  1. Make sure all the units that you are going to move are not tired, have them sit for a turn or two to rest. While they are there put some in firing positions to help soften enemy that you are advancing towards, even area fire if you suspect an enemy location and ammo is not a concern. Make sure they can stay in command for as much of the advance as possible. Spread out the units as much as possible to reduce the effects that fire on one unit will have on other nearby units. Don't hurry the advance, you gotta see the enemies start to bop up and down, depending on how much supporting fire you have, this could take a few turns.
  2. I've been trying to use the ruleset for a time now with some success. There are alot of players out there who want no part of it. If you want drop me a line and we can talk about a game. So far my limited experience with it has been quite pleasant.
  3. Why not allow some points to be spent that allows some portion of the opponents positions be known. Like Inf Sounds ect. It would only apply to QBs, as the canned scenarios should be taken care of in the description.
  4. I have found that the turn numbers for a ME seem to feel right at about 35-40 (Variable). As stated before it is more then about flag capture and long extended firefights. I try to time the engagement to begin later, when my units are in place, and then strike hard, push the opposition back and take the victory flags that are then exposed. Prepare for a short counterattack by the opposition and we're done. I think that in context, a Meeting Engagement is just that, a quick decisive battle of oppertunity, not a drawn out affair. That being said, to play on some larger maps and be able to use the terrain effectively does require more time then 25-30 turns.
  5. I just played a game where i shot down a plane... replayed the movie turn several times, never heard nothing, just the red targetting line suddenly disappeared. It would have been nice to hear something or at least see something a little more obvious.
  6. I tend to prefer the Allied side myself.I don't even really look that closely at the name myself when I am scanning through the games, I think like it was said before, it's the cool stuff that the Germans have. Even my 10 year old son, when I see him playing CM is playing the German side for that very reason. And face it we are all just boys posing as men.
  7. Seeing as how we are on the women topic; are there any women that play any of these games regularly, and if so how did you all fair against them, and are they still around. I have always kinda figured that war an his kin were all just a male thing. I mean there is nothing like clubbing someone to death or sticking him with anything sharp to make us happy. My wife just looks at me with a blank look every time that I even boot CM up.
  8. A little known feature in the game, her side probably nagged a few of your soldiers to death and the rest lost the will to carry on the fight.
  9. There are some out there still playing, myself included. Even without the facelift with some mods, it is worth a game or two. It's great having some allied arty that doesn't take 10+ minutes to arrive. I echo the Thanks to those that keep the mods and scenarios coming!
  10. That's what I wanted to know, thank you. I just got caught 3/4s the way across an open field when the screen i laid started to vanish. Got ugly real fast.
  11. To save me from running a test on the topic (I'm lazy), and the fact that there is probably someone out there who has already done it I will ask this: Is there any difference in the time that a smoke round from different arty and guns stays on the map? Do larger rounds stay longer or are they all the same?
  12. I lose mostly from hesitation and being overly cautious. Combat is like sports, the great players do things when they should do them, not when they have to do them.
  13. I would be interested in a game as well. If you can fit me in, I'm at djtrill@hotmail.com
  14. Yes there are some of us who do like this topic. Some of us have a love hate relationship with the big tin cans - pray I never see them, but can't wait to try to open one up when I do see one. The problem is that one of them is bad enough, but two or more with infantry support is another matter. I do agree with a post back a bit, that the larger maps give the Allied attempts to hunt one a better chance. Back I go to my PBEM where I just spotted the second one my opponent has....
  15. Thanks for the answer, was hoping for that. I have been playing against an opponent who loves the use of the Big Tigers and have been getting beat, but it's usually just those blasted things that are the difference and I thought I might try some planes to maybe take one out or so to give me an early edge and at least give him something to think about.
  16. I have a quick question, I am rather new to CM and have been playing some PBEM QB games. To the point, I purchased some air support just to see how effective it is when on turn 2 it shows up and over the next few turns this pilot gets down to some shootin' and bombin'. The point is that where the plane is doing its thing, I can't even see over there and I have no idea what he is targeting if anything. So here is the question  - Is air support worth the points and is this pilot actually doing anything and how can i find out?
