  1. Hmmm... failed a 4th time. Even though I knew where every enemy unit was and played my cards accordingly..

Whoever made this mission should never allowed to make another one ever again. And should also be hanged, drawn, and quartered. My enjoyment of CMBN has come to a steaming stop in the last 24 hours thanks to this one mission. I'm open to advice, if anyone has honestly finished it. But even then, I'm unhappy having to resort to this.

Do you have to win it ? Or just not get slaughtered.

  2. I've been working on this map on and off for a couple of months now, and finally have gotten the time to finish it.

Forcing the La Fiere Causeway will depict the bloody June 9 American assault across the causeway. This scenario will come in two versions: a full depiction with a large map and battalion-sized forces, and a smaller "lite" version for people who don't like really large scenarios.

The map is almost complete and is made using Google Earth and especially Google Street View, with the features compared against period photos and topographic maps in an attempt to attain the most accurate map possible.

    Here's a comparison:

That is superb - been hoping someone would do a scenario on this - bit surprised it wasnt in the game actually - but then was a bit surprised at the paucity of airborne scenarios. Still who cares - what a freaking game !:D

  3. I'm feeling pretty good about the Pointe du Hoc scenario. Anyone feel like testing it? I'd like to get another opinion on whether it's ready or not. I can beat it easily but I know where all the enemies are. PM me with your email and I'll send it. Thanks!

Freaking hell ... that is amazing - jeez - I think BF out did themselves with this game - but with guys like you around its going to be even better ...

  4. I am one of those who skipped the CMSF generation, and so the last CM game I played was x1, whether BO or AK or even BB, I can't recall.. but one thing I DO remember is being able to highlight a unit, press 'enter' and see that units stats, along with its kills, etc. Such and such was killed, a gun was knocked out, so many infantry surrendered to this unit...is there such a key in BN? I always like to keep up with which of my units is performing above expectations...and the other way, as well. ;)

No. At the end of a battle you can see this - but not during a game - the vehicle stats are displayed graphically now - though not as detailed as the old

  5. This will be fixed with v1.01. A last minute tweak backfired for certain lighting conditions and we discovered it too late to make the change for v1.0.

    Steve

Excellent - and thanks steve for such an excellent game. I have dreamed of something like this since I was a kid. At the moment I feel like one :). the wait - whilst long - was more than worth it.

  6. I can definitely confirm that there will be no release today. It would have been nice, agreed, and we have been shooting for a friday release for some time, but we want to take the extra days over the weekend to digest the demo first, and make sure everything is prepared just right for the release.

Thanks for that . I played with the scenario editor and seemed to me mist and fog wernt working - just saw black between ground and sky - have an Nvidia GT 8800. with latest drivers.

  7. First off let me just say how thankful I am to everyone here, both at battlefront and the forum for making this game a wargamers dream come true. Its been a hell of a long road but now that we're finally here it's everything I had expected and quite a bit more.

But now on to my main point. Now that I've gotten my hands all over the demo and played all three missions multiple times from both sides (except the tutorial of course) I'm yearning even more the actual release. I'm hoping that it will be released tomorrow but I'm not holding my breath. I read in the status update that the release will be a few days after the demo release and is this still the case? Any info will be GREATLY appreciated!!!

I cant see a release on a friday. Monday or tuesday next week most likely.

  8. I don't see the bitterness.

Its obvious that there are those on the boards that cannot for some reason allow anyone to have anything negative at all to same about BF.

"However, if this turns into the end of May, I will be disappointed that my money has been in their hands with no product for a much longer time period. Now I know time frames are not absolute but the lack of communication is also telling to me."

Sorry - that sounded bitter to me ... point is - if you pre ordered why? If they had said July - would you not have pre ordered ? Why are you "disappointed" that they had your money for a few more days / weeks ? If you were worried about them "having your money for any period of time - why did you preorder. Your argument is specious and therefore just sounds bitter. I am far from a BF fanboi.

  9. I am very concerned as well, if we do not see a demo today or very early next week my guess would be another week without a release. Every day is getting further away from the end of April. I pre-purcahsed and was willing to wait. However, if this turns into the end of May, I will be disappointed that my money has been in their hands with no product for a much longer time period. Now I know time frames are not absolute but the lack of communication is also telling to me.

Does it matter - I am sure BF are just trying to be nice and try and give us some kind of realistic date ... if they had just said "it will be july" a couple of weeks ago we wouldnt even be having the conversation. And they could then release it when they like and if they deliver it early everyone thinks there are great. If you didnt want your money in their hands then you shouldnt have pre orderted. That is after all the point of a pre order. Really - I undedrstand the frustration - but the bitterness toward BF is unwarranted.

  10. The gamerswithjobs.com interviewer said it, though, and reiterated that on the forums here, and he was told that by the folks at BF. Not worth arguing over, though, since it appears it's not happening this week. Probably have run into some last minute snags in the demo release which is not unexpected. It'll be a better demo for it. Sigh.

I feel the sigh my friend ...

I feel somewhat lucky as I have been "anticipating" the release since the infamous 2009 xmas post. So by now - I am well past the excited stage and am at the resigned it will be here when its here stage as I have long since taken any formal estimates - even when they only try to predict a week ahead - with a pinch of salt.:o

  11. Given the ongoing changes mentioned in another thread, can we now assume there's no demo today? That "a demo next week" was, in fact, a bit premature to announce so publicly?

[i just a moment ago opened my Mastercard bill and there it is, USD$74.00BATTLEFRONT.COM, funny coincidence, that. Sniff.]

I dont think battlefront ever said that

  12. Im getting worried here. After May 10:th i will not have internet at home for a couple of weeks. Will the .exe file be available for a friend to download and burn it to CD? How shall I do?

I think you are out of luck ? You will need an internet connection - on the machine you intend to play it on - to activate the game - even if you have the install.

I may be wrong here though

  13. I've always been partial to "hurry up and wait" myself. ;)

This is all a mystery to me - I thought Steve had already said it wasnt coming Friday. I presume that meant the demo and as well as the game ...

As far as I know they would never release a game on a friday anyhow.

You guys are torturing yourselves for nothing ...

  14. Elmar can be abrasive (he's Dutch, you can't take them anywhere) but:

Is also pretty sharp in tone. Sections in ALL CAPS ARE LIKE SHOUTING. If you shout at someone in ordinary conversation you would not expect a cordial response. Plus the conversation is recorded throughout the thread. Common forum etiquette is to review the thread rather than DEMANDING THAT I BE ANSWERED NOW!!! Considering that Moon answered that question you apparently got in a state about two or three times in between your posts, following that etiquette would have been useful, no?

No - the caps were for emphasis - for some reason I cant make anything bold or italic or underlined as those particular buttons dont appear for some text highlights - go figure, I probably should have explained that - as I said - I didnt have time to read all the posts on the thread - I accepted that Moon had answered the question.

The point with his actual answer however is that it seems to me that should I run into issues with the activation count - then it appears I am reliant - from what he said - on the "goodwill" of battlefront technical support to to let me play the game and if they "believe" me. the fact is - should battlefront ever deny me use of a game I have legally paid for - for any reason, DRM included - they are actually breaking every consumer law in quite a few lands. My point is - it is not up to me to manage their DRM scheme so I can use their product. Their DRM scheme should allow me to use their product - if I have paid for it, under any circumstances. The problem I have with DRM and Moons answer is that there is a fundamental conceit on the part of software companies that they have the right under certain circumstances to break consumer law to service their DRM system. This is not the case and an EULA is no defence for that. No one has tested it yet, irresepective however that is why many independent countries - the US trade commision and the EU are reviewing all forms of DRM system to see if they are actually breaking the law under certain circumstances.

I have no problem with DRM per se - what I have a problem with is the fact the onus appears to be on me to manage it for them so my game works.

  15. What way was that?

That I didn't like the tone of your post and thus would not go hunt down the relevant post again? What staggering injustice you have suffered, sir. Will you require psychological assistance? The number of the ICC?

In post #50 I did look up the answer you were looking for for someone else. I made a point of not doing it for you. Either I really don't like people with a number in their handle or there was a difference in the posts. I generally don't go around bullying people. Well ...not at random. *ahem*

You miss the point -there were two replies that accepted I had missed the answer and helpfully pointed out where it had been. If you didnt like the tone of my post (for what reason I still cant fathom) you could have simply not replied rather than, self importantly, pointing out why you were not going to be helpful. If you werent going to be helpful - what was the point in posting a response other than to pick a fight. I could care less about your opinion, you obviously think otherwise and that I should have the benefit of it, thats your problem not mine.

  16. I think the majority of reasonable minded customers are similar to Vanir Ausf B (er.. in this ONE regard at least ;)). I know when whenever we look into DRM solutions we rule out any that have these two side effects.

Not really how it works here. When people agree to participate here they explicitly agree to the Forum code of conduct. When questions are posed in accordance with the code of conduct, then answers are delivered as quickly and as accurately as we can. If someone can't conduct themselves in a civilized, respectful, and polite manner then the question being asked becomes less important than the manner in which it is asked. We continue to try and answer the question, but at some point we may feel compelled to disinvite that person from further participation.

Objecting to offensive behavior is not the same as being offensive. Not knowing the difference between the two does tend to indicate a fundamental lack of understanding about personal responsibility for one's own conduct. In short, worry more about your own behavior and less about the behavior of others'. The latter is our job.

    Steve

Accepted - but point out to me please what was "Offensive or Disrespectful" about the post he replied to ? It was merely a question to Moon - the disprespect shown was to his reply - not to Moon - and something he entirely deserved if he wanted to reply to me in the way he did.

  17. I think I should.

All that is indicative of a conversational tone that cannot suddenly insist on courteous and helpful replies. That you got that anyway in two out of three is well above the internet average.

Moon has exhaustively replied in this thread and others like it and to me it seemed staggeringly unfair for him to be reproached in that manner.

And you are who ? His mother ? All it shows, indeed, is that they had better manners than you do. I would respecfully suggest that Moon works for battlefront - so answering my question - in whatever tone it was phrased - is his Job.

    As you yourself said

Around here people tend to get the reply they deserve, from the forumnites as well as BFC. It's why I like this place, no blanket PR bull.

I expect if he had a problem with what or the way I said it he could have said so himself - and besides - if thats the way the forum works - you have to be able take it as well as dish it out so your umbrage at the way I said it seems somewhat contradictory.

  18. But this question has already been answered.

I'd reproduce it again but your attitude displayed here doesn't really provide me with adequate incentive.

You shouldnt presume to know my "attitude" - Unfortunately I dont have the luxury of time to read every post in a twelve page thread. My point was absolutely valid - illustrated by the fact that Moon felt the need to answer it from someone else - given I didnt know he had.

So thankyou to the other two who posted the answer I was looking for without the "attitude" you felt the need to impart yourself... especially it now puts my mind to rest about this subject.

Point of fact I have bought a new machine and had two subsequent hard drive failures in the first three months of this year plus got hit with a virus that required a clean install - so I would have hit my limit by march - hopefully BF wouldnt have presumed I was one of those taking the piss.

  19. sfhand,

I am repeating myself, but let's try it one more time: you will not have any problems doing all these activations. And in the future, if you want to replace a hard drive or motherboard, you will be able to do it as well, because you will be able to add one activation to your key per year. You will not have to contact support for that, it's an online tool. It's just like a revoke tool except it's called differently :)

    Martin

Yes but Moon - that IS NOT THE QUESTION.

The QUESTION is - what happens if you DO exceed four activations within the first year ? or the number of valid activations you have left - at any stage - What are battlefront going to do then ? Do you have to wait for your new activation before you can activate again or are battlefront going to allow you to exceed this at any point? From your previous answer I would suggest no ... the point is not whether you are likley to or how someone exceeds that limit - but - given they are a genuine paying customer - what is going to happen if they do ... if battlefronts answer is simply "tough luck" then we are in effect renting the game and it stinks. Your answer above is a politicians answer - in that it singularly just repeats what you have said before and everyone already knows and understands - but absolutely fails to answer the question everyone is actually asking.

  20. Technique doesn't work by democratic voting.

If you don't infest the thing with viruses, an NT machine since version 5.0 doesn't need a reinstall, if you clean it out a bit once and a while.

I guess you use gold cables for your audio?

What business is it of yours why I do it ? Its not a fetish - so just accept Its necessary. The point is - I am not asking you to - and I shouldnt be limited by the DRM on something I have bought if I want to.

  21. That is soo 20th century.

Why on earth would you do that with the newer versions of Windows?

Anyway, you know now that that will have a price.

You could consider using a virtual machine for your experimental and dangerous work.

You are probably in a minority of one - if you think windows operating systems still dont benefit from a re-install.
