Not sure if there was a revision (since BFC doesn't produce comprehensive changelogs) but I have noticed that the shaders in CMFI now look better on my NVIDIA card (with the latest drivers). Lighting effects over surfaces are softer and more pleasing to the eye my eyes.

I was about to think things did not look as detailed. Then i remembered whenever a module is added to check my settings. Sure enough 3D and texture quality was bumped back to mid from the install. So I maxed them out again. Looks great!

Having just purchased CM Normandy's big pack, I jumped in to take a look at the Kriegsmarine formations and I've come to realize that the only commissioned officer present in any formation is the battalion commander, who holds the rank of Ensign. This is very doubtful for me, surely there would be a few more, even for such ragtag formations?

I've done some limited research on Kriegsmarine ranks, and I don't have much of an idea of how they apply to ground forces. Can anyone shed some light on the subject?

Actually Kriegsmarine battalion commander in game is Kapitänleutnant by all appearance, not Ensign according to UI.

I see what you mean. Although there is only one Kriegsmarine company. That guy is commanding a Kampfgruppe containing Security and SS reinforcements. So you would expect someone of higher rank.

I don't think game design allows battalion commanders from different branches to apply leadership over all formations on map. I tried it in the editor. Actually if I know this I would think it was common knowledge. I just assumed if there is a Kampfgruppe commander somewhere, he is in rear with gear as they say.

  4. This was filmed in 1986? And he is still in denial. He stated he was shown films of bodies in Dresden and was told it was from Bergen-Belsem during an interrogation he received sometime from 1945-48. He based his whole denial on that for the remainder of his life. Its entirely possible some amateur film splicing operative after the war mislabelled file footage and sent it to educate these guys. But you think by 1986 he would have figured that out.

I just was alerted this morning by these guys as my email address appeared on a massive database of emails and passwords counting 700+ M entries that was being shared around.

Well that's the perfect recipe to fish-out identity and passwords

  6. I am watching this series called Counterpart. If you like intriguing cold war style espionage mixed with your science fiction. Its not super action packed but it is a very well scripted noir style of spy vs saboteur vs double agent vs assassin type sci-fi thing. The setting is present day Berlin.

Its about A secret UN agency that been based in Berlin for thirty years. The agency oversees a crossing point to a parallel Earth (the "Prime world"), a copy of our world, which was accidentally created by East German scientists during a cold war experiment gone wrong in 1987. The problem is, all the duplicate personalities have experienced 30 years of divergence. The Prime world also experienced a massive plague which they blame as an intentional act by the Alpha world.

    so what u watchin?

    edited for brevity

However, I am horrified how bloody battles are in the game. Whole squads wiped out in a burst of fire. Early on there was mention of how time limits often lead to high casualties as players rush to complete the scenario using brute force. I agree and am neurotically casualty aversive. I will do anything I can to avoid unnecessary loss. This usually means recon by endeavor. I start out with a plan and if it goes south and the casualties mount, I start over. I accept I have cheated by learning enemy dispositions by encounter but in the process usually discover that I have erred in choosing my approach and method.

I would love to have a less bloody battlefield and imagine a better game world where squads hit the dirt with each incoming burst of fire to avoid becoming mincemeat. It would mean more going to ground and defilade and immobilization and less gore but it is only a game and it is what it is. I would like to see a thread about the casualty dimension of the game but I will bet it has been discussed to extinction.

In the end, it is a game (/simulation) and the 'rules' (game design) are the ultimate constraint. Remember scenario designers have the same constraint.

Maybe I think that way a bit for role playing type games when I open up on a shop keeper to get his loot

But it doesn't cross my mind for CM WW2  -Stalin: Not one step back. Hitler:  Fight to the last bullet . Western Allies: Oh look *Omaha beach (sub in Dieppe for Canadians, Dunkirk for you know). I mean this is the time and place the mission came first, mission essential equipment came second, and somewhere down the pole came the general issue soldier. So if I can hasten the end of WW2 by pushing my squadies to attack, rally my broken squads to fire one more bullet, then scrounge a machine gun and run for the objective. I do it for the win!

But I would like a bit more time I don't like being rushed through the carnage.

    Eeeep.....Multi-Post!  :o

Oh well, seeing as I already took up the space:

The issue from my perspective is that any proper discussion of these 'problems' requires some technical knowledge of how the editor works.....It's hard to provide genuinely constructive criticism when you don't understand the parameters at play or what limitations the designer faces.

Ha! It also helps if you know what smeac is. Otherwise you are just fighting over shiny green patches on the ground and you don't know why.

  9. well, I had a panzerfaust team running to a location to get a bead on a tank. It was last ditch suicidal maneuver. To my surprise the guy with the faust stopped mid stride, took aim, fired, killed tank, then continued to his end destination. Is this a new thing? Anyways I was impressed. I just realized you can shoot and scoot infantry AT guys.

Oh yeah, and everything else everybody else said too.
