  1. Whilst I follow your comment here in general, surely that does not apply re the SdKfz 233 as the vehicle it should look like ( the SdKfz 234/2 ) is also in the game ( CMBB/CM2 ), and could have been taken from that game for CMAK/CM3... IMHO it was just a numerical "cock up" ! [ What do you mean 'there are others' ! Drat ! ]
  2. CM2 and CM3 The SdKfz 233 uses an incorrect SdKfz 232 "Model" [ The vehicle should look more like the SdKfz 234/3 ( with a wider barreled gun and open top turret ). ] CM3 only The Churchill I should have a long barreled gun in the hull ( front right ), as well as the usual shorter barreled gun in the turret. How did these get missed ? NB : The stats etc. for each of the above are correct, it's just the visible "model" that's wrong.
  3. Well, I finally got around to installing CMBO on my laptop and it appears to work fine ! [ My video card's dedicated memory is apparently 128MB, but the game I had installed first ( Shogun Total War ) only read 8MB... ] NB : Tests ( via a USB ) also show that CMBB and CMAK work OK too. I will be installing them soon.
  4. Whilst it is indeed an option, it is not one I am likely to take up. [ What's with the " Deb does Dallas" moniker ? If I were a girl ( DEB = my initials ), I might well find that offensive... ]
  5. Unfortunately, I am unable to adjust any settings via the BIOS, as this function has been left off on my laptop... I have also not been able to trace ( to date ), how this may ( or may not ), be able to be done via the Video card settings themselves. I will review this though with the information you have provided. Thanks for that. I have previously tried adjustments via the compatibility settings, but only re the game ( not a CM1 series one ), that is currently on my laptop. They did not work with that game, but it is possible they may work re a CM1 series one. If I have any problems with any CM1 series one I will re-look at that. It is still quite possible that I will not have a problem at all with the CM1 series. It all depends on what figure was actually input at the games manufacture re Video Memory ( initial or actual )...
  6. Thanks for those comments. Re certainty re 8 MB dedicated memory - no... See below :- I have installed a game onto my Laptop. It operates ( according to specifications ), on a minimum of 4 MB dedicated video memory, but 16MB is recommended. An early error at the install stage caused a error report, which listed the dedicated video memory applicable as 8 MB. After the addition of a Flash "video player""(!), the game started up correctly. However, the game's graphics have a minor problem with about 30% of the tree coverage and 80% + re dead bodies. As I understand it, this was a known problem re the games graphics, if the dedicated video memory available was less than the recommended figure ! My video card is an Intel integrated HD graphics card, which when combined with the O/S 's 4 GB of RAM, operates in much the same manner as you describe. However, it reads a games dedicated video memory requirement as input ( sometimes incorrectly ), by the games manufacturer. Some manufacturers apparently input the Initial video memory, rather than the actual video memory requirement that Intel now use with their integrated video cards... I presume from the error report that 8 MB was set for the game now on my laptop. It is possible, that if the actual video memory of the CM1 series was set higher than 8 MB, that my graphics card would note that higher figure and work correctly. It would also appear that any that are 8 MB ( or less ) may work correctly too ; hence my query. I am fairly hopeful re CMBO, but not so much re CMBB / CMAK.
  7. Seasons greetings ! I have all 3 of the CM1 series of games installed on a Vista O/S Desktop PC. I would like to install them all on a Windows 7 O/S Laptop. My understanding is that they should all work on a Windows 7 O/S ; but I have a problem, in that my Laptop is currently limited to an 8 MB Dedicated Video memory ! Can you please advise the Dedicated Video Memory required for each of the 3 CM1 series of games. Many thanks.
  8. Strangely, the rules ( CM2 : under Appendix B - Orders, Special orders , Hide/Unhide ) say that this represents ( the vehicle ) keeping it's engine idle ( and does NOT represent the crew hiding inside the tank) ! I guess a quieter Tank is harder to spot if in ( say ) a Wood !! [ It also notes that trying to hide a Tiger Tank in an open field is not a good idea ! }
  9. Thanks for that information. This appears to be good news for me as my games were CDV ones, that I had purchased via a local games store. [ NB : If anyone can confirm Schrullenhaft's information re CDV versions of the games, I would be most grateful ].
  10. I recall that some years ago, I was advised ( by a Games Company staff member ), that games could only be installed on 3 ( or 4 ) different PC's ( maximum ), due to a limit set into the game / disk ! However, I cannot now recall which Games / Games Company this applied / applies to... Can any one advise if this limit applies to the Combat Mission Games ( specifically to CMBO and CMBB ). Thanks. [ NB : To date, each game has been installed on two different PC's. ]
  11. And Battlefront said a patch was not going to happen!!
  12. Not true! I have Vista HP with DX10 & all three CMx1 games. CM3 runs fine & CM2 looks OK. Graphics = Intel ® G45/G43 Express. Guess I may be lucky!! Hope so..
  13. Me neither. I have 22 games; 6 Ancients, Shogun Total War ( Warlord ), The French & Indian War, Age of Sail, 5 Napoleonics, 2 ACW, Diplomacy & 5 WW2 ( including CM1 & CM2 ). Jack of all, master of several ( especially Shogun ). I fail to see how you deduce that from the comments made on this Thread. But a "licence" whould surely specify what can be done and not done with that access, and is legally binding. Other people make other calls. Whilst Battlefront should know what's best for them, they can be wrong. Maybe no-one is interested in "licencing it from them, who knows? See also Redwolf's interesting surmise elsewhere... Methinks you jest. It's up to Battlefront ( or NVidia ) to patch.
  14. Now that's a shame. I can't do it myself because I don't have a Vista OS yet, let alone a NVidia driver. Those who do have should report it ( now they know ( or should do by now ) where to. Now that's a thought....
  15. Look at it another way. Why should NVidia change the operation of their drivers to suit Battlefront/ Battlefronts customers? All we are saying is that it is up to Battlefront to patch their games accordingly ( with NVidia help if required ) OR get NVidia to do it for them; IF they still expect to sell these games to anyone who does not currently have them ( who, by the way, is also likely to have a new Vista system ). It just means Battlefront & NVidea need to communicate with each other re the problem, preferably before Battlefront start anything. Not every-one here is as knowledgable as you with regard to such things. However, no-one should NEED to buy a further OS ( of any kind ). ( If I buy anything else it will have XP & Vista ( if possible then ), so I can use either as req'd. ) Generally speaking Battlefront should upgrade it OR licence it to someone who will.
  16. Several scenarios are referred too as "large" & even "huge". It's based on the points value used for the units & vehicles I believe. Also some scenario maps are much larger than others in area and therefore use up more graphics, especially if they have many buildings. Not sure if selling the "code" is included in my premise, but games are "passed on" to other companies under licence, who have upgraded them. I presume the licence limits what the new company can do with what they have. Sold Out is still in business, and it ONLY does games that have stopped being sold by the original company. Tell that to HPS. Also, Shogun Total War ( Warlord edition ) has been released by Sold Out with a Vista upgrade. It may not be as difficult as you / Battlefront think. If you don't like WW2, why visit/comment? Smug & absurd. If I could do it, I would. Irrevelant to the point under discussion.
  17. Whilst I understand the logic behind Redwolf's reply, I disagree with the resultant answer given. CM2 for example, has a long list of known driver / card problems listed ( in/on the manual ). This did not stop them from marketing it as compatible with several OS. As the problem with VISTA appears to be much the same, ( if I understand Redwolf correctly ), why have the SPECS for CM2, ( and I presume CM1/3 ), not been updated ( as at 1/9/2008 ) to include Vista as part of the OS? I suspect it's that they have tested CM1/2/3 on all the OS quoted, but have not tested Vista, so they are unable to legally include it. If they can test CM1/2/3 for 2000, ME & XP ( including some ( at least CM1 )AFTER the original testing ), and update the SPECS; why not test for Vista ( or future OS ). With people now buying OS based on VISTA, why would anyone buy a CMx1 game now? Whilst some games out there do not require any upgrade re VISTA, and those that do generally require minor changes or patches from various non game company area's; that does not preclude companies providing CLEAR links to these patches / information OR making minor adjustments themselves where required. Unfortunatly Battlefront are not alone in this poor customer service. Incidently, whilst researching this, I note that my copy of CM2 lists CPU as 233MHz or higher. My PC is 400MHz, hence I purchased it. Later, I was a tad miffed to find that the larger Scenarios ( lots of buildings / units ) tend to freeze up, some at the instant they are opened. As as 1/9/2008 the minimum specs listed ( on this website ) are now a CPU of 500MHz! That's mis-selling to me, even if it was an honest mistake.
  18. As Vista was not on the market when these games were produced, the comment by Redwolf is absurd. As I recall, when Combat Mission:Beyond Overlord first came out, the Windows XP system had not been produced, but this WAS updated to include it on the OS, so it CAN be done, IF Battlefront choose to do so. What is needed, is for Battlefront to sell the rights to CM1/2/3, to, say, "Sold OUT". They will then update it for VISTA and sell it at £4.99 ( UK ) a time! If they don't plan to update these games or do anything with them, then they should sell the rights to them. I would suggust that people visit HPS Simulations Website and try their games. They have updated them all to Vista ( and are likely to update again re any new OS ).
  19. If it is and the information on the box ( not IN the game ) does not specify this then I would suggust buying one and sueing them via the Office of Fair Trading ( or their US equivilant).
  20. The best option is to provide some customer service and patch it. Then they can sell even more games to those with NEW Vista PC's. Maybe "SOLD OUT" will buy the rights and update it as they did with Shogun Total War ( Warlord Edition ) Windows 98 to Windows XP to Windows Vista. If it's a viable option to them to sell at £4.99 a time, why is it not to Battlefront at what they still charge? Battlefront are just lazy.
  21. Re: Redwolf. Just ignore him. He's a wind up merchant.
  22. Most people who have a PC which matches the system requirements for these games proberly bought it a long time ago. Any new buyers will undoubtedly get new VIsta PC's ( although if you ASK for it I believe you can still get XP systems ). Still selling something that is unlikely to be bought strikes me as odd. I think they still have stock left that was over produced, otherwise it would be discontinued by now. Moon ( the Administrator ) is, it appears, the President ( El Presidante as he likes to call himself ) of this Website / Company no less. Try not to upset him!!
  23. If it's NVIDIA's fault, why not take it up with them yourself? Surely you have more "clout" than WE do? Perhaps you KNOW that they will tell you to patch it!!
  24. There's every chance that NVIDIA will take a stance similar to Battlefronts and do nothing OR make sure that you will need to purchase a new Card. Anything that costs must be paid for and you can be sure WE will pay.
