  1. You're putting too much faith in ex-military man-cum-politician. They'd be first and foremost politicians. </font>
  2. Well, we all hope that good leaders and officers will stay in the Army and eventually replace the politcians...but I doubt that will happen to any real extent. Anyways, the emphasis on smaller and self-contained units (Brigade Combat Teams) has helped a lot, and hopefully with the future expanse of the Army, this doctrine will continue to serve in a meaningful capacity.
  3. Hey, I liked all the content that game with BO, also, but as an amateur 3d modeller and texturer, I can't fathom the possibility of profitting on a business model that produces too much without a gain to match. I also have no problem whatsoever with supporting a developer that produces games I enjoy.
  4. I'm not aware of any major problems with ICOMs, especially not as of now. Back in the day, Circa 2004-05 and a little after, many soldiers opted to purchase their own vest-mounted "walkie-talkies" and what-not. As things stand now, infantrymen and special operations forces *generally* don't have this problem anymore.
  5. Light, mech, and motorized. I know what you are saying, I'm just saying that it isn't called the Gavin and never was. I thought it was pretty stupid to take the Sheridans from the 82nd and not replace them with something, like the M8. I always thought that light infantry, no matter how deployed, was pretty useless on the modern battlefield because we just couldn't manuever. I was a big fan of the Army getting a simple, reliable, armored vehicle to give the light divisions but they never took my advice. Basically we agree that they need something to make the light/airborne units a little more useful. </font>

  7. I'm not sure. I have only heard it being called "gavin" by an older 1SG while BSing with us on a field ex. One thing is for sure, whenever someone says Gavin, everybody knows they're talking about the M-113, and it has achieved that nickname informally. My question is, what does it matter if it's some official nickname or not? The last part of your quote leads to the question of which is better, Stryker or M113? I have no first-hand experience with either.
  8. So because you never heard it from anyone other than some moron it didn't exist. Doesn't detract from what I was saying about having it replaced. I take it you've never been around an Airborne unit then.
  9. They were called Gavins after General Gavin, who was a commander of the 82nd Airborne during WW2; he played a role in it's development and it was used as a heavy droppable APC/IFV for Airborne infantry. Since it was dropped, it hasn't been replaced. My post was just a random one begging the Army to give us something to fulfill that role.
  10. Not only that, but it would be great if the Army actually replaced the Gavins for us paratroopers.
  11. I want to second the comment made about the sounds. Sometimes when I have multiple fire missions and airstrikes, I find myself continually checking the air support section because I can't tell if the incoming is arty or air assets. It would just help is all.
  12. That's fair enough, but even in 2004 we were using scrap metal welded onto the turret swivel. Apart from the armor, there is no way to use an infantry force in-game in conjunction with humvees. If using an empty vehicle, you can mount..say an HQ team, but cannot dismount them as they become the crew (if you can, I don't know how). Besides all that is the strict reliance on TO&E instead of the older method of customizing your force based on TO&E.
  13. I don't see how a game engine can somehow reduce the amount of time it takes to make a 3D model, UV map it, then make the textures.
  14. What I would like to see are humvees with armor plating around the gunners. At present, I can come up with no practical reason for using humvees. My intentions with this game were to re-create some of my personal experiences, but it's just plain impossible with the clumsy way humvees are handled in-game. Oh well.
