  1. On the experience level topic, I read a post a while back from BFC that said experience levels dictated whether the unit fired back while taking fire instead of taking cover. So I don’t think it has anything to do with better trained so to speak.

I think the quality of soldier is coded in the game for the respective sides I don’t think you can change that.

The big difference in training is muscle memory. When I was in the military we conducted three to four live fires a year which I believe helped when on deployments when I was fired upon because it didn’t have as big of a shock as it would have if the only time I heard rifle fire was in a controlled environment such as a qualifying range. I’m not sure but I doubt Syrians conduct many live fire exercises.

I have to agree with Dima, I don’t recall my units responding so well to hidden targets. One thing I haven’t seen brought up is the fact that the Syrian and US army’s aren’t even in the same league. There are many factors involved here. Presumably the US side hasn’t got the crap bombed out of them for a week before the battle starts which the Syrians in RL would have to endure. Plus it has been proven twice in the past twenty years or so, Iraq with a similar if not better army has been destroyed with in weeks. Time after time when ever armies in this region equipped with Soviet era equipment fight another Western equipped army head to head they get beaten, and fairly badly beaten.

I read a book about Israeli armor and one of the things described in the book was how they would fire their tanks machine guns at a suspected AT-3 position (which the Egyptians were equipped) in order for it to miss its mark. So I would assume Israeli’s equipped with modified WW2 Sherman tanks in the 60’s-70’s could spot an AT position, then so should modern US tanks. Of course the Israeli’s lost some tanks to the ATGM’s and I lose some CMSF tanks to ATGM’s but I don’t think the ATGM is a supper stealth weapon. I think this is because the back blast involved with ATGM’s is probably pretty substantial.

  2. This also means persuading the Syrian Tanks to hold still while my JTAC calls in successive support missions against them in full view of my own positions.

Calling in an air support mission would probably consist of calling the Apaches forward, specifying loiter time and preferred target choice, then they pull back into "air alert" until called for again.

    Any thoughts?

I'm pretty sure once you select the tank to be destroyed even if the tank gets out of your view the chopper will still attack it. At least this was the case for me on a couple of missions. The crappy thing is they"ll attack it even if it has already been destroyed.

I think your solution is a great idea and would be a great addition to the game.

  3. LLF,

While it is true we aren't going to release another huge patch, like v1.10, for CM:SF again, it isn't true that we're not going to work on it any more. It's also not true that we're only doing one more Module for CM:SF. The first is Marines (obviously), second is British, third is NATO. British Module is coming along VERY nicely and NATO is already in the early stages of development.

    Oh, Adam, I forgot...

We feel that instead of spending considerable time retrofitting CM Normandy improvements into CM:SF, and charging people for it (there is no way we can do all that work for a free patch!), everybody is better off if we update the entire CM:SF experience. That includes a new temperate setting and an expanded Red Force.

    Steve

Wow if I understood what you wrote, an expanded red force with nato troops in a temperate climate, that means pretty much a whole new game.

  4. 1500+ dead at the moment. Tskhinvali (capital) is completely levelled by Georgian heavy artillery.

South Ossetia and Abkhazia, in legal terms, have as much right to idependance as Kosovo did. Now, Albanians were "freedom fighters", "friends on the U.S.", "victimized people", while the Serbs were "war criminals", "baby eaters" and who can forget "ethnic cleansers". In case with Kosovo, not entire population wanted to separate from Serbia, however those wanting to stay in were quickly silenced and put into Serb ethnic enclaves. In case with Abkhazia - they all 100% support separation from Georgia. In case with S.Ossetia - they all 100% support serparation from Georgia and annexation to Russia.

Since i am a product of evil Russian propaganda (while living and having served in Canada...), help me understand here - how are Georgians justified? Shell a civilian city into the ground at the start of the Olympic games, bombard the hell out of peacekeeper positions, and then call on to the world community to "help Georgia to defend against Russian imperialism".

    So yeah, double standards everywhere...

I agree, I think Clinton and his staff were wrong for attacking the Serbs. But how can you imply that this isn’t Russian imperialism? This state which is part of Georgia wants to separate its self and be annexed by the Russians correct? I’m sure the Russians had no part in encouraging this behavior.

The term “peacekeeper” is also a misstatement. Protecting a state stolen from another country shouldn’t be defined as peacekeeping. This whole thing is over an oil pipeline anyway isn’t it?

  5. HOWEVER, back to Rich's main point: passengers will ONLY leave the vehicle at the final waypoint (and I'll be very happy to be proven wrong. PLEASE, someone show me how), which I feel is a big disadvantage that should be addressed as a priority. It'd make a huge difference to be able to dismount a squad and then have the transporting vehicle move on, without having to give new orders.

I don’t see why this is a problem. But maybe you’re talking about WEGO. I only play real time so after I drop the troops where I want them I just command the vehicle to go where I want it.

On that note, I used to play exclusively on wego but now have gotten used to real time and this game works a lot better in real time. You guys should give it a chance.

  6. Does anyone know if some vehicles spot better while buttoned up compared to unbuttoned? It seems as if the modern tanks (M1, T-72 even the Brad etc…) spot enemies better while buttoned up. Where as the less high tech early Syrian tanks spot better unbuttoned. I’ve also noticed it seems the MGS’s spot better while unbuttoned.

I haven’t run any controlled environment test but have just observed this over the course of me playing this game.

So has anyone else noticed this or am I just getting the wrong impression?

  7. Yea right before they announced CMSF they were hinting at a modern setting and I prayed for a cold war setting like early 80’s. I like this game a lot but…… I think a cold war setting would have been better/ more fun.

I know and don’t blame BFC for not wanting to put in the hours it took to make the first CM games but it would have been awesome if they had NATO forces versus the Soviet Block forces with complete TOE’s. They could have even split it up like the first CM series; CMx2 game one could have been Soviet attack across Germany. The second could have been an Allies counter attack across the western part of the Soviet Union etc.

I guess to get to the original point of this thread, I really like red vs red scenarios and am having a great time playing the Hasribat (sp) campaign right now.

  8. Zmoney - with players around the world I would have thought any schedule could be accomodated! : )

True, but this game look like it will be pretty immersive. I played a CMAK campaign that took a year to complete (which I won in case anyone’s keeping score) and I think a game of this magnitude would take double that.

Plus, I sucks waiting for turns especially when the action is heating up.

  9. Hello I'm sure this question was asked three years ago when the game was announced but....... How will the game play out as a single player against the computer? I'm not one of these unrealistic customers that expects the AI to be as cunning as a human opponet but seeing as I will mostly play this game against the computer, due to my work schedual I hope it will be worth while.

So, will the AI put up a good fight or is this game ment for two player only?

Low walls are in most of the scenarios with the few exceptions of the desert.

If other things are planned for 1.06, can we get a 1.05a release that fixes the low wall bug?

Yes please BFC. I feel the same way and have stated so sice 1.05 came out. Yea it fixed some problems but it has made the game nearly unplayable. To me this is the only thing that really bothers me. Please release a hotfix for the low wall bug. Specially if 1.06 is a couple of weeks away.
  11. How funny what people notice. The only problem I currently have with the game is the low wall issue. I guess only things that really bother me are game play issue's, which the low wall is almost a game stopper to me. In fact it stopped me from playing this weekend even though I wanted to sooooo badly.

So please BFC if 1.06 is weeks away from being released, at least put up a hot fix for the low wall issue. Or is there a way to go into the game files and fix this ourselves? Because it wasn't an issue in 1.04.

But good list though. Hope all those things are fixed too.

BTW, Charles fixed the low wall LOS bug over the weekend already. It was a fairly easy thing to address.

While not a game breaker it is very annoying. Will you release this as a hotfix sometime soon or are you guys going to wait till 1.6?
  13. I played your map. I liked it more than I thought I would. In fact I really liked it.

    Spoilerssssssssssss

I lost 6 dead and 19 wounded. The enemy 209 KIA 172 wounded.

I think if you take away some of the arty the map would be more of a fight. I've got to say though, if this map was set durning daylight hours it would have been a real tough fight.

So in conclusion less arty, only one platoon of tanks instead of two. Unless you make it a daylight operation.
