  1. I doubt the Germans would use their Gepards in ground combat unless it was an emergency situation. Expensive, vulnerable, and big... not good things for a vehicle going up against an enemy with $30 RPGs :D

Moreover, Gepard crews aren't allowed to fire tracers at soft targets because of some parapgraph in the Genava Convention - which dimibishes their use in ground combat somewhat. But they have developed a simple method for taking care of infantry: When th Geaprd gets attacked, the crew simply advise the artiellery to conduct anti-personnel are fire in a radius with the Gepard in the center. Simple and effective - becaue not only will the enemy infantry be take care of, but also the Gepard itself because the top armor is to thin... :D

  2. Not the funniest, but still good:

    ouch.jpg

    - Now this is gonna hurt... As could be expected, the RPG hit the turret EXACTLY below the ERA.

    parking.jpg

    - The tank survived nontheless with every internal system inside the turret destroyed and both the commander and gunner becoming casualties. This is the spot where the driver decided it was safe for him. (And no, I haven't set that one up!)

  3. I do use:

    - El_Terrifico's 'Syrope' combined with Birdstrike's 'Summertime Grass'

    - Scipio's explosions, fire and gun muzzle effects

    - proEffect's smoke and tracers

    - Gordon Molek's 'camo Russina Vehicles'

    - my own 'T-72 3-color Camouflage' *cough* *cough*

    - Gordon Molek's/Marco Bergman's NATO camouflage vehicles

    - NormalDude's 'Woodland Uniforms and Vests' + MARPAT camouflage for Marines

And, of course, some small odds and ends where I have modified the game to my liking...

  4. The first number gives the company, second the platoon, third the vehicle number. Thus in this case it's 8th company, 0 denoting the HQ, the second 8 is the curious one as it tells us it's the 8th vehicle in that HQ, which seems unusually large.

Technically, it could either be a replacement tank of the Kompaniestab (meager evidence for that) or - more likely - a vehicle of the Aufklärungszug. In that particular case, though, every vehicle in said company would need to have continous numbers - the Stab having 801, 802 and 803 and the Aufklärungszug showing 804, 805, 806, 807 and 808.

There was also the famous tank A.

Well... What do you think of this:

    04cd3.jpg

The pattern is halfway accurate, by the way - and there was not only a Panther numbered "AJ9" but also a PzIV. Said PzIV being seen in Normandy, too, if I'm not mistaken. :D

  5. I think they said about a week for the stand-alone patch, but now we're approaching 2 weeks.

If only everything would run according to plan, we'd already have CMN out, the CMSF NATO module and at least two modules in the works. Too bad it doesn't work that way in real life... :(

  6. One thing I was thinking about the other day is how casualties are shown in open top vehicles. Until the Brits, I don't think we had any open top vehicles in CMSF. It's kind of weird to see soldiers just instantly disappear when they are hit. There are going to be a lot of open top vehicles in WWII and it would be nice to be able to see the casualties and have an opportunity to give them buddy aid.

Good point. Would like to see that as well - especially since I had a vehicle full of men got taken out in my last CMSF battle without the possibility to at least salvage the weapons (what use is the second man in an AT team when the guy with the AT wepaon gets wounded inside teh vehicle?) - but it might just be too complicated to code, although I agree that it makes much more sense given the abundancy of lightly armored vehicles in WW2...

  7. Fennek differs more, atleast in capability.

Seems the Germans opted for arming them with GMG and MG3 (no .50?) while the Dutch went for the .50. The Dutch bought a handful of GMGs for Afghanistan but I'm not sure which vehicles they got mounted on. I don't think the Dutch use MAGs though I recall seeing a promotional with a Fennek so equipped.

German army doesn't use .50cal, only 7,62mm for their MG3. But since that is an improved/modernized version of the MG42, who cares? :D

  8. Not sure your AP is up to killing anything it might come across.

    M829A3 fired from the L/44 > DM-63 fired from the L/55

Can't comment on that since I have no data at hand - just my own personal conjecture.

But surely having units in combat all the time somewhere gives weapon developers a different perspective and the need to for improvement/further development of components like projectiles. Now the Leopard isn't a tank that has seen extrensive combat service, but it has seen some in the recent years - and (please correct me) either all nations using Leopards (in actual combat or circumstances resembling) besides Germany use their own projectiles or they are satisfied enough with what they get else there'd be more/other prohjectile types to choose from. But, as I said, I do know as much about MBTs as the average guy out there knows about quantum physics - besides the basic facts about weight, calibre, general armor protection etc.

That's what happens when you devote most of your free time studying WW2... :D

  9. (...) but your ammo doesn't compare to ours.

That's just because German tanks don't need any other ammo than HE and AP to kill everaything that they might come across. And I think BFC will come up with a few other types of ammo currently in development/testing stages - if not, so be it. Can't have everything now, can we?

  10. Yes, Heer have approx 800 tanks, 400 are Leopard 2A5 and leopard 2A6 in first line units, 400 another are Leopard 2A4's in second line, reserve and training units.

Ah, I see. Thought there were only a few 2A4 left in training units.

So really don't expect that you destroy US.Army HBCT that is well commanded, of course i say HBCT vs. German tank or mech infantry battalion.

It will be interesting to see with what structure BFC comes up ocne the NATO module is in development and how well that comaprs to current US structures.

So in your position I would use flank manouvere, frontal attack is a suicide. ;-)

Oh, I'm mroe thinking of a tank vs. tank scenario for a start - everything else comes later. Besides, the MG42 still is the best machinegun there is and we still use it. :D

  11. Um, you WILL be seeing German soldiers. :) This has been said for some time now.

Well, I haven't been following CMSF development as closely as I could have, apparently. But all the better - as long as we at least get some 2A5 rather than those outdated 2A4. Are we still using those, actually?

Side note: Can't wait to tackle US forces with German equipment on my side... *G*

  12. In the NATO-Modul, the goverment has made the decision, that we are going to war and invade a country. So your, in fact, realistic and cynical thoughts, can be forgotten here! ;)

I know, I know... But things have improced now, haven't they? At least our soldiers are allowed to shoot now - even when they haven't been shot at.

But seriously, I doubt we'll be seeing German forces in the NATO module - German equipment, yes. But German soldiers? Since when have we begun attacking other countries again?

  13. And you absolutely have to accurately depict the debates of the German government before every engagement if the German sldiers may actually fire back if shot at - and that they won't use their weapons if decide against. Oh, and, of course, they'll only do some recon and patrol missions, no actual combat in a direct way. And have traffic tickets inlcuded for each German driver who breaks road traffic regulations!

  14. Maybe it just doesn't sell well enough over here so they're considering if it is worth the effort. Or 1C thinks a different publishers might handel thigns differently. Glad to see there'll be something else than Africa, though!
