  1. I give up,im either going to have to hire somone to write these things for me,or try in vain to find the answers my damn self.
  2. Thank you,now may i have an explanation for ME's?You gave a definition of ME,which i already knew. Also,a probe is of equal strength, but one is an attacker and the VFL's are closer to the defender. Now,one more time,in the only venue where both combatants almost have to use maneuver, why the difference in points?
  3. In the fairness of sportsmanship, why in a 1000 point ME would the russians get 400+ points for armor, while the germans get 200+ points? This was in October of 1942,and i dont want to hear "thats the way it really was",this is a game.It isnt fun,nor fair to have a StuG IIIF/8 and a Panzer IIIJ,versus three T-34 M43 and one of the KV-1's.Could my armor selection have been better?Maybe.Would it have mattered against such odds?I doubt it.So please, enlighten me as to how this is fair for a GAME .Albeit the best game ive ever played. Ps, Yes,this is a whine, and quite frankly, regardless of what you say, this situation isnt fair.A ME,is supposed to be about maneuver, and good tactics.NOT,lets make it realistic so that,as history records it,the german player will lose in most cases. 4. Fionn, Wow,that sounds daunting,i cant imagine being in an engagement of that size.I too am interested in how you plot your orders each turn, and if you could, please include what your force composition is.How much armor do you have,infantry..etc.. {EDIT to add another question} How do you plan on defeating your enemy with a significantly smaller force?Again,as many details a possible please Thanks [ March 11, 2003, 11:10 AM: Message edited by: nevermind ]
  5. That is very true, but the more categories you have, the more people you will have that pretty much fit into one or the other. If nothing else,it could be fairly close, even if there were only 5 categories.I being a #4 know i wouldnt want to play someone that was a 1 or 2,or in between. If they arent in one group, but inbetween,i could still see if their idea of "gamey" significantly differ from mine. 6. Yeah,i know what they are,im not new,but there has to be a more simple way of doing this. Some of you have been around awhile, and you have a long list of friends that you play, what about the rest of us? My idea(and yes i know it wont work,or be adopted),what if we all used a numbering system?Like from this site HERE I,for example, would be a # 4,i could then simply add the # 4 to my sig, then everyone would know before having to respond to a "game wanted" post on the player finder forum. What does anyone/everyone think? 7. Ok,ive read all that there is to read about gamey tactics. So,my question is,what rules do most people go by?You look for a game on the player finder forums, and for the most part, there is no mention as to exact gamey rules of engagement. Is it the duty of the poster to state what his/her rules on gamey play is,or is it up to the challenge taker?I have played several tcp/ip games as well as some pbem's,and it has never really come up.I have had,on occasion, some things that i thought were overboard done to me(not sure if they were gamey or not though),but i didnt say anything,i finished the game(surrender),but never plan on playing that person again. If at the end of a game, someone just leaves,is that a sign that they dont approve of your play?Is it customary to click "look at map" and say your "good games"?I always do,win, lose or draw. So,i ask you,all of you,any of you, answer any/all of these questions, please. [ March 10, 2003, 10:01 PM: Message edited by: nevermind ]
  8. Yes there are.The ones done by Captain Wacky at CMMODS are for CMBB.There are also some done for CMBO,like the one done by Strontium Dog,but i am only sure his mudd/grass gridded one works for BB,not the others.I am using his for the summer grass(?),and i am also using Captain Wackys' for the other types. 9. No,now that you bring it up,i was wrong.I shouldnt have defended a modder(one of only a few that are still doing working in BO)whos effort for us,or that he was sharing with us,was called "gamey",because it isnt.Based on your definition,it is unfair, since anything "gamey" has to do with actual game play.Buying a herd of M8 HMC's and blitzing someones defense is,or could be called "gamey",because it actually affects game play.Using the assault boats on a map with no water to draw the enemies fire,or any of the other known game bugs is,or could be called gamey.Detailed armor hits,at the very worst, are unfair, especially since they are built into the game. So, i guess i should have corrected the other posters about their error in the definition of what is gamey and what is unfair. Then again, what is unfair?Something that someone has that his opponent doesnt, that gives him a edge?Sounds unfair to me,but wait, arent gridded terrains and detailed armor hits available to everyone?Isnt it true that what you see on the screen isnt an exact graphical represention of what is really there?Isnt it true, that in reality you could see for yourself,or look at a topographical map,and know what the lay of the land was like?Hmmm,oh well,im confused as always.Perhaps someone will come along to elighten me. Ultimately,Louie the Toad,i mean no offense by this, nor do i want to get into a debate on it,i just didnt want people making comments about someones work, when that someone doesnt even have to share what he has done.Im sure there are some people that use them that dont even play multiplayer.Truthfully,i didnt even want to respond to your post, and if it werent for the "educating" manner in which it was done i wouldnt have.Especially when it boils down to being a difference of opinion. 10. DD, I believe that Captain Wacky has a hi-res gridded grass at CMMODS.If it isnt hi-res then i have no idea why it is alomst 10mb in size. Also Strontium Dog has a CMBO and CMBB compatible version of grass and mud with grids,my personal fave. {EDIT TO ADD PS} I could swear that once i downloaded a mod from a dave dial.I think it was for CMBO,but not sure. Now im confused, how many DD's are there? 11. I say to get any and all the sound mods from CMMODS that you can.Sample them in window media player, and select the ones you like the most. You may need to get a mp3 to .wav file converter, but there are free ones that are easy to use.You can even take some of those, and with the windows sound recorder you can amp up or lower the sounds. It may make it less realistic, but i prefer the "hollywood sounds".For me personally,i dont need graphical mods right now,as compared to CMBO(which i still play)CMBB gives me plenty of "eye candy".However that has not stopped me from getting them [ March 07, 2003, 02:16 PM: Message edited by: nevermind ]
  12. Yep,put it in your scenario folder.Welcome to the game, the board etc.. Ill let someone else answer about the mods.
  13. illo, Great picture!I thought it was a tank with a turret, but i guess me mind is slippin. I couldnt agree more,we have the great fire suppresion model, and realistic fatigue and such, now i hope this is the next step.If my cpu cant handle the calculations required to simulate varying degrees of hull down, then its time to upgrade I was wondering, did it say if that Nashorn was in a prepared position,or did the lucky bastards find the perfect lil hill?Along these lines,CMBB now lets you set fall back foxholes. In the next CM,i would like to be able to set up prepared fall back "hull down" postions.By "prepared",i mean dug out, smoothed out ground that a tank could drive into and then be almost completely hull down to certain areas on the map.Im not sure what that might be called,or is that simply what a tank being dug in means?Anyone know this?Anyone think this would be possible in the next CM,or worth the trouble? If the next CM is going to take place, atleast in part,in N.Africa,i would think this feature to be vital to the AFV engagements, since for the most part its a open, flat desert.I really would love to see this.
  14. That is an odd situation, ive never seen em inside like that. Get to work on that brown garden!
  15. I apreciate the offer, but theres no need to mail, was a passing fancy.About the yahoo breifcase,I think that would work, but they have a limit on maximum number of "views" or something. If you left it up for any length of time it would get temporarily shut down due to over use. Good luck with the FT's
  16. hakstooy, Read aka_tom_ws' sig.In the last part you will see how BTS/BFC views this game.Unless i am wrong, and i dont like making assumtions,"badass enough",isnt enough. As to your other point of micro management,if i could(even if it took hours)get a tank into a perfect hull down with nothing but its turret showing, you had better believe i would.I put alot of time and planning into PBEM's and if it were possible,i would love it.Come to think of it,after awhile, its the planning that is the most rewarding.Sure its great fun to slug it out,but watching an enemy platoon march blindly into a well thought out, well planned ambush is even more so Oh how those little dudes run as you are cutting them down
  17. The real question, does CM currently model partial "hull down"?In real life there are varying degree's of hull down(or hull obscurity),i even saw a pic posted in these forums somewhere, that showed a tank with nothing but it turret visible from over a ridge(complete hull down).I know BB is using a revived BO engine,so it has its limits, but does it do this,or does it just assume that if a tank isnt completely hull down, then it isnt at all? To me the term "hull down" should indicate a complete defilade of the tanks hull.My guess is that a partial hull down in CM isnt currently possible. That being said,in the next CM,i think this should be an added feature.Varying degrees of hull down,it would take alot of coding, and my not even be possible. However,if you want to obtain that unobtainable goal of the perfect war game simulation,i would think that this would be a step in that direction.
  18. That makes no sense, both tanks are "hull down" to each other. It doesnt matter which way the KV is facing as long as its hull is "hull down".Meaning that both tanks hulls' arent visible to the other.
  19. I do not know the answer to this,i could throw some assumptions/guesses at it,but wont.I was wondering though,if you could post a screen shot?I would love to see this
  20. I suspect the answer to this to be no,but i'll check to make sure.I recently setup a PBEM,and in my haste i made a typo in my password.I tried to guess what i did wrong(cause i know it was a simple matter of hitting two keys at once)but couldnt. The game in question is CMBO,but i guess this applies to either. Is there anyway to retrive your password?Like from the opening setup turn, before you even send it to the other player. Any help appreciated! {edited for typo, though it is almost habit now } [ March 06, 2003, 09:02 AM: Message edited by: nevermind ]
