  1. Common practice was to dismount over the side (Bordwand). This was drilled during training.

Normaly the Panzergrenadiere dismounted over the side which was not exposed to the enemy, leeward. It was noticed that dismounting was a moment of great vulnerarbility and thats why dismounting over the Bordwand was standard as it was much faster for the whole Gruppe than dismounting through the backdoor. But mounting was also noticed as beeing extremely dangerous. During dismount the MG was required to suppress the enemy. But notice that Panzergrenadiere only fought dismounted when there was no other way e.g. Towns, Woods etc. Panzergrenadiere fought as long as possible mounted and as long as necessary dismounted. Thats the main difference to Allied Mechanized troops which prefered to fight dismounted.

  2. The TD doctrine worked fine, when it needed to. The 'problem' was they didn't realise what a paper tiger the German armoured force was.

I´ve read so many books about armored warfare but this is the first time I read that the TD doctrine worked fine.

Heres a Quote from a report of General Lynch after the Tunisia campaign

"The separate TD arm is not a practical concept on the battlefield. Defensive antitank weapons are essentially artillery. Offensively, the weapon to beat a tank is a better tank. Sooner or later the issue between ground forces is settled in an armored battle - tank against tank. The concept of tank destroyer gropus and brigades attempting to overcome equal numbers of hostile tanks is faulty unless the tank destroyer are actually better tanks than those of the enemy."

Taken form Mr. Zalogas excellent book Armored Thunderbolt.

  3. Yep, many of them are plain crap (...sorry to original speakers ;) ). Non german speakers do likely not have an idea anyway and couple of german speakers probably don´t know RL german command language in WW2. So it´s not a problem for maybe 80-90% of CM players.

I´ve couple of german original field regulations from WW2, giving lots of needed info about command language and terms:

Beside helping with info, I´m also musician and hobby audio engineer, so I can do audio recordings and editing with comfort.

Good work, with the wikia page! :) That should ease redoing files considerably. Best to start with the more "comic" or Hollywood style replacement candidates then.

The worst I did hear lately (introduced in 1.01??) is "german chatter 4.wav" (Sie hören). I needed couple of listens to understand what the voice was actually saying. :D ...I guess the original translator meant to say "zuhören!" (listen up!). But then the fine point is to say it more in a command style tone.

But there´s also some well done files, originating from CMX1, which actually do not need beeing replaced.

Hi RockinHarry, when I click the link Iam redirected and when I click the links they seem to be dead.

  4. Just posted a scenario, would be interested in some feedback. US Army CAB takes on Syrian MRB in restrictive terrain.

Also looking for suggestions for next tutorial. Anyone got a problem/issue they would like to see addressed?

How about fighting in a densely wooded area were you cant make use of your support e.g. Bradleys, Abrams. A pure Infantry fight.

  5. Mike, I've spent a considerable amount of time in the first single mission, and have managed to progress quite nicely. But I think I need to sit down and read the manual :)

There is an awful lot to take onboard, and there seems to be a lot of things 'behind the scenes' so to speak working here. I do think (my opinion of course) that the infantry needs some fine-tuning/tweaking, but then this is only a demo, so maybe little things will be adjusted?

Even though the AI seems to take control of 'most' situations quite well, you do need to keep a careful eye on things. For instance, I group moved a squad into a nice position which was under some cover, and the men would remain standing, facing in the wrong direction, once at the destination. I had to singularly select every man, and turn him around, and then put him into ambush mode. That sort of micro-management isn't much fun really, especially when under fire. However, having said that, the squad didn't wander around - they were just 'standing' which was a bit bizarre, but maybe as a result of my orders. I did proceed to lose a few of the squad as a result. If I had move each man individually, maybe this wouldn't have happened. Either way, it's frustrating.

You can let them go prone when you select the Squad and then right click on the posture icon. Then you can choose if they should stand or prone or crouch.

  6. Thx Knokke for these usefull tips. But my problem is not so much offensive. Iam currently playing the Centauro addon and Iam in the 5th or 6th mission. Iam to defend a small village against US forces, Infantry and tanks. My problem is that I can position my Infantry whereever I like but they got sniped by Stuart tanks from up to 800 meters away with the bow MG`s. It doesnt matter if I position them inside buildings or dugouts or in the open, if theyre standing or prone. These tankers must have laserbeams. Iam always wondering how they spot my guys, who are hidden inside buildings, from 800 meters away.
