Attacking from the rear in CM IMO is not as effective as in real life. The only benefit is if you find soft targets, or if you can attack from 2 directions at once.

Every time I have gotten to the enemy's rear, it just turns the battle around. </font>

  2. Do you preffer to concentrate your forces at one place on the map or spread them out? I usually concentrate my troops. Then I can put down more fire at one part of the enemy line and break through faster. And enemy troops on the other side of the map can't fire at my troops.

On the other hand, if you attack the whole map you can flank and surround the enemy. You can also find weak point in the enemy defenses and if you have any reserves/reinforcements you can use them to attack the weak points. If you manage to do that you can get behind the enemy line and hit him from the rear. What do you prefer to do?

Yup, the 2 pounder is a good weapon. It can kill all the Italian crap, all armored cars, halftracks, Marders, and early Panzer3s and 4s. It's also better than the German 37mm. But, for an extra 14 points I'd rather purchase a 6 pounder(57mm) gun instead.

Killing guns is what heavy mortars, howtizers, and artillery FOs are for.

Kind of off topic, but not really. What I think sucks about embarking in CM is the 2 unit limit. Seems stupid to me that you can put a 12 man squad in a truck but you can't embark more than 2 snipers. My 2 cents.

Strongly agreed. Hopefully BFC will come up with a solution for this in CMx2. You might remember to raise this point when/if they begin soliciting ideas for the new game.

  5. I find the 2in mortar a very useful weapon indeed. As mentioned by other people it can kill open top vehicles (10 point mortar killing a 140 point flamethrower halftrack tongue.gif )and put down a quick smoke cover. True, the smoke cover isn't as large or lasts as long as from a 3in or 81mm mortar, but the heavier mortarts can't follow the advancing infantry as fast as the 2in one can. The other use for the 2in mortar (and the 50mm and 60mm ones too) is fighting in scattered trees/woods/tall pines. What you do is this; have a halfsquad go ahead of your main force and spot the enemy, then sneak up a HQ unit (with a short cover arc) to spot for the mortar and blast away at the enemy. Because he's in woods, the treeburst effect reduces greatly the efectivness of foxholes. The enemy panicks or gets pinned down, you move up your infantry, he gets dead.

  6. Yes, it would be cool to have an Elefant with an elephant painted on the side. But let's get real, the tiger stripes are an actuall camouflage that could have been used in combat. The others listed by MikeyD would look cool, but stupid, the tiger stripes would actually fit in the game.

  7. Yup, flanking is a good way to distract the enemy. When fighting on the platoon level (with only one or two platoons at one isolated area of the map) it's good to charge one squad from two sides, after all the enemy can only shoot at one target.

    P.S.

the first hill should take about 10-15 turns to pw3 (is that the right expression?).
I belive that the proper way to say that is "pwn" or "own" ;) lol .
  8. Wouldn't it be cool if the Tiger looked like an actual tiger (the cat). I know that it's probably completly unhistorical but it would look great IMHO. Any moder up for the challenge?

    P.S.

The tiger looking version would be the North African one, how about a European version that looks like the American Vietnam era tiger stripes uniform. And how about a winter version that looks like an albino tiger (white background with black stripes).
