  1. Ummm, it's empty. And all the rest is in Spanish. ?
  2. Umm, could we pretend, just for a bit, that I don't know where that is? (Even though I've looked.) WHEN WILL THE BRITISH BE READY??
  3. Urk. More computerese. I'll do my best. Many thanks. WHEN WILL THE BRITISH BE READY??
  4. Can someone tell me ho to delete the many saved games shown in the tiny window where I select what to play? Thanks.
  5. I downloaded the patch some time ago. I'm delighted to say I had no problems but lots of great new results, and I'm stuck with VISTA! All the gizmos seem to work but the biggest benefit is that my drunken mouse has sobered up and is now as stiff and direct as...hmm, I think I'll leave that simile. Anyway my mouse now works like it does in other areas of my computer. Perfectly. Only snag I seem to have (and it may just be me) is that in the Battles the screen seems a little slow and jerky (This is not a big problem at all) whereas in the campaign (Pooh) it's perfect. WHEN ARE THE BRITS GOING TO BE READY??????? (Sorry, like Cicero I have to end every comment with that question.) "Delenda est Carthago" for those who don't know what I'm babbling about.)
  6. This is a real problem with computer games. See I bought my computer because it does stuff I like. I don't CARE HOW it works, only that it should. I'm lucky in that I have a 28 year old computer genius as a son. (And I do mean genius!) There's is no way I could untangle, oh, computer geeky stuff, and I don't want too either. Now I know that the nature of the beast is that the games come with bugs. And I know it's very difficult for you chaps to sort them out. But I do think you ought to be able to provide a solution for bugs aimed at gamers and not at computer geeks. I say this without unfair criticism I hope, as this game is a miracle if one was around in the days of the Sinclair or TRS 80. (It's also a bloody good game.) WHEN ARE THE BRITS COMING!!!!!!!!
  7. Oh c'mon. Why would they need to trick people to buy Marines and Brits? Hell the game is so damn good I'd buy the Albanian upgrade! PA You'll be doing an Albanian upgrade? Yes??
  8. I was struck by one respondee here who said something to the effect that having loopholes in the rules (or something like that) compensated for his lack of real military training. Now whilst now wishing them to give anything away are there any Troops out there who find their military training to be of any help in the game?
  9. Yo Martin! How about an answer to my query? Can I download the patch whilst in the middle of the Marine's Operation Pooh?
  10. It has been pointed out to me ,by my family, that using the above quote could be considered offensive. Thus I apologise. I know "Fawlty Towers" was shown in Germany but I then realised that the "German" episode was never bought. You have therefore probably not seen it and the reference is meaningless. This is a games forum - and I apologise.
  11. "Oh, you're German. I thought there was something wrong with you." :-) Homage to John Cleese's "Fawlty Towers". Actually we could do with Germans too. All those nice Leopards and Marders.
  12. Wiggum, if you want Brits I suspect you are British. Well I'm English and can advise you this about the Marines. If you have the Marine Corp you really don't need the US Army :-)
  13. I'm running the Marine campaign and am in the first hour of "Pooh". Can I download the patch as you say I should wait until I've "finished"? PS When are the British coming?????????????????
  14. Well I'm three minutes into this operation and no-one's shot at me yet :-) It can't last. My main reason however for posting this is the following. (It should not be taken as criticism of this wonderful game btw, simply as an interesting fact.) I am not sure how many Americans realise that the word "Pooh" as used these days, and certainly not when the book was written, in the UK means, how can I put it? Hmm, "Excrement". Usually human. Why people can't say excrement is beyond me, as it's certainly more acceptable that **** or **** (fill in as appropriate) but it isn't going to be very nice for a widow to say that her husband died in Syria in "Operation Pooh". Unfortunate, but there it is :-(
  15. OMG ;-) Message too short will I please lengthen it. Okay.
  16. I'm just about to begin this scenario and thus haven't read any of the above, bar the last comment, because I don't want to spoil it. Two points though. If you could pick the forces you wanted it would be too easy and not much of a challenge, no? Secondly I really HATE the Objective names. Winston Churchill once said that no British actions/plans were to be given names which would embarrass the relatives of a dead or wounded soldier. I.E. "Oh, my son died in Operation "Resounding Victory", or " I lost my leg in "Eyeore"! I think British Operations were picked from a randomly generated pre-approved list - but I hasn't to add I may well be wrong there.
  17. Quote//Naturally, if you have to withdraw it is another problem. You can't let him behind, alive. That might cost your life, but you will do the utmost to bring him back, neither mind if he dies later, you don't let a dead friend behind.Quote// Yes, I think actually that is more what I meant. I guess that's why we (thank God) call it warGAMING
  18. Quote//Have you tried the ATI left click option in the Options panel of the game?Quote// I've re-tried the Mouse option and, now I'm more familiar with the game it's great, much easier. Many thanks for the suggestion.
  19. Two more points as I get into the game even more. 1 It wasn't a javelin. I fired one in the third Marine scenario (Protecting the left flank/valley). Niiiiiiiice weapon :-) I'm going to use that a LOT! Still dunno what the weapon I saw was but I think it was one of the many anti-tank or anything else that one's batman carries around with him. (You'll see this when the British forces arrive.) 2 Some time ago someone kindly suggested I alter the mouse setting. It must have been my unfamiliarity with the game then that caused me to think that option was no help. I tried it again and it's much better. My thanks to whoever suggested it. 3 (Three more points) I'm learning to use the Acquire order and saved my bacon when my chaps ran out of anti tank ordnance in the third scenario. Thank goodness those vehicles turned up. 4 (Four more points) the split order is nice, especially using an AT contingent. Took out one of those nasty T62s.
  20. Well I know FMJ was about Marines but it was also in Vietnam which, as an ardent America-phile, was not your country's finest hour. I do take you point however that removing the problem is a priority it's just that removing the casualty then becomes (as it should) the second priority. As tp Conscripts, well it depends on just how awful they are. Paper Tiger thanks for the advice, but mainly thanks for the Spoiler. So often people forget.
  21. Oh the addiction has set in ok! Luckily I now only work six hours a day (going down soon to five) so that means I can allot from 15:10 to 18:00 to the game on most days. (Sometimes my wife wants to talk to me but hell, we've been together 33 years you'd think there was nothing else to say.) Am I wrong or are the first two Marine scenarios (in the campaign) real easy? The first one I lost 99% of my chaps but hit the objectives and got a Total Victory. In the second I lost only six chaps KIA but left the enemy with only about three I think alive and hit all my objectives. If I play the campaign again in a higher level do the enemy stay the same and in the same places. That would take the edge of enjoyment of it. I haven't realised the usefulness of the Aquire order until I read the above, I like to play the game and then pick up the finer points later. Thanks for the advice. Going back to that Javelin I could swear that one of my teams fired it at a spotted and firing enemy group in buildings to the right of the tank. It came in as a white "spear". (Very cool.) Still I guess I'm wrong. I'll go back and play it later. (Maybe a grenade launcher - maybe I imagined it.) This is a magnificent piece of work for a game. It certainly beats "pong". (I loved that. <g>) I'd like to see a little more concern for wounded friendlies. In "real life", if a comrade is down then that effectively stops the other nine or so from moving, especially in American units and Elite units in general. I would expect Syrians to ignore their wounded but not our chaps when each on has been trained at an astronomical cost and, more to the point, has a family! WHEN DO THE BIRTISH FORCES ARRIVE!!!!!!!!!!!! WHEN, WHEN????
  22. Quite possible, I know I had to blow the tank up with artillery.
