  1. Well, in the end it can be made so that as long as the soldier has a correctly defined skeleton and selections it will work in the game. This can both be fairly easy to implement, or a total nightmare. Depends on how the code is structured from the start, and since I'm not that good at reading crypted code through a hex editor I can't tell :P

Hopefully we'll get modding support for that kind of stuff though. So that even though they don't let us add/modify animations we can at least modify the model mesh.

BFC will not allow modders modify the model mesh - period.

  2. I can open them with Photoshop CS2 on my laptop, so I assume that older PS cant open them for some reason.

What a pain in the ass! I now have to texture on my laptop, transfer to my desktop with installed game to see them ingame

I wish there was a 3D viewer to help 3D artists without having to install the game, start it up, pick forces, wait for it to load,.. etc. Takes me forever to see what models look like in game

  3. M1A1TC,

I just gave your Marines retexture mod a 5. Really beautiful mod I will be keeping on my hard drive from now on.

By the way, you have to change the image you've posted for that mod. The actual mod is way better. Your image doesn't do it justice. For one thing, it doesn't show the green camouflage ammo pouches, and for another you mustn't have had any AA or AF on when you grabbed that screenshot as it's quite jaggy. The mod itself is a masterpiece but some might not download it because the image doesn't really show it properly.

Can you also please explain about the numbering. I wasn't getting helmet 4 at all until I renumbered it to 2. I also don't seem to be getting the alternative M16 texture.

    Thanks a bunch!

My PC cant run this game with AA turned on, even with it off I get 10-15 FPS. I cant really play it proper, so I just do mods for it :)

Ill try to get a better screen somehow, or you can emal one for me, and Ill change it.

The extra textures are just that - extra. You can only have one weapon texture at one time, as far as I know. So if you dont like one, just flip the names, so that the one you like is named "M16"

  4. Looking good! I can't say I've checked the M16A4 model up that close, but wouldn't it be more interesting to model something as large as the forward assist, rather than the knobs on the AN/PEQ-2 (which are large indeed, but are they as important for the model's feel, if trying to be polygon-conservative?)

I also think that the M16 doesn't look... uniform in its texturing. The magazine has very high contrast shadows in the rivets, while the receiver and forward grip of it looks bland, pale and low-contrast in comparison. Not saying one is better than the other, but that it more looks like a collage of different textures rather than one uniform one :)

    Thanks!

I cant change the 3D model of the item, just the textures. So the polygon count stays the same.

As far as uniformity of texturing of magazine, receiver and forward grip - blame BFC :) Its their model, though I am working on improving it. What you see it a work in progress

  5. M1:

That is looking quite good - enhanced without becoming busy. Nice compromise with the goggles too! They are reminiscent of the SG-1 eyewear produced by WileyX. Here's hoping you are able to crack the code in order to make different versions available.

Here are some other miscellaneous points:

    • The dust on the M16A4 is a very nice touch. If you really want bonus points, you could add wear marks around the receiver edges, ACOG, forward assist, etc. where the parkerization has been worn off.
    • Making the pouches woodland pattern is a great detail, good eye.
    • The coloring of the center-carrier magazine pouches is off - perhaps you haven't got that far yet.
    • Frankly, I think the "undershirt," looks fine the way you presented it in the last image despite the color variation.

Keep up the good work, this one is shaping up nicely! I am impressed there are folks like you who are able to selflessly devote so much time to the community. Thank you.

    Thanks for detailed feedback!

I cant really "crack the code", I am just working with the texture and making do with what I got.

Ill work on the M16A4 a little more...I already adjusted the color of the pouches...

    Thanks again!
