gun in foreground and the errant two crew members shown by the icon). They went walkabout from setup.

Well I posted this in tecnical support - but no answer. Would be nice if BF give a response to this issue as it seriously friggs the game.

  7. thejetset

Three copies of CMBN, one of the Commonwealth, none of the CMFI and one V2 upgrade. Do you see a sign of diminishing willingness to buy. And as for getting mates to buy, or giving the game as presents - NEVER AGAIN.

And no I have not counted the postage, import taxes, and the exchange rate costs.

    Nidan : )

I have no idea which bit you don't understand. My cunning ruse over paying $10 and making people feel good? That is subtle.

    Rocky

I ordered CMBN and paid up before the demo was released. Check the dates : ) Now why the demo came out after the rush for the metal box edition might just show how savvy BF are! : )

As for the games you mention I think if you check closely they were spread over a number of years and were in completely different areas and had the same fundamental engine. So we could play them and have tournaments and all that stuff for a couple of years at least.

Now if they had produced CMBO in 2000 then CMBB in 2001 with a different and improved system and then a new version of CMBO V2 also in 2001 you might well think your comments and work on playing CMBO V1 were being used in the new version. And of course the kicker comes when the patches only work with V2.0!

As for CMBN I have not touched it since March I think because I think it very fecked and tediously micro-managing. Hopefuly .......

Well the point is I dont really give a toss what you think. that is what battlefront are doing - and more importantly what they need to do. Seriously - 10 $ is a box of friggin soap powder to put in my washing machine. No. really thats what it is. I probably buy 20 of those a year if not more I really dont see any of your points. So thats 200 bucks on soap powder and 10 bucks on a game that gives me hours of enjoyment. the soap powder gives me none. Seriously dude - get some friggin perspective on it.

  8. No you are right ... even with a face command when you order deploy without any movement then they go bannanas and run all over the place.

Thats not good - suggest this will need a hotfix from BF as it is bloody annoying.

the only way I found to resolve it was to give a move order to the same action spot they already occupy.

Deploy after a move seems to be working ok ...

  9. Yes JRMC, I want BF to answer my question. Some of us like hard copies. That's why we bought the "metal" can disk holders for CMBN and CMFI.

I just don't want to pay $30 for hard copy and d/l now, only to find that I get a hard copy with the MG game. If that is the case then of course the $10 download is worth it now. However, so far, no one seems to have the definitive answer to this. And BF hasn't responded to the question.

Well yes - but the tin case was for the modules ... so you wont be able to put your upgrade disk in it in any case. Really - I cant see why you would want a hard copy of this in the least - as some one else said - you can burn to about a hundred and one things these days - so you are essentially paying BF 30 bucks to burn you a DVD. I can see some may want hard stuff for collectors sake but for this ?

And my point was - until BF answer this themselves everything else is just speculation so why clog up the thread with more of it ?

  10. If you add enough ZZZs in front of the mod - then yes. But I have noticed that this mod doesn't really look good with Aris terrain, as Aris tends to desaturate things. Rambler's trees look too bright and green with the rest of Aris stuff :)

Yes - I had to pull this mod as it looked out of place with the aris stuff ... too bright.

  11. As I've opined numerous times, it would be extremely foolish for BFC to write a dumbed down Us (US) vs Them (latest sinister Asiatic Horde) backstory for this particular game -- e.g. Russia = Serbia, Ukraine = Bosnia.

I hope both sides get equal time, and that in the backstory it will NOT be clear who the good guys really are (Are the NATO intervenors peacekeepers or neo-imperialists? Do the "Allies" trust one another? What's keeping the nukes from flying? etc. etc.)

I suspect there are a lot of Russians who will play this game, and if they see their side being dumbed down into cardboard villains, either in the backstory or via various forms of in game "ubermensching" (unsplittable squads), look for hacked "warez" versions of the game to appear in pretty short order.....

Well - given the Ukraine is heading away from the more liberal pro western stance it took after the orange revolution and has formally withdrawn its request to be part of NATO - I am wondering what the scenario will be. I suppose the obvious would have been a russian move to invade - but it seems more likely these days that the ukraine would be on russias side in any conflict.

I suppose there could be some issue with poland - but I would have thought the fight would be in poland then. given the game will require NATO to be on ukrainian soil I am kind of struggling to see a scenario where that would happen. Still - I stuggled with the syria thing and look what happened there.

In any event I am presuming that the first "blue" side in the game will be the US - so they will have to be a main protagonist and not some advisor role.

  12. Yes, if you want a d/l plus disk with the 2.0 upgrade it will cost not $10, but $30, which seems a bit steep.

However, if the v2.0 will be included in the MG disk, then the $10 for the dowload 2.0 (only) would be worth it.

you are just making it more confusing - what the hell does that mean. I think the thread is for battlefront to answer - not for you to make the same point again as you have elswhere. Why the hell does anyone want a disk for the upgrade in any case.
