Boy it’s unusually quiet in here. I must be doing something wrong.

It's much easier, and far more fun to read these when each panel of the comic is not separated from each other by ten comments about how great everything is.

Just take it as read that dead silence means we are enjoying the proceedings enough to not disturb the pacing and tension of the story.

Yeah, I remember the first time my pixel troops fought from inside their Bren carrier. I was so amazed I don't know how many times I watched the action unfold. To this day it is still one of my favourite things to see in the game. I especially love it when the do it on their own. Note half tracks are cool too but the Bren carriers are still my favourites.

Way back during the road to montebourg, I had a split infantry team steal the XO's jeep to get back over to their buddies down a road.

While driving, they spotted a German team close beside the road in a hedge. Every single passenger in the jeep stood up and began blazing away.

    That was awesome.

I think this is a result of the enemy using TRPs. They clearly have one near the woods opposite the town but do not have them in the woods on the hill at KT3.

Any time the scenario briefing includes the words, "The enemy has had time to prepare his defenses," or somesuch one should assume there are TRP's straddling any obvious approach routes, or atop any key terrain. While it may be a bit cold-blooded, one can try to provoke an enemy barrage by moving a few split teams into a likely area, and seeing if they draw artillery fire without risking a larger formation.

I am all in favor of having the enemy waste precious ammo on a single squad split into teams, then having them whack an entire platoon.

My only guess would be not allow taking SMG´s for "balancing" reasons since at close ranges these are the most deadly firearms. Got to watch out for any possible Sturmgewehr 44 restrictions as well.

I dunno. When you watch a guy burn through an entire magazine by shooting it into the dirt six feet to the right of a prone enemy soldier in the middle of open ground one or two action spots away, your opinion of the "dakka dakka" types will change dramatically.

It's why I came to love the M1 Garand so much. The rifle guys rarely miss a shot at 16 meters distance.

Steve once mentioned he prefers to play RT. I prefer to play RT. RT is there for people who like to play as an 'interactive war movie'. as opposed to a '3-D animated board game'. If you're on the chat board reminiscing about ASL you're probably a '3-D animated board game' type. ;)

If it's an interactive war movie you're looking for, then playing WEGO with the ability to really get up close and personal with the camera, and also watch cool action on instant replay should be the motivating factor. Your statement here doesn't make sense.

Be honest. Playing in realtime mode requires you to separate yourself from the minute detail to maintain overall situational awareness.
Unless you prefer playing with little more than a platoon at a time.

Everyone I see who records gameplay in real time is forced to remain in a birds-eye view, with maybe a brief zoom into a key piece of action before being forced to zoom back out to maintain awareness. If your idea of an interactive war movie is to watch unit icons march across a field, maybe you are the one looking for an animated 3d board game.

IIRC - game also simulates guns may also be non-functioning if owner was hit.  But, again IIRC SMG's are never picked up.  Has anyone had an SMG picked up during buddy aid?

I buddy aid everyone, everywhere, every time, and I do not recall a soldier acquiring an SMG at any time.
Strange, I guess I just didn't notice until you mentioned it.

Then again, when the SMG carrying soldier gets hit, the "stockpile" of SMG ammo he carried disappears from the squad's inventory, so the SMG itself may be deprioritized by the buddy aid system as being "inappropriate". While soldiers do pick up ammo, it is usually a very small amount, so even if they would pick up an SMG from a dead guy, they likely would only have a mag or two to use, which is essentially worthless.

However, the opposite of the equation is true, I HAVE seen a guy armed with an SMG pick up a rifle and use it when his SMG ran out of ammo.

When one person says something to another person, then they in turn say something to another, and so on. By the last person, the result is a tangle of the original.

A fun game, but ultimately meaningless.

On the contrary, I do believe the purpose is to teach people not to rely on hearsay information.

A valuable lesson in any age.

Also, my own +1 on getting rid of real-time play.
It seems to add no value to the simulation whatsoever from my own observations of Let's Play's involving real time play, and even artificially reduces the situational awareness of the player.
To me, the core value of the game is the ability to observe, analyze, and interpret. It's not just about flashing lights and fancy sounds.

If you are going to make a game, make a game.
If you are going to simulate, then simulate.

  8. If I have a platoon of tanks and a platoon of pc's, two tanks lead the column, while two tanks trail the column.

If I have scouts, the scouts lead with one tank attached, while the main column stays a ways behind.

If my force is mostly tanks with just a platoon of infantry for support, I lead with tanks in all situations in at least platoon strength.

If it's more like a company of infantry with an attached tank platoon, I usually lead with the tank platoon followed by either mounted or dismounted infantry platoon except in areas where enemy AT assets are likely to be present, in which case I'll lead with a dismounted infantry platoon, and have the tanks stay one or two steps behind as support.

You almost NEVER want to lead your column with mounted infantry unless speed is the sole factor behind your movement. Infantry mounted in pc's or riding tanks are far too vulnerable to literally anything the enemy might have. In fact, I would never have infantry ride tanks unless it was a completely safe environment, and I would dismount at even the first whiff of anything larger than a pistol pointed my way.

I really need to get around to making that "Quick Guide to Mechanized and Armored Infantry" video.
