  1. Ironically it seems when it comes to military films on any subject, someone will always say that is unrealistic, untrue, one sided, yada yada yada. Everyone has a "I was there or know someone who was there" story. Lets face it if military films were realistic it would be about Marines repairing humvees, standing around BS'ing, and standing hours of watch. If you can't compress a great story into film and make it interesting for everyone who would view, you would not have a successful movie. I would disagree that there were any untruths or exaggerations in Hurt Locker having read Eight Lives Down, they matched up quite well. And Hurt Locker wasn't a true story, just adapted obviously from soldiers accounts. I suppose what matters is the soul of the film, and Hurt Locker showed an amazing soul that didn't feel contrived.
  2. Can we get a new reference. Space Lobster jokes are getting old. Kinda like the midget hooker who stands at the end of my street every day. Funny the first few times I saw her, now not so much. Also last time I checked active camouflage is a reality and is right around the corner so that doesn't really work with your joke.
  3. Should have been called MW3: Stand by to stand by I think playing that would give me flashbacks of my younger years. I don't think I am really ready to face that again. Too much to handle.
  4. All this talk of books and movies made me remember my favorite war film in years. It kind of slipped under the radar. Hurt Locker was one of the most realistic and engaging films I have seen in years. Most likely the definitive movie about the Iraq war. I think the IED symbolizes the insurgency well and a movie about a bomb disposal unit was very appropriate. Read Eight Lives Down about British EOD(I swear Hurt Lockers characters were pulled from this book and turned into US soldiers for the movie). Also I really enjoyed Night Stalkers (Michael Durant of BHD fame), and also Roughneck Nine-One. I could go on being a huge modern military historian, but those three are my favorites that I read this year.
  5. Interestingly enough when I came on and said the same thing about watching that, a member came on and told me the book and show are filled with falsehoods. I really enjoyed the show and it got me to read both the book and since then many other accounts of the Iraq war like, Not a Good Day to Die, Shooter, We Were One , and Highway to Hell. Great retelling of the actual events. No one will really know except the men there, so no need debating it. Non-fiction or fiction, or maybe a bit of both, it still is a great story.
  6. Sure wish I had the mapping capabilities of Google Earth. As stated before. This is a scaled down version.
  7. 1) Dunno but they show up at the start of +5 for me. Must be a logistical error on behalf of the military. Looks like some admin guy was getting creative with his math. 2)BF Alpha is East. Those should be those troops jumping out of Chinooks. Sure wish we had an animation for than. 3) I swear I fixed that! 4)Yes....feel free to label them. Honestly the Whale is the center of the map. Somewhere in the center is a cave. Go find it. It's what you get paid to do. You figure out what looks like the most optimal route of success. Don't get killed. Come on, those air force geeks pouring over maps cant give you all the intel! Hope you enjoyed!
  8. **Spoiler** With the opening turns of the game you will get access to take out those pesky ATGM's with helo's if your spotters have done their job. And being that they have had eyes on the target for several days...not a problem.
  9. It is unreasonable to expect this editor and game engine to create such a huge operating area as described in the original Operation Anaconda. I wanted to do a faithful map of the original area of operation but it was huge and involved multiple mountain ranges. Not to mention the sheer number of troops would be too much to model in this game. I think there were around 2000 coalition troops present.
  10. I wanted to stretch reality just a smidge with the ATGM's. They could have been stolen or otherwise. This is sort of a "final showdown" and I wanted to see how many ways I could bolster the Uncons. Also in the briefing it says that many of them are Chechen. I do believe Chechen might have access to ATGM's, although I am not sure. Glad you liked it.
  11. hellfire and hyrda missile systems and 50 cal.. I think a Hind is much more armored than a Kiowa. But since that has no bearing in this game, go for it. I think all this talk of red air power has got me in the mood to create a Red vs. Reds scenario with substantial air power on each side. All great comments and yes the chance of any air power existing is not likely. Perhaps in our temperate module we will have a chance to see air power make more of presence on both side.
  12. The 10th Mountain Division and the 101st Airborne must assault a mountain in the Shahi-Kot region of Afghanistan. US forces must secure a suspected cave complex and clear the mountain of suspected militants. (H2H, Blue/Red vs. RED, Multiple AI's for both Red and Blue) Both Red and Blue have unique challenges and each must be played to fully enjoy this scenario. I actually enjoy the Red scenario more because it is very challenging. I hope you enjoy it as well. It is loosely based on the operations that took place in Afghanistan during Operation Anaconda. I was hugely inspired by Sean Naylor's book, "Not a Good Day to Die, the untold story of Operation Anaconda." Looking forward to your feedback. Don't forget to vote and drop me a comment if you liked it.
  13. http://rt.com/Top_News/2009-09-03/russian-jets-heading-syria.html Now they have to find someone to fly them. I would love to see them in the game. Would even the whole support things out a bit.
  14. A British supply convoy must navigate a city gripped by looting and rioting after the accidental missile strike on a respected family in the area. Just uploaded it to the repository. Enjoy! Based on a Military Channel show about a similar situation that occurred in Iraq.
  15. Thank you for showing us constructive conversations are handled on forums(see Mail Ordered DISAPPOINTMENT (Brits) thread). They are shut down by admin's when they have nothing left to add to a debate. One more reason posting on this forum is futile. Quote: Yet another person who seems to have encountered the famous BF forum 'so what' attitude, 'if you dont like it you can 'eff off'. (per Moon) I am honestly speechless how anyone reading these forums or even just this thread could think something like that, but since it seems that nothing that I write in response is read, I am locking up this thread. If you are unhappy with your hardgoods, such as if it is damaged, please submit a support ticket at www.battlefront.com/helpdesk and it will be taken care of. __________________ So what do you do? Shut down the thread. Yes your I eff off attitude is obvious. I imagine the emails flying now. "They have a point, you know." "I think the best bet would be to close down the thread before too many people complain." "Good, do it." Yes we all read the emails about people being disappointed by their British hardcopies. BF spoke and after that it is all debate or conversation, so why the need to get all fascist on us and close down an completely valid convo? I suppose only things that are in BF's favor can stay open. Amazing that the Peng's challenge can go on FOREVER, but if someone starts making valid complaints the threads get shut down. It is a forum for discussion, not a conversation between A and B. Sad is all I can say. Get some tougher skin if you can't watch a completely valid convo go on between people who have sunk a lot of time in money into this company. But what do you care if you eff off people. I mean the people who read this are only a small portion of the buying power that keeps this company afloat...right?
  16. I am starting to think that most people posting here need to move on because as usual, people are not helping the convo. Actually we have moved on to people being jerks and they must be in BF's good graces because I see people get slammed by some beta tester, or admin, for being jerks and taking convo's off base in other posts but not here for some reason. OK BF made their point. Now everyone who doesn't have something positive to say needs to step off. It is the same spiel over and over ad nauseum. Every time a good point gets brought up, it is always some "small group" of people complaining as stated once in this topic and many times in other topics and somehow this marginalizes our points. Maybe not everyone feels the urge, has the time, ect to come post here about what they think is or isn't a problem. To assume just because they didn't come and post their thoughts doesn't mean everyone was happy with the shoddy shipping/packaging job. You make really wild assumptions about your customer base. Yes yes we all know it's your business, your game, you have been doing this for umpteen years, blah, blah, blah. I think what the people have been saying makes a ton of sense between the quality of the case/misinformation in marketing. In one post you talk about how the sales of British was through the roof and the next you are claiming poverty and acting life if you printed a manual you would loose your company. I just sounds contradictory. I just can't see how the money I spent on Marines was different than what I spent on the British and I got less for the money with British? Whatever, I will still buy the product, but I am entitled to say my peace and hopefully put a thought in BF's brain, so next time they make a decision, they might make one based on the small fringe group of elitist DVD case/cover art crazies, who actually enjoy a case and a manual. I am starting to see the futility of posting my thoughts on this forum because there are so many people who have nothing nice to say and BF honestly has a company line that seems to be fitting into all the arguments lately. Woe is me, we can't afford this or that. That is fine too. But forums are for discussion and when the discussion breaks down or one can expect what the response is before it is given seems silly to continue. I still think you guys rock though on 90% of any issue I have ever had. But we have to agree to disagree on this one.
  17. Expectation sure can be a bi&%tch. I guess everyone sort of expected it since they did it for the last two installments. I also made a comment about the shoddiness of my package. the jewel case was cracked and there were fingerprints all on the disc. Not what I expect from BF. So am I to chalk that up to the fact that they are a small operation? If you are in business, it is your job to give the best service possible or your demand might not be so high for your product as you would want. It is my observation that BF is moving away from cases for their games. I find this unfortunate because many people don't want to download a cover, put it in a case and refer to a PDF manual. Not everyone wants their product like that and why would any of us have suspected it would be different than the last two purchases? I think it is a sad excuse all the locals keep making for BF. I have been here for years and never felt like the quality of my hardcopy was not worth the investment.
  18. I don't think that is what he was getting at. I also agree that regardless of what soft factors you have set, sometimes the enemy surrenders way too easily. If we were to apply your rationale then the enemy would surrender soon as they came into contact with the coalition forces. The fact that the AI seems to surrender a little too easy does not dictate realism, nor pigeon hole me as a attritonalist. By the way what is that? Not in the King's English dictionary. I also second the remark about Fallujah. It was some of the hardest fighting of the war. What does that have to do with three squads and two tanks just sitting there and deciding to surrender? I have seen it where if the enemy wouldn't have surrendered they would have won. I have seen it where my troops couldn't get near the objective due to accurate sniper/hvy weapons fire and the scenario just ended with me having secured all six objectives (each which had troops in them), which obviously I had not. It felt cheap. The forces were not push over conscripts either. Made no sense with 45 min on the clock left. And if we apply that rationale, then I assume the opposite would be true as well if the coalition was the AI and the player was the Red forces? Could you imagine elite US forces evading a few chewed up squad's and losing their objective? I feel this is a minor flaw to a great game. But it does appear to a flaw none the less.
  19. Thanks! Looks great. Too bad BF didn't have the foresight to do this. One more way the "community" keeps this game going.
  20. The command and conquer remark was simply stated to point out that this isn't a one for one game of equal footing and it sounds like you knew that since you have been playing it for so long. No one was insulting you, just your argument. Now that I think about it, few wars have ever been fair or on even footing. Hell, even in world war II, didn't the Sherman's have to take out the German tanks from the rear? Adapt and overcome. Also you should explore head to head. A real player will do a heck of a lot more damage to you than that simple AI scripts.
  21. I don't think you have a clear picture of modern warfare. Red and Blue fight very different wars, looking for very different results. I consider myself a fairly decent player and I still occasionally lose on the elite setting. I get butthurt over it and move on and try and improve my tactics. As a scenario designers, all of my scenarios take into account the lopsidedness of the battles and I introduce environmental elements as well as ambushes, varying degrees of equipment and experience, and goals that may be difficult to achieve based on the situation of blue. I have played this game since day one and I hated it, but fell back in love after a few patches. This is the essential modern wargame simulation on the market. No other game SIMULATES a modern war with a modernized nation better. Maybe command and conquer is more your style.
  22. Just so Mikey doesn't sound like a glory hound, I will second both the highway tutorial and flavor objects at a glance. Invaluable to scenario designers. Also the fire and smoke mods out there are excellent. All of the above mods I also use. I at one time had every mod, but had some loading issues(European mods). Now I have it just to essentials. ZeeBee is essential as well. I would love to see BF include a mod selection tool to allow you to select mods. The problem is to organize mods takes some time and without zeebee it becomes frustrating.
  23. Sweet Jesus yes! I am so tried of my "convoys" wandering around the board after being told to drive in a straight line down a straight road. This is the only thing that really bugs me about CMSF. Even choosing them individually doesn't seem to help. They still wander around the board when they come under fire or just stop completely to get chewed up. I did an experiment with different experience drivers for trucks and it didn't change the fact that when they came under fire they would start making really bad choices. The only thing I noticed was the lower the experience the more likely the truck was to stop and the passenger die or bail out.
  24. Now that you mention it.....no. I wasn't aware the TARGET button is how you activate it. When I do AI scripts in the editor you just set them ambush at X meters. I never had the op to use IED's in H2H. So this is a first for me. Thanks for the heads up. Much appreciated.
  25. This guy has had 90% success rate in the single player game. Every time I ran my trucks over those IED's at least one of my vehicles triggered it, usually the first guy in the convoy. I have played the same scenario H2H over five time and they never trigger with all the same settings and placement.
