  1. --- I wouldn't say that Wargamer is too biased toward Matrix... Game of the year 2006 by Jim Cobb was Russo-Japanese War 1904-1905 which in fact made many Matrix fanboys cry in outrage "Betrayal!" and "How this is possible" I only criticize Wargamer for stating exactly that they are owned by Davod Heath, CEO of Matrix - many people don't know that by only address that is same as Matrix Games And one one developer left Shrapnel Games they behaved quite unprofessional - they published press release from that developer without waiting for comment from Shrapnel Games - they in fact mockered Shrapnel Games with that for a full week I think...and chuckled all along... But in the end I must say that Wargamer is quite professional - only too positive in all their reviews... For instance they should have said that Crown of Glory is pain in the ass to pay and enjoy as a game so basically stinker - and if you muffle that in a positive review and say that you must invest time to enjoy it is not true. It is true if you are masochist because that was Crown of Glory. Mario
  2. My mother died last November at the age of 55 and that was terrible blow for me. I look at many things now differently. Also, don't want to sound too depressing because I am ok but you don't keep anything. You can be dead tomorrow. Ask Jim Morrison and he said no one get's out alive. After 10 years this game might be obsolete or even don't work with Gazillion Windows Gates 1.7 People ussually even don't have a time to play the games as all new ones better arrive and yes classics are good to play but I still waiting for that first company to went under SO that you cannot play their games! That is nonsense those games will be able to be played as patch will be released. Even if some company do take over Battlefront.com I really don't see any interest in THEM making those games unplayable. I would not buy Battlefront.com assets and in fact frozen games from the past. Very bad move in fact and I would not give 1$ for whole Battlefront.com if that would be the case. I would say this, Battlefront.com promised patches if they go out of business and I trust them. Why I would not trust them? Give me one reason. Mario
  3. Battlefront.com is really one of the best companies in the world. They are doing this with heart and passion. I will drink one for your health today - just met a really gorgeus girl so I am in seventh heaven. uh... Well, so I will lessen my ToW time considerably Cheers, Mario
  4. Nothing is weird if it is presented in civilized way. So you think that what those guys at Sim HQ are doing is OK? With subjects like "this utter dreck of a game", then lies how they were banned wrongly and things like that? Look I don't have anything against Sim HQ. Everybody can have their own opinion. But if that Magnus guy is a reviewer then he should also know some things... There was not cheap Matrix making this game but 1C. Each model in the game by developers costed 5000$ that is not small money! So, they will make you 88mm gun if game sells simple as that. So if game make it on the market it will be even more better and realistic. I disagree wholeheartly that game is bad. Game is fantastic and effort that was put there is enormous. More later Mario
  5. I wouldn't say so.... Depends how you look on it... Those whiners at Sim HQ are really something. I would say spoiled brats. There is lies flying there how they behaved here... There are also polls "would you recommend ToW"... well, I can also make polls like that and bring 30 people to vote as "no" if I wish. Too much negativity... And even moderator there doesn't like ToW. Well, at least we can say that he is honest as right beside is banner from BFC and on top... Well, many people expected M1 Tank Platoon 3 or something. Here's a news for you: MicroProse and Dynamix are dead. And this is RTS you cannot be everywhere where is action at the same time. One thing is certain, game is really great, people are spoiled as it seems and want everything right now. There is no patience anymore. It's absolutely impossible as it seems that game such massive as ToW come out and doesn't have problems. Well, there is those small games that 2-5 people make and every one of them needs patches and graphics is rudimentary. Wargamers should also think about this demand on realism, yes it's OK to ask for realism but another things is what you will get in such a game regarding realism. For 45$ they have delivered fantastic game. Complaints and constructive criticism is OK but some other things are not. And look at current state of wargaming - small number of copies, developers are running away from it! So, people give some respect to 1C. I even regret at some of my words now. Mario
  6. Good post! I always laugh when I kill enemy tank and see it's crew jumping out The game is real beauty and lot's of fun. But you cannot please everyone and many gamers are spoiled . With time more people will recognize this game. I had yesterday good fun with one game - almost only tanks. Mario
  7. Bannings on BFC forum is cool Because there is always some good one liners by Moon, Maddmat or Steve LOL Think of it like quotes... you can putt them later into MTW 2 instead of those medieval quotes you read while game is loading... Cheers PS. banning is last resort but if nothing else helps then... and suddenly air is cleaner.
  8. Yes, we can Kurt Meyer "Grenadiers", "Panzer Operations" by Erhard Raus. both available on amazon.
  9. Hmmm... I see that many games at BFC forum doesn't have AAR section... too bad as AAR's are great way to promote tactics as well game in general and can be good read. I wrote several AAR's before for TOAW but that is another game hehe. AAR's can be really great read - see Paradox forum where some were really superb... Just a thought... AAR's can be written in RPG style and with good humour so maybe it can be a good idea to make AAR section.
  10. Moon, There is already on some forums post by some persons how majority of gamers who bought the game are not satisfied with this game... Let me say something about this... As preorders of this game was few thousands (that is almost number as some wargames are sold these days ) I don't see so many whiners and complainers... Maybe some have clearly some other agenda and ToW is good excuse to attack BFC through this game. Nobody is against complaints per se! Even from the plane is visible that this game has some flaws - but nowadays it is question more which game has not the problem with 1.0 version. I think that it is good that developers has shown dedication with planned add-ons, possible mission packs etc that they will as well works on improving the game. So it is just matter of time. Better than to scrap the game and not release it at all me thinks! I am not fanboy and would not want to be labeled as such. ToW is really best looking wargame ever released. No other company right now have better looking wargame. That is also an accomplishment for BFC. Gameplay is not such a hell like some want to portray this. Working in 3D engine is not so easy. I am thinking that that "infantry in the buildings" feature would be implemented if it was so easy to put it. And many others. So it was not intended to be a copy paste of Close Combat in 3D engine. We must not overlook that aspect of ToW - that it tries to achieve a greatness. With more time maybe it will achieve that and maybe not. I would also want that this is like Battlefield 2 or Total War games in version 1.0 but unfortunately it is not. Those attacks on BFC and 1C have got way out of normal... Why then competition doesn't deliver better game then this? You cannot have everything obviously - best graphics and best gameplay for Gods out of the box... Competition is there and I dare challenge them to make better game. Market is free so two years fast forward maybe they will make something. And maybe they will not. And 1C can only IMPROVE this game in that period. So patience... Mario
  11. Thanks Normal Dude, that was brilliant!
  12. The only thing left that continues to beggar my belief is how anyone can defend this game for longer than the time it takes to play a single battle. ******* Maybe because it is fun? BTW, I will point you and other whiners to one title called Hearts of Iron 1.0 PLEASE! Just don't patch Hearts of Iron 1 1.0 and then try this... march with your armies across Maginot line hehe and watch how they cut through those imprenegable french fortress. Gee guys maybe 1C should make a pacta conventa with you? and say to maybe quit whining and give them few month. In the meantime play snooker or tennis or phone that girl you promised to take her for a coffe LOL Mario
  13. I guess that making this game was not that easy. What developers should have done is publish a article "how we made ToW"... The engine is quite intensive and in 3D - I think that it is much harder to program and design game in 3D than in 2D. Maybe I am wrong. Nobody until now have put a POWER ON on their brain and asked themselve where is ATOMIC GAME doing CC6 that all will be playing? The guys at CSO Simtek released a remake of CC3 with exactly same graphics. OK, why they don't do redo of graphics and make a nice, crisp, scalable 2D engine that can go 2000x2000 or whaterver??? with zooming, new explosions, models etc... Will it be in CC6 hehe. Obviously 1C had big hurdles in making this game so they just couldn't put everything they hoped. That's why some dissapointments here on this forum. But we must not disregard good sides of this game and developers should improve what can be improved, fixed in 2-3 month for example. At least this is best looking wargame lite ever released. The future will tell how will they build on this foundation. Game is good, I object only sloppy beta testing, and lousy mission design. Look at Total War series. It is perfect. Yes, you will tell me that that game also had bugs. Yes, but they were very quicly squashed. Replayability there is huge. Another thing on GAMEPLAY. Players DO ENJOY challenging games. Players DO NOT ENJOY - frustrating missions like Dunkirk. Challenge is OK, hardship is OK but don't make it TOO HARD or TOO FRUSTRATING. Another opinion on in game missions. As I didn't had too much time to play (celebrating the birthday heheh etc...) I am still stuck at Dunkirk. Yes, I suck at playing ToW. And I play on EASY level! For Christ Sake that is Easy level? Jesus Christ even those Polish got my 3 tanks...argh. Easy should be easy or rather normal. Also, what happens if you lose too much forces in the middle of campaign, what system gives you for next mission, are there enough points to build forces to FINISH THAT MISSION??? somebody please answer this. So if player must play PERFECT and try to lose as little as possible against stronger forces he will be forced to start again and again same mission while he get's frustrated at playing same mission all over again (???) Can developes shed some light on this please? or any other. Panzer General 2 made it just perfect, that's why it is classic. Yes, you could lose even 3-4 units and still buy enough units to COVER that loss and not play that same mission again. Prestige points were accumulated by getting those victory hexes. I think game has HUGE potential. Missions, for example, must be made in that way so that they could be won by employing many tactics or at least few route of advance. And engine is just great - on top of that you can build many things that are missing (some thing may need more time I think). What I am seeing here are some too negative posts and some too positive. Neither is doing a justice to this game. I just like that unique feel about this game. Soldier on!
  14. I haven't had a freezup yesterday. I disable a music as some said here. Still patch on this is needed. And God damn it rifle platoon to shoot those who made so hard missions. Esp. Dunkirk. Mario
  15. Regardless of whether game X is worth the money or not, Hertston is right about the general principles. ********* I could also tell my friends to come here and tell that I am right LOLZ. Nope. You are both wrong. Actually there is something in what you wrote but I said numerous arguments and you cannot just like that dismiss them. Nope. They can set any price they want but it is a matter of question will it sell? I am not buying it at this price and many, many others. And actually you will not hear wargame publishers telling you how good game is selling. Mostly they hide this info. Even on Matrix site there were at least 10 people who said that they will not buy the game if I remember correctly. Translate that into sales numbers as so few people in fact post so you can imagine that many are not pleased with that price. But if only those who are pleased post then everything would be just splendid. So they lost my sale and sale of many others. That doesn't bode well with your telling that Hertson and Matrix got it right... Sure spend your money your way, I will my way. Hmmm, this discussion is not going anywhere. Mario
  16. Is there a reason why my monitor after lock up in ToW goes into 60hz ref. rate and was at 100 hz before??? Mario
  17. It is totally relevant when it comes to the marketing and pricing policy, which is what we are talking about. ********* We are moving into circles in this discussion. It is truth that many gamers have openly said that they will not buy CoI at this price. Browse the forums and see for yourself. If that is relevant for this game being a niche then those LOST sales are hurting them more than helping them. BTW here: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Dollar_voting with one regard - Matrix is not McDonalds so I am not using dollar voting for them to go into bacrupcy, I bought now TOAW 3 at their 40% off sale hehe at 24$ and that was price I was ready to pay. Anyway it will collect dust for some time. Similiar in the case of CoI they are just asking too much. ********** In what way is it a rip-off? It was made perfectly clear what people were getting for their money, and they had a totally free choice as to whether to pay it or not. You mean no more than "it cost more than I was prepared to pay". You didn't, so how have you been ripped off? Can you point me to any purchasers of CoI who claim that they have been? ********** I see that you are in love with Matrix Games and as CSO Simtek is a UK company I smell even God Save the Queen being played while you type your posts. Good Lord, am I speaking Chinese or Mandarin? I said, if CoI has a fair price than 1C and Battlefront are giving to us almost for free ToW. Do you think that 1C guys don't need money and that God is throwing fried chickens every day from the clouds? Being niche or not doesn't makes a difference but attitude toward your customers. Do you think that CC fans all want to give them 40$ for a CC3 with slapped mods, few things improved etc...? They could have give them extra motive as lowering the price. I know some diehard CC3 players who told me exactly what I am saying that they will not buy CoI at this price. So it is pitiful when hardcore fans of CC are saying that then something is wrong. I would rather please them. ******** It has nothing to do with being a 'fanboy', which incidently I'm not. ******** Then I don't know why you are defendig this bad practice? I have my reasons - I am against big prices for PC games but esp. big price when there is not reason for that. I would rather reward guys like 1C for working so hard - even considering so many flaws which I really criticized. (again last night PC froze, ah forgot to turn music off haha. and again monitor refresh rate goes to 60 hz! will put that into tech support). ******* Of course everything is comparable in those terms but, again, you have a free choice. I just don't see why you think the pricing is "unfair". If you think another game is more worthy of your $40 then buy that instead. Sure, if the price had been less more people would have bought it. But how many more? I said I was guessing the figures, but there is simply no evidence a lower price would have produced a greater profit. Matrix (and Battlefront, come to that) know the market better than we do - their living depends on it. ********* See, you have the case of Matrixis... You must play other games daily for six month and you will be cured I said to you numerous times why I think that and you are constanly jumping over my arguments when you don't have stronger to show. In poker you would be beaten long time ago. Matrix have just shoot themself in the foor. If price was lower than you are also making good PR for yourself (this isn't good PR and word of mouth), pleasing the fans and also fans coud then buy some other games as well to reward Matrix. I am telling you that I would not piss hardcore CC players. And judging by the forums they done just that in some cases. Not in mine I am not so big fans. I would not out Battlefront beside Matrix in this. Battlefront.com has not been ripping customers like Matrix is doing in this case. Defend those wrong principles as much as you want. I can then also release PAC-MAN from 1980. and slap 100$ price on it. But wargamers are high income sheeps for processing. ******** Not true. As I said it's a niche product, and (in essence) a nine year old game. The market was limited to enthusiasts no matter what price they charged. By your reasoning every gamer in the world will have downloaded Steel Panthers: World at War (being free). Have they? Nope. The great majority just wouldn't want to play it. ******** Oho, I see. Now you just jumped into your own throat as we will say LOLZ So Pedro from Mexico City will not want to buy CoI? See, you are just proving my facts that in niche products aim to please majority of fans with the price if content is so-so. And Oleg Mastruko have butchered content. So in this case we have rather high price for a 97 graphics and we have poor additional content. ********** Nope. Yet again, you have a perfectly free choice whether to pay or not. I think, even as an existing CC3 owner, it was money well spent. I won't comment as to who is in fantasy la-la land... ********** I am certanly not in fantasy la-la land and I am not giving them my 40$. When it drops to 24$ then we will see, not before. Until then I will reward creativity and hard work of others and in some cases being able to produce a perfect game (that is MTW 2 from your UK countrymen at Creative Assembly). (will not try to explain what means perfect). Mario
