  1. Sounds interesting. I have googled earth much of Syria, and read alot of its Defence, and offensive capabilites. It is known that Irregular forces would delay Allied-Nato forces so that scenario is plausible. I myself am working on huge city scenerio. So far Im about 50% done. Adding the fluff takes forever. Juergen
  2. How do you make balconies? I keep do the click fest to the outside of the buidlings but I cant seem to figure out how to get balconies to appear. Any info much apreciated. Veronica
  3. good to know. I will have to work more on the elevation stuff. I pretty much just finnished a large city. Trying to do a Black Hawk down scenario. Lots more of filler stuff to put in however.
  4. I agree with Chops. Any Editor we should be able to edit names, Status and such. The editor in CMx1 was great. What happend to Water.. there is no water, and making hills and elevation changes is a pain.
  5. Yes my girlfriend took charge of my game, while I was cooking dinner. She is new of course. Anyways about this thread. It is true that the M1 in this game sucks. The hit percentage with the M1A2 is lacking. I count about a 60% hit rate. I was thinking it should be more around 78% to 80%. The Syrians hit just about everytime, and are lethal with RPG and their AT-4's, while the Javelin sometimes take 2 to destroy a T-55 or T-66. I know the Gentlemen at Battlefront do not want this game to be a walkover for US or Allied forces, but when dealing with heavy armor, the US has a major advantage, Rate of fire, Optics, gun platforms, Armor etc. Im not seeing this at all. Too many M1A2 are being brewed up from either frontal hits, or being taken out by weapon systems that really would not impact the Abrams from over 800meters. I have researched the Abrams alot lately, and came to the conclusion; Either the Defence department is lying about its armor, and weapons systems, and the boys in Iraq have been very lucky to loose only a few. http://www.globalsecurity.org/military/systems/ground/m1a2.htm And this site from Wikepedia shows why Abrams have been lost. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/M1_Abrams Most of them were destroyed by DU rounds, which means another Abrams shot it with its main gun. Nearly all sources claim that no Abrams tank has ever been destroyed as a result of fire from an enemy tank, but some have certainly taken some damage which required extensive repair. There is at least one account, reported in the following Gulf War's US Official Assessment (scan), of an Abrams being damaged by three kinetic energy piercing rounds. The DoD report indicates that witnesses in the field claimed it was hit by a T-72 Asad Babil. The KE rounds were unable to fully penetrate and stuck in the armor, but because of the external damage it was sent to a maintenance depot. This is the only verified case of an M1A1 put out of action by an Iraqi MBT.[4] Presumably the impacts set the storage boxes on fire. The tests at the impact point indicate the sabot shells were conventional, since no radiological trace was found there. Other six M1As were allegedly hit by 125 mm tank fire in the Gulf war official report, but the impacts were largely ineffectual.[5] M1A1 lost to friendly fire during Operation Desert Storm in 1991.On the night of February 26, 1991, four Abrams were disabled in a suspected friendly fire incident by Hellfire missiles fired from AH-64 Apache attack helicopters, with the result of some crew members WIA.[6] The tanks were part of TF 1-37,[7] attacking a large section of Tawakalna Republican Guard Division, their numbers being B-23, C-12, D-24 and C-66. However, C-12 was definitively hit and penetrated by a friendly DU shot[8] and there is some evidence that another Iraqi T-72 may have scored a single hit on B-23, besides the alleged Hellfire strike (see Iraqi T-72 article). Tanks D-24 and C-66 took some casualties as well[9] Only B-23 became a permanent loss. The DoD's damage assessments state that B-23 was the only M1 with signs of a Hellfire missile found nearby.[10] Also during Operation Desert Storm, three Abrams of the 24 ID were left behind the enemy lines after a swift attack on Talil airfield, south of Nasiriyah, on February 27. One of them was hit by enemy fire, the two other embedded in mud. The tanks were destroyed by US forces in order to prevent any trophy-claim by the Iraqi Army.[11] The above is a partial article from Wikepedia. It is also strange that Iraq being the 4th largest Army at one time did not have any ATGM for their tanks, however Syria is loaded with them. happy hunting, Juergen
  6. Yes please bring this back Battlefront! We miss it. It is a great feature, also for some people that are new to this game, it would be nice if you had Unit Detail when you hit the Enter key. Weapon names, ranges and armor detail would be nice. This is much missed. Juergen
  7. I defenitely love CMSF, however I hope in new versions that there will be unit data added, like there was in CMBFx1. You could click on any unit, and hit the ENTER button and it would display effective infantry ranges and weapons deployed by the unit. AFV would show armor ratings and weapon information. I dislike having to refer to the manual everytime I want to look up effective ranges for my weapons. It was also nice how CMx1 also kept track of kills. I thinks that it brought flavor to the game, especialy at the end you could see how much a particular squad inflicted damage to the enemy, or an AFV had done. Cheers to the CMSF team. Juergen
  8. Well I think in Version 1.04 they may need to possibly re-vamp their armor ratings. If a T-62 can kill and Abrams through frontal armor at 1100m there are problems. Juergen
  9. It was not a minor penetration, the Abrams was completely on fire, and the crew actually stayed in the tank... I guess maybe the crew compartment was ok, and everything else was destroyed. Thats what I thought was soo weird... front hit by a T-55 or T-62... it brews up from what... all the fuel is in the back? I replayed it at least 5 times.. no missle hit.. and the nearest tank was 1150meters away. Thats still good range for a 100mm gun, but I thought the modeleing for the Abrams should withstand that at least, especialy an uparmored version. Anyways I was sort of disturbed, if it is that easy to kill Abrams in game, and in RL they are very hard to kill. I did some resarch via Wikepedia, and all were disabled by ATGM usually RPG-7 to the tracks, only one was hit from behind and it brewed up... the personell were all A OK and that tank was later destroyed by fire from antother Abrams.
  10. I have been reading alot of the threads lately, alot of really good posts out there. I thinks some people are having problems coping with modern warfare vs CMBx1. In CMBx1 battles were fought with accuaracy from about 500-1000m. The anti tank weapons were fairly accurate, but took many hits sometimes, and the range was poor maybe 50-100m. Anti tank rifles were usually only effective against APC and other armored cars. Modern combat things are really fast so you have to think alot more. Any deffilade could be an enemy position, its almost imposible to see trenches unless you scan the entire map (Airial Recon) The enemy could be anywhere and can kill you from long distances, over 2000m easy. Some ATGM have ranges of up to 6000m and are effective against the heaviest of Armor. So some maybe having issues adapting to lots of firepower and range issues. Urban warfare is about the same, the weapons are more accuarate and deadly but if you dont follow some golden rules in which people like "The_Capt" have showed you, you will be cut down with no problem. Some things I have learned in playing this vs CMBx1 is suppression! Buildings need to be suppressed if your moving troops up, suppress all buildings if you can, or at least the obvious ones that could pose a threat. You usually have a few vehicles, so I use light Target and possibly keep the enemy down if they are there. Deffilades, and crests of hills are ideal for the enemy with ATGM. Anyways not to go off here, but I have seen posts where people are really frustrated with modern combat. Combat is now, fast, furious, and very unforgiving. If you make a bad move, dont plan ahead, or do not use suppressing fire, or suppressing artillery either from ground or air assets you will have a lot of casualties. Go in and lay waste... we can always rebuild.. hell we have rebuilt pretty much every nation we have attacked. Semper fi Juergen
  11. True, I did not see any flight path from any ATGM, I re-played it about 5 times at different angles. From over 1100m that is one heck of a lucky kill. It completely brewed up the Abrams, crew survived. I can see that from a 120mm at that range, but not really from a old T-55 even with unique rounds. But hey I was a grunt not a tanker. Anyways I have been alot more carefull with my armor, even though Im a little erked! that the Abrams front armor is not what the Army advertises. I can see a flank shot brewing up fuel and stuff, but if any of you have played CMx1 you know to never expose your flanks. Semper Fi Juergen And the next time my girlfriend blows up my tanks...she is getting a spanking.
  12. Well Im not sure how they have modeled the Abrams for the game.. Im sure they dont want to make it nearly invincible.. but taking a round from 1200m with a 100mm gun and destroying the frontal armor was just a tad unrealistic for me.. T-55 please! The Abrams of course has no problems laying waste to anything. Sort of reminds me of Terminator.. where the poor infantry are running for their live from these massive armored vehicles. Of course even they were brought down. Cheers
  13. Same here... cant get past 2160m X 2160M And having more than 4kilometers... is huge... even my PC would have issues:P
  14. Well know I have V.103 and have used the Sryker MSG or the Abrams to punch holes in walls, however they do not carry much ammo, so I try and use them sparingly. I wish they had demo kits inside the stryker to aquire. Maybe they do, if not it would be nice if at least 1 vehicle in a stryker platoon carried breaching charges. Im going to set up a test and try and find some grunts with breaching charges.. and assault through the breach to a building. hopefully with V.103 they will go through the breach...and not go all the way around the bloody wall in search for a walk around.
  15. Thanks for the info, I will have to check it out. So far in the campaign, I have not seen Breaching charges, however im only on the 3rd mission.
  16. Say I did a search on Breaching walls, the posts were very informative. However it sounds like only big guns can breach walls. Is there a special troop type that is capable of breaching walls like engineers. I tried having my troops fire at the wall when they had an AT4 or Javalin... they just shot at it with small arms. So my question is ... Is there a way to breach walls in V.103 with troops? Thanks for any assistance. Juergen
  17. Well Juergen completed last night.. after he took control of the Control Tower.. which was easy. (get there real fast) He targeted the enemy with his FO and called down anti-personell artillery. When 2nd platoon showed up.. they reinforced 1st platoon, I think at this time the only casualties came from RPG fire. 1 Stryker gun platform totaly destroyed, and another stryker KO, and abandoned. 3rd Platoon, showed up, and in a couple of fire fights and assaults took the Airbase HQ and two building to the left, 1 casualty. 3rd platoon was supported also by the 3rd stryker gun platform, which took out an IED truck... HUGE explosion that took out some of there own troops. 1st Platoon reinforced by 2nd platoon took the Special forces HQ with no casualties. There were not many of them left. The next 6 minutes JTAC called in the apaches and laid waste to the barracks area. 3rd platoon assaulted one more building with no casualties. 1st platoon had command of the Air Traffic control Tower, and the Special forces building. 2nd Platoon -1 squad (which was mopping up the tarmac area) was held back ready to assualt the barracks. After all rounds from the 120mm mortar were exhausted, they moved in and took the barracks. Total losses were 1 KIA, 5 WIA, 2 AFV lost, in which one could be repaired. The enemy... completly destroyed. All Juergen and I need know is a bigger monitor... like a 32inch.
  18. Thanks Thelmia for that post, that was very informative. I was always curious as to why, if the enemy had such weapons, why do they not use them. Anyways one has to plot out ones advances, and try not to give the enemy a flank or rear shot. It appears that would be difficult with Acyemetrical warfare. Veronica
  19. Thanks Mishga! While Im doing my nails tonight.. I will tell Juergen that Im sorry for getting his tanks blown to hell! Off subject sort of.. Im soo curious as to why the US has not had that many tanks destroyed. many had tracks blown and such.. (went to Wikepedia) but only one was completely destroyed, and I think I remember that was fron another Abrams because the other tank was soo badly damaged. I guess if we ever went to war with Syria, we would bomb them alot first. I think I looked up again the Syrian Army (Wikepedia) and they only have soo many ATGM rounds available. I wonder if BF develepers have taken that into account while designing missions.
  20. Well I was watching my BF play that one... He is not done yet.. "Juergen get in here and respond!" He started out with 1st platoon racing towards the Airfield. Secured the Tower and the building sort of behind the tower(near map exit) he stormed in with the sniper team, (extra ammo) and a full squad with Javilins, also the Spotter person went in the tower as well... he popped smoke all over the place and assaulted the tower and the other building. He brought 2 of the 120mm cannon strykers for support. As soon as he was in the tower... called in morter rounds... anti-personell on alot of bad guys. 2nd Platoon came to assist 1st platoon... with the exception od some support peeps! 3rd platoon arrives and is accross the street.. taking the backway to the Airbase HQ.. lost 1 stryker He has the Airbase fully under control.. at least the huge clearing area, javilins have decimated where the Syrians have run for cover.. every vehicle attempting to move in..has been anhilated. 2nd platoon is close to the SP Forces barracks... 1st platton is re-equiping... there have been few casualties... He uses a leapfrog sort of technique... deploying smoke.. and cover fire. Also some more artillery would be helpfull.. or a nice Apache! Well if he gets a total Victory... I have a Victoria Secret suprise waiting for him.. Veronica!
  21. Ok so I just did some Surfing here at work... oops I mean on my break. The BMP series AT-7 to AT-10 can penetrate up ot 600-660mm of armor... ummmm thats alot of penetration power! So basicaly are all my tanks...hehe or my BF's tanks going to explode if I play with them??? I thought the Abrams had sweet armor, like the British that could stop just about anything? Maybe Im dreaming... V
  22. Ahhh I knew It.... Those sneaky SOB's... I need to get some Data on the ATGM from the barrels of T-62's and T-55's. Did the Iraqis have the same stuff? If the armor of the Abrams is suppose to be soo good, why is it soo easy in the game to defeat them? Anyways..I understand the whole range thing, but I was told.. that the Abrams could withstand just about anything. Again this battle took place from a distance of over 1000m to 1250m. I sort of blew up my Boyfriends tanks.. he saved the game.. and I sort of took over. Thanks Veronica!
  23. Not sure if anyone else has had unrealistic results in Tank vs Tank engagements. Ok I realize the Abrams is not God on tracks but I have heard they can take point black shots from 100mm guns practicaly as well as from ATGM. I was about 1200 meters from 3 T-55 or T-62's and the Abrams got 2 befor a 100mm shell penetrated the Abrams frontal armor, and Blew up... the only cool part the crew was inside and OK.. Im not saying I will never loose an Abrams, maybe in Close Quarters street fighting, but I did not expect it to happen from over 1000 meters from an inferior gun platform.
  24. I remember in CMX1 APC's or lightly skinned vehicles would try and retreat if up against superior vehicles. Also tanks would also retreat if they were broken or routed. I have not got my copy of the game yet, Veronica and I are still anxiously waiting. Im no computer expert... not even close but Im a Miltary person thru and thru. It sounds like when a APC is in contact with a MBT or serious threat, it does nothing until commanded. (Which I totaly understand, its a game)However maybe it should automaticaly re-act instinctivly when it realizes or is in LOS with a threat. Then the APC I agree would fire at the threat. (there is no way you dont know it has not seen you. If you can see it, it can possibly see you!) Except if not equiped with NV or Thermal. If I was in the APC I would blaze at it with the 12.7mm hoping I did damage to optics or the Commander, or anyone not buttoned up. If I had TOW I would then fire that, and back the hell out of the way, behind building or something. I know in CMx1 they would retreat and pop smoke at the same time. The modern battlefield usually popping smoke not only will cover your movement (its alot of smoke I think 3000 cubic feet not sure) but will also dispense a chaff like substance to defeat lazing so they can not laze you thru the smoke while you retreat out of harms way. I think this is what our author would like to see, but not sure how you computer wizards would patch that into the game. Semper FI from Veronica and Juergen! 25. Ahh which brings up a good point Mr. Battlefront Admin. how would the Stryker fair in say Korea or China, or even Eastern Europe in Wet or monsoon seasons. V
