It makes for some very nasty surprises. You can do the same thing with pillboxes inside houses.

The other day I was playtesting a scenario with a pillbox in a house. A Sherman rubbled the house and I drove on thinking all was well. My infantry found that all was not well when a very healthy pillbox opened fire on them.

Yes, I've done that too. The tank cannot rotate it is stuck in whatever facing you leave it.

  3. How would all of this affect a scenario that has a historical bias?

I mean I know what the outcome is, that's why I playtest to see if that outcome is capable of happening. If not, I rework it and playtest it again.

Seems to me that most people think that historical scenarios don't work because they are too lopsided. That the Americans won in the original fight and they are going to win in the scenario too.

A good scenario shouldn't be that way. Either historical or fiction. I believe if there is enough data for the fight you can make a historical outcome POSSIBLE fairly easily. Not always but most of the time.

I could tell you about a time when 20 Germans captured 20 American paratroopers without firing a shot but this is not the place...

Anyway I'm going to take a look at your little program and see if it will help me with my scenarios. Thanks at the very least for sharing whether it works for me or not it is bound to work for someone.

  7. All,

I got involved in a discussion here about scenarios using time compression in CM battles. I found a battle that was one hour long and had lots of combat associated with it and turned it into a two battle operation.

The operation covers two 30 minute segments of the battle for the one hour time period. I started out using three 20 minutes battles but that allowed for too much reorganization in my opinion for a single hour.

As it is there is one single reoganization phase. There isn't much in the way of resupply and recovery in a single hour, but you will get to rearrange your units a little for the final push.

You can find this scenario at The Proving Grounds. It's there waiting on your expertise and opinions.

This wouldn't be strange in itself as I know bogging can represent things other than just being stuck in the mud. The weird thing is that I had ordered it to move quickly over an open patch of ground & when it was in the middle of this open patch it bogged down. However it kept going for several meters/feet ( whatever CM's unit of measure is for distances ) - kind of like the Energizer Bunny :D - while showing in the unit info panel that it was bogged. Every other time I've seen a vehicle bog it stops dead in it's tracks/tires.

This is the first time that I've ever seen this happen. Anyone else?

I don't know about the bogging but that HSG scenario is a really good one!! :D

It doesn't hurt that it is mine... ;)

I like that fact that you are playing it again. Thanks for the review you did on the scenario earlier.

Sorry I couldn't resist! I can resist everything but temptation.

  9. Well, that was something to read. :D

I have a few tricks up my own sleeve when it comes to VL's.

You make two flags dynamic. Then put them in the same location, now you can have that location be worth, as much as, 2000 points.

That scenario HSG Easy is on both The Proving Grounds and The Sceanrio Depot. A shameless plug for my own scenario... :D:D

There are also times when you need to use VL's to get the AI to defend properly. I've found small VL's are best for this. There are few times when there will be a single VL on the map.

Again Treeburst that is a very good teaching text. Thanks for the instruction.

  10. The operation is finally being playtested. I decided on two 30 turn battles to cover the one hour fight. Anyone interested in getting a copy of the operation can email me directly.

Once I get it playtested to my satisfaction, I will post it to The Proving Grounds for further playtesting, then post it to the Scenario Depot.

Since you were all instrumental in the background research I have included you in the credits. I would expect it to ready for serious play in about another month or so.

Like I said if you are interested in playtesting it or just looking at it I'll be happy to forward it on to you. Just put Vire in the subject of the email so you don't hit the trash can.

    the winter ones look great

The Scenarios put out by HSG are all new scenarios. There are no remakes in there. We may cover some of the same battles but the ones we are putting out are from scratch. HSG never posted any CMBO scenarios so it was easy for us to make new ones.

CSDT is redoing some of theirs I believe.

Sorry missed the Allied part. Sharing doesn't mean breaking copyright laws. Some info by Email works. You have mine use it anytime.
