  1. Could this be the first use of an EFP mine caught on tape?: The U.S. has them in inventory, and they are the kind of thing it would make sense to ship the Ukrainians by the plane load.
  2. What achieves the complete obliteration of the tank is its own ammo, but whatever the Ukrainians hit it with was more than sufficient to set that ammo off. I am just wondering about the rest of the column. I suspect they got VERY reluctant to continue down that road. Hopefully another couple of platoons of abandoned vehicles by the next morning.
  3. Yeah, but then their are the five perfectly good T-80s abandoned in the mud, that is just not an indicator of a functiong army.
  4. https://militaryland.net/ukraine/invasion-day-19-summary/ Static almost everywhere...
  5. So does Putin start ordering suicidal attacks in five days in a last ditch attempt to pull it out, escalate in some horrible way, or get forcibly retired in one way or another. If he had the sense to just quit he would have done it by now. I guess I would have to add would have to add, does his army obey suicidal and/or truly stupid orders.
  6. As brave as the guy firing the NLAW from 50 meters. Edit she has been "detained"
  7. I wouldn't want to argue with him about it, some very small percentage of people just like combat, just the way it has always been. He has a legally issued hunting license from the Ukrainian government, no limit stated, If the Russians don't like it they can go home.
  8. Impossible to guess at this point. Putin could have an attack of rationality at any moment, or never. The Russian army in Ukraine could just give up suddenly, or just sullenly sit there and pump out artillery shells at whatever rate they can be delivered. The oligarchs/FSB could launch a coup in the morning, or never. The chaos of war is full effect, and the first thing to do is admit what you don't know. The actual commanders just have to take their best available information, and make the best decisions they can. They have to make decisions because standing still is almost always the WORST plan once the shooting starts. Eighty other things I could list...
  9. It was one issue, and the Iraqi army was already done. Ukrainian armed resistance is in an entirely different galaxy. Just no comparison.
  10. https://www.ft.com/content/52ea7aab-f8d1-46b6-9d66-18545c5ef9b9 Putin has had to ask the Chinese for help. Not clear what he asked for, or when he might get it. I don't have subscription to read the whole article.
  11. 2500 Javelins a year needs a zero added to it. Because when there are 10,000 to 20,000 javelins, and 10,000 to 20,000 stingers/starstreaks on Taiwan, the island is uncrackable, at least to get in any state where there would be a point in taking it.
  12. "Russian and Ukrainian forces are now pitted in fierce street fighting in the suburban towns around the capital. Russian forces greatly outnumber the Ukrainian Army, but the Ukrainians have been ambushing them with Javelin anti-tank missiles supplied by NATO and the United States." Above is from the New York Times, which I usually like, usually. The mainstream press simply has not been able to absorb the math on the manpower situation. Assuming if you are reading this you have already read Steves excellent analysis. The media/press/conventional wisdom blob just has this wrong, and no amount of proof seems to be getting through. So they will be surprised all over again.
  13. Approximately none, and approximately never. The Belorussian Military is more inclined to depose Lutashenko than it is to Fight Ukrainians with good ATGM. Lutashenko knows this, so he keeps promising Putin they are coming, while they sort of pretend to get ready.
  14. Flywheel of barbarity is just going to spin faster, and faster.

  16. Most of which might happen as a RESULT of this little military fiasco.
  17. Wow, you just laid out Combat Mission Future Shock in one perfectly composed page. Steve, can you add your usual layer of magic and get this over to Charles straight away?
  18. Worth your life to even hint at the truth in Russia now, or near as makes no matter. The thing that I keep coming back too is that Russia has lost the information war outside of Russia, even more catastrophically than they otherwise would have, due to Putin's bright idea about not admitting they are even fighting. So they really haven't even tried to put out much combat footage that makes them look good, and so on.
  19. Thus admitting that the sanctions have wrecked the Russian economy completely.
  20. Is there any way to tell from public information how much the Russians have been able to increase the security of their supply lines?
  21. This video seems to think the overhead slat cage is at least not worthless. How does this square with the very large Russian amour losses?
  22. Relevant to both the general state of the war, and the ongoing discussion on tactics and force types. Can the Ukrainians make them bleed enough to hurt when they go static?
  23. Anybody got a primer on the different uniforms?
