  1. Humvee mgs should be able to easily outrange Syrian AKs. The problem is terrain and structures usually conspire to bring the fight VERY close. I recall a document that said in WWII it was advised to keep U.S. halftracks a at least a quarter mile from the battle line. I believe initial-design M1114 armor was proof against an AK round from 100m. The Humvee gunner's going to die if he stays unbuttoned in an up-close fight, which is why he buttons up. The best chance to keep the Humvee gunner unbuttoned is to restrict him to long range firing. Charging into the teeth of the fight is either going to button him up or kill him, or both.

    I'm sorry sir, but I must disagree with your statement. The testing that I ran for my scenario included entrenched enemies at 300-200 Meters ambushing a CAAT Platoon. (This to determine Humvee effectiveness in general) Even though the enemy was 300 meters away, the Humvee gunners buttoned up like scared rabbits, and the crew in the humvees simply watched in fascination as the un-suppressed enemy lobbed RPG's at them until the humvees and crew were dead.

    From what I have discoved in further testing, the Humvees in CMSF are simply not effective in combat at all. It is a vary rare example where the gunner stays with his gun for even a few seconds of incoming fire, even though there is a nice big gun shield for him to hide behind. It is almost as if the gun shield isn't recognized by the game, so the gunner thinks he's unprotected. If that were the case however, gunners still button up far too early for my tastes, even when the vehicle is hull down, or on a ridge and the enemy is slightly below, gunners are like rabbits.

  2. Im tring to set up some 'Generation Kill' type scenarios where you roll in humvees through various situations, but the trouble I'm having is as sonn as enemy opens up, all my humvee gunners turn in and the humvees drive on without any weapons manned.

    Is there a way to force the humvee gunners to stay turned out and man their weapons?

  3. I wouldn't trust any numbers on reported K.O.s, I'm reminded of one battle in the Pacific that had more than a hundred Japanese tank kills reported by infantry while there were only a dozen Japanese tanks on the island :)

    Well, if 10 guys attack one tank and kill it, all 10 guys are going to say they killed one tank. Outside observer would think they each killed 1 tank seperately, and assume there were 10 tanks.

    It's like beer math.

    Now on topic, 75% of my fired ATGM are usually aimed at buildings or reverse slope infantry targets. So with reports of numbers of ATGM's used/fired, how many were actually fired at tanks and armored vehicles? I think not so many.

  4. My hard drive got fragged, I had to buy a new one and do a fresh install of windows.

    Now I am trying to re-install CMSF, but I no longer have my elicense number.

    Due to the situation, I am not able to unlicense my previous install of CMSF.

    Where can I get a new one?

  5. I'm trying to record a CMSF movie, but when I record with FRAPS, I get no audio.

    I have a sound mod, but I don't think that's what the problem is.

    Can anyone suggest any better capture software?

    If the sound mod is the problem, should I use rezpack to pack mods into the data folder?

    Some help, anyone?

  6. I also saw this type of effect from the Mk19's on one of my strykers. It doesn't happen often enough for me to care too much. I saw it happen twice in a 1 hour battle, company size on both sides.

    It looks to me like the game is taking what would be several shots fired in succession and plotting them simultaneously. Thus creating the 'shotgun' type effect.

  7. Posted this in another thread, but might as well post it here. I think we have far too many of the things in the game right now:

    I agree, I think the Marine Squad leader should have one M32, thus there should only be one M32 in a whole squad. I do appreciate the extra firepower in the game, but one thing I wondered while watching my pixel marines unload with those M32's is: "Who's carrying all of that ammo?" 40mm isn't exactly a small round, and it seems like the squad is carrying upwards of 100 40mm rounds, because they were shooting them while assaulting for a good ten minutes continuously.

    Edit: That idea of having it as an 'acquire' item is really good.

  8. Virtual punishment battalions... ah... sounds like an idea for CM: Eastern Front :)

    Steve

    Artillery and Engineers cost money. Human wave attack by conscripts to clear minefields cost nothing. ;) Maybe we could also get Conscripts that only every other man has a rifle, and you have to use buddy aid on dead soldiers to arm the rest of your men.

  9. @Sergei:

    Patch 1.2 contains my new glasses?

    @Bergerbitz:

    Thanks for the suggestions. I was poking around CMMODS and I saw the sound mod, I will give it a try. I do love my beloved immersion. Also, don't forget to keep an empty soda cup next to desk at all times!

    @Meach:

    Roger that! I've been poking around CMMODS for a few days already.

    @MeatEtr:

    HELLO!

  10. I just bought the Shock Force bundle pack a week ago.

    I upgraded to v1.11.

    I opened it up and started playing at 8pm.

    The next thing I knew, it was 8am, light outside, and I was late for school.

    I also just noticed I had a splitting headache from staring at the computer screen.

    I think my social life has just ended.

    Permanently.

    THANK YOU!!
