  1. If allies DOW on Luxembourg maybe there should be some negative effect on US entry? It seems sort of cheap for allies to be able to grab Luxembourg's on turn 1 with no penalty. They weren't the aggressors which I think helped them in U.S. public opinion.
  2. Thank you! How far away is an update to this scenario, anyone know? I heard there were some changes in the works....
  3. Hi, In one test game against AI I DOW'ed Yugo after Hungary joined Germany. In another test game against AI I DOW'ed Yugo in fall of 1940 before Hungary joined Germany. In the 2nd case Turkey shifted toward allies, and Greece joined allies. Was this only because of the early DOW? Anyone know? If it only happens from early DOW or is influenced by early DOW I'd rather wait, but I don't know if that's what's going on. Thanks
  4. Still LF opponent SOE WW2. Beginner to intermediate lvl. Pls email jj.denver at yahoo dot com or PM.
  5. nvm, it seems the # next to the unit is # of months, not # of turns so that clarifies it. Thanks.
  6. Hi, I've tried to find it in the manual and strategy notes but how do you know when a unit you build will arrive? I am playing France in the 1939 scenario and it's important for me to know which month and day a 5 turn unit will arrive at. Thanks!
  7. How is balance in the 1938 CBTS? Do you prefer it over the 39 SOE? Can you compare them pls? Looking at the 38 CBTS thread it looks like a v4.1 is coming - and it looks like there might be a lot of script and other problems (no vichy, and some other things posted recently). So I guess this one isn't quite really ready yet? Thanks
  8. Hi, We are thinking of starting a PBEM of this campaign. Is there anything important that I should know such as: "there is another version to be released this weekend so wait for that new version" or "you should definitely use some mod of the scenario" or "it is so unbalanced as to be unplayable - don't waste 40 hours of your time to discover this" That sort of thing. Also, which side has the advantage in the scenario using the latest version? Thanks
  9. Hi, I am new to the game although I played some of the earlier SC iterations long ago. I'm looking for another newbie, no sharks. It would be no fun for you to beat me to pieces for 6 months anyway. I'd prefer to play the WW2 scenario, but am also willing to play WW1 call to arms if I can't find a game of WW2. I'd take either side in WW2, but prefer Entente in WW1. Pls email me at jj dot denver at yahoo dot com. I am not sure what turn rate I can support - probably a turn a day I think. Cheers
  10. You are right. That is the problem. Thank you. I am working on figuring out how to prevent AVG from taking those files now.
  11. Thanks. Sadly I've tried that but no luck. When the install finishes I get another error about trying to run that same file (the one that isn't actually there). Looks like some sort of license file? Then the game won't run.
  12. Hi, Sorry if I'm on the wrong forum - pls point me to the right place. I'm trying to install and get this error: "C:\Program Files (x86)\Battlefront\Strategic Command WWII Global Conflict\eLicPatch.exe An error occurred while trying to read the source file: Access is denied. Click Retry to try again, Ignore to skip this file (not recommended), or Abort to cancel installation." I checked and this file eLicPatch.exe doesn't exist in that directory. I've also tried installing the game to another directory but get a similar error. Anyone know how to fix this? Thanks
  13. Hi, I already own WW2: GC but stopped playing it long ago due to a dislike of the very random research system. However now I noticed that WW1:TGW is out and I've started to wonder if maybe the research problem has been patched or modded away. I see that there is a new WW2 scenario for WW1:TGW. So if my main interest is WW2, not WW1 - which is the right game to be playing: WW1: TGW or WW2: GC? Thanks
  14. FYI - I found out another tidbit in the game where China is getting crushed. The Japanese player got an early (turn 4) hit on Infantry Tech. This was a major boost for the Japanese. I guess it's not always likely that will happen. In the same game Soviets have had infantry tech chits at 1 or 2 all game long and still don't have a tech hit. Germans are at 3 infantry tech. It's quite a crap shoot and a really important tech for some countries. Also as for Russia you wrote: "Still testing out the balance there. I am considering making a physical rail so the AI can rail back those units. Not sure what to do about Siberian transfer. To give siberian transfer I have to split Russia" I don't think you need any Siberian transfer. The Soviets start w/ some units in Siberia and can decide when or if to transfer them to Europe. Aside from things being thrown way out of whack if Germany or Soviets gets a big lead in IW tech - I think the Soviet MPP production seems to be quite concentrated in European Russia. I'm not sure how industry transfer is scripted but it seems like some more Soviet MPP generation in the Urals might be needed if Soviets are going to be able to trade land for time. Red Army seems small as well but maybe I'll feel differently about that once war starts and the extra depleted units come in.
  15. "Spend less, give land for time. I'll ask this question... is your partner a better player than you if so by a lot or a little? That makes a difference. But yes there are things that can be done to improve situations. I know of one already I will implement in the next batch. Anyone else finding the same results in China?" I'm not sure whether he's a better tactical player but I'll say China is not a theatre that allows a lot of tactics. Movement is very limited, Chinese just place their units in the way of the Japanese in the best terrain possible. China gave up a few cities in the north for free or cheap due to the Japanese closing on Chungking in the south. But really everywhere the Japanese go is cheap. Seeing a single Japanese infantry strength point lost feels like a victory for China. I don't know if it's possible to spend less w/o just abandoning central China. If you retreated to Urumchi you could spend less. I'm glad to hear you're headed into a PVP game. Hopefully your Japanese player pushes China. Taking away Japanese experience might help. China doesn't feel like a quagmire for Japan at all currently. Japanese losses are very light, Chinese losses are very heavy, and the Japanese just steadily roll over China. As for CW - thanks for the numbers. I'll have another look. I currently have 3 ground units in India and there is a lot to defend w/ the japanese likely to be headed overland from China as well as invading by Sea. S. Africa in particular seems light. I know they had troops deployed to Egypt but in the game I'd be loathe to send the single S. African unit anywhere as that invites conquest of S. Africa.
  16. China seems somewhat out of whack in the mod. I'm in a pvp game Oct 1940. The Japanese player added some infantry tech to his unit (I think Inf Tech 1), landed the 2 Japanese marines in the south, built his units up to strength 10, and went on the offensive. The U.S. has spent every single MPP in China to rebuild losses, and has only bought 1 research chit for itself - no other U.S. MPP's spent on anything other than China. Chungking has fallen just from a meatgrinder Japanese assault that has Japan taking very few losses and the U.S. MPP pool drained just to try to keep the Chinese units up to 8 or 10 strength. U.S. entry is at about 55. U.S. income is not even enough to rebuild all Chinese units to full strength each turn. It also looks like Chinese cities captured by Japan are going higher than level 5 - i.e. 6+. Is this right? Is there anything that can be done to help out the Chinese situation to make it a little more historical? Namely: Make it harder for Japan to conquer them, and prevent China from completely draining all U.S. MPP's prior to war? I'm not sure the U.S. entry hit for Chinese cities taken is working correctly. I think I've seen the message that U.S. is alarmed 2 or 3 times - but not for every city taken. I'm also not sure the MPP situation is working correctly - my understanding was that U.S. MPP's would be +5 for each Chinese city that falls? I don't think this is happening but not sure. Maybe Japanese army is just too strong? Or there should be some other hit against Japan for Chinese cities taken? Or maybe some entrenchments for China? Maybe U.S. production goes up drastically as Chinese cities fall to help offset the cost of paying for the war? Not sure really what would work. Another problem seems to be that the CW minors that are supposed to be treated like major power units in terms of tech upgrades don't seem to be working correctly. For example India can tech up but Australia can't tech up their units. This makes me wonder whether the rules are correctly working to prevent the minor power tech disadvantages from applying to India and Australia and S. Africa? Another thing that I've noticed is that the CW countries have very small force pools. India I think can build 1 army and some air units? S. Africa can build nothing (?) Australia might be able to build a corp or something - but not much. Is this right? It seems tough to reinforce the middle east when the commonwealth countries can't build land units to defend themselves and to send to Mideast. With China so easy to take out for Japan, and the Commonwealth force pools so very small - once the Japanese army is released from China it will be easy to overrun Siberia, India, Australia, S. Africa, and the Mideast for Japan. Their land force pool is just huge compared to India's 2 or 3 units for example. There's no way to defend against it.
  17. Hi - when do you expect to put out a new version with changes? FYI - I mean for the pvp version Thx
  18. The USSR seems short on land units. The notes say that some armies will arrive later when they are at war w/ Germany and not to overbuild armies. How many armies will arrive later, and thus how many can be safely built? I'd consider raising the # of corps that USSR can build? They hardly have enough to garrison Turkish border, front 2 rows of cities, and send another corp or 2 to face Finland I think? Also did you answer the question about garrison cities if USSR doesn't get east Poland or Bessarabia? I thought you might have said something about it when you wrote "I corrected that. No they dont. Thanks for finding that error. ", but I wasn't sure? Scenario is really interesting. Thanks.
  19. Hi, If the German refuses to give USSR any of Poland, can the USSR still fulfill the garrison requirement of the cities Lvov and Brest-Litovsk in some other way? Does the hex needed to garrison move somewhere else? Thanks
  20. So just so I understand - there is no way to get the new scenarios/updates until the repository goes back up - right?
  21. I downloaded and have some comments. 1) Wow - that map is amazing. That is what I'd hoped and expected the base map for SC2GC would look like. Fantastic job Nup!! 2) I have a reasonably fast PC - dual core 2.53, 8 gb RAM. The scrolling itself on the map is soooooo slow. It looks like the base SC2GC game engine just can't really handle this many hexes(squares) very well. So my suggestion is a v2 of this map that removes lots of areas that normally aren't played over. For example US other than coast, Canada other than coast, S. America entirely, mid of S. Africa, North half of Siberia: these could be removed from the map to speed up the game. Also it might be possible to remove slices of the Pacific. In general there wasn't much naval combat afaik in remote reaches of the pacific - the combat was centered around naval/air bases and shipping routes. I'm suggesting something similar to what Brute Force map does- i.e. remove areas that don't get much play to speed it up. 3) Adding communist china is a great job. 4) I wonder if it would be even playable with AI so I'd suggest focus on improvements for PBEM. I think it would be so slow to wait for AI that it wouldn't get played against AI. PBEM seems a better option to me. This mod really blows me away overall but to make it actually playable for the SC2 community I think measures must be taken to speed it up by removing parts of the map. Then it will be playable and played by the community at large. Again- FANTASTIC job on this - wow.
  22. Hi, I got a PBEM file for first turn and got a message when I loaded it that said something like "original campaign file can't be found Advanced Third Reich 1939". I have downloaded and played the campaign against the AI so any idea why I'd get this sort of error against a human opponent? Thx for any tips.
