  1. OK, I am assuming it's something on my end. I am up to date on drivers and more than exceed the system reqs. I d/l'd the demo and installed it no problems. I try to run the .exe and get nothing. No splash screen, no error messages...nada.

    XP Home

    Intel Core2 E6400

    Dx9.0

    GeForce 7950GT @ 512MB

*edit* I ran the setup, switched over to run as single processor, no changes.

  2. I'm as big a fan of coop as anyone. Nothing like teaming up with a friend (or stranger!) or group of people to dominate the AI.

I dare say I prefer coop to playing 2v2 vs humans. At least historically speaking, at least 1 of the humans will be a juvenile idiot.

Only if you are dumb enough not to pay off at the end of the end of each month are they "rip off".

Agreed. As long as you don't carry a balance from month to month, and are smart enough to find a card with no yearly fee, you don't pay any more with a card than you do with cash.

As a matter of fact, I've got a card now with no yearly fee that gets me 5% off of gas purchases with a certain gas company. With gas prices this high, I figure I'm actually making money by having this credit card. Just pay off the balance every month and save 5% on my gasoline bill. No catch.

And secondly, when things kick off you either type or you win, not both.

I respectfully disagree. A team that can organize and plan it's assault (or defense) stands a very good chance of winning.

Conversely, the lack of in-game chat tends to level the playing field, so to speak.

I say this lack of chat is going to favor the team that just sends their forces, en masse, into the enemy. While the strategic thinking teams are spreading their front, deploying reserves, etc, the clicker will just drag-select a huge group of troops and click "attack" somewhere. The other team, being unable to communicate, will not be able to coordinate a flanking maneuver, etc.

remember this game is much shorter than Combat Mission. Are you really going to have time to type out messages to each other in a real-time, 30 minute firefight ?

    I dont think so.

    Sure you will.

    "go left, I go right"

    "Sherman in overwatch"

    "get arty on the trenchline"

Short messages, or some way to communicate in a MP game is pretty essential, I'd say...at least if you want to have some sort of battle plan.

Are you serious? We were told from the start that preorders would be opened up "earlier than the regular orders". Where in there do you read it would be "weeks" earlier? As if that wasn't enough, we were also told the demo would be released "around the same time as the full game opened up".

Again, where in there is the confusing part?

If you're regretting your preorder, based on some photos and an admittedly silly intro movie, then maybe you need to contact them about cancelling your order. Then you can wind up paying $55 for the stuff you already had for $45. I'm sure they wouldn't mind taking an extra $10 from you. Better yet, just send me $10.

I can relate to your post, and that is why I asked the question initially...I have played the games you mentioned and playing with "kids" or "uber" players just isn't any fun...there is no thought or immersion in the games...they just want to kill you and get on to the next "victim"...why not just play a shooting gallery game...I like the age mix in here...and I like most of the reasons people play...Hopefully, you're right, and some of us Old Timers will hit it off and we'll have some good MP experiences...

Hear hear! Here's hoping you and I can hook up for a match or 3. Maybe I'll even let you win one, you old coot! ;)
  8. You guys realize the official release date is April 19, right? That's still 13 days away. Moon stated long ago that preorders would be opened up "before the official release date". He even went on to elaborate that preorders would likely be "a few days" before official release.

I want this game as bad as anyone, and have placed my order like many of you. But to condemn BF or any other company (and threaten to be 'less likely to preorder or buy in the future') when you're not even giving them a chance to act on their promises is just ludicrous.

  9. 29 here, be 30 this summer. Been gaming for about 20 years now, back to the Intellivision and Commodore 64 days! Big fan of WW2 games, own all of the CM games plus the DiF game. Tried a bunch of others but I guess I just like the realism and the fact that smart tactics gets rewards in these games.

Not a big fan of playing with young kids, at least not in any of the games I've tried. CoH, CoD, and all other WW2 games I've tried online have been against 'uber' people, as they call themselves, and I just can't stand it. My hands don't work as fast as they used to, and I can't do well in a clickfest RTS like CoH.

Perhaps playing with some of you old timers will rekindle my faith in playing MP games!

  10. seasider, I doubt they're losing a "huge customer/fanbase" by not accepting paypal.

And MajorPrivate, not everyone is able to get a visa or mastercard. It's no skin off of your back, so why do you need to be so ****ty about it? Your comment about getting a credit card signed "The rest of teh modern world" seems pretty sarcastic, wouldn't you agree?
