  1. Feb. 1940: Heavy air fights between Germany and French/British units. No advances for Axis at the French/Lowland border. Some small Italian attacks in the south of French causes some damages to the Italian units. Allied leaders declare in Paris that they will never give up France. 2. Axis declare war on Denmark and Italy declares war on Allies. Not much advances for Axis against France. France is heavily defended. [ January 14, 2003, 06:48 PM: Message edited by: Sven1969 ]
  3. Heavy losses in Poland for Allies and Axis reinforcements arrive in Brussels. [ January 14, 2003, 06:12 PM: Message edited by: Sven1969 ]
  4. First turn France attacks lowlands. Fight in Poland is heavy.
  5. We start the game with a 120 MPP bid from Wachtmeister, he takes Axis. [ January 14, 2003, 06:04 PM: Message edited by: Sven1969 ]
  6. I personally would start investing in research after France is captured. Before you should invest every "Reichsmark" in air fleets. With 4 or 5 air fleets you can destroy at least one or two ir fleets of England. And that is the first stept to get France. I directed two carriers to the Lowlands/Baltic sea. I know that the losses in the Mediteranian Sea are higher with 5 ships and one carrier but I thought I can destroy the Italian fleet without completly lossing one ship. The Italian fleet normally comes close enough to the air fleet in Malta. If you engage the Italian fleet Italy does not have enough MPPs left for buying land units or it will loose the entire fleet. Sven
  7. I had two air fleets, one corps and three ships covering England. And some reinforcements were just arriving so Germany had no chance to attack England. I got enough MPPs to buy a chorps each turn and the German fleet was damaged. Sven
  8. The Allis fleet was really damaged but one carrier was repaired and another was reinforced to strength 7. I think one German air fleet was lost right before the connection was lost. That hits the Axis hard because no Allied ai fleet was lost. If an Allied player plays smart you will loose your feelt for sure. You can only make a blockade to defend the bBaltic sea. That helps you to attack Sweden. There is one hex between Danemark and Sweden which can be defended by one ship. If this is damaged another German ship can defend the hex until the first is repaired. The Italian fleet is almost lost if the Allies are going for it. This hits you hard in my opinion. But most important for Axis is to capture Paris as early as possible. To destroy this strategy Allies should declare war on Lowlands which avoids any MPPs from plundering for Axis even if France cannot get the Lowlands. You have two possibilities. As Axis you can attack through Italy or you can attack a special hex south-east of Brussels with all your units. Or you go for Norway and Sweden with some units after getting Poland. I would go for Norway and Sweden and with this points I would buy a new air fleet to attack France. You also get more MPPs a turn with this countries. Sven
  9. I read about it in the greatest German pc game magazin, downloaded the demo and bought it. Sven
  10. Dear Kuniworth, it wasn't that bad. In my first game against an human I was much worser than you. I think you were pretty good. Sure you had some problems to capture France early but you still could win the game. The Allies had not much MPPs left. I enjoyed the game very much and I learned a lot. Thank you for the game. Sven
  11. It was a big mistake to have three units in southern France but not one unit to cover Marseille. The only answer to German attack on Marseille was a counterattack with two units, without much success. [ January 11, 2003, 08:57 PM: Message edited by: Sven1969 ]
  12. Thanks Jersy for your fair wishes I prefer taking the Axis but I think it is easier to win as Allies. If you learned your lessons from WW2 you can win as either side. Kuniworth was a good enemy. Sven [ January 11, 2003, 08:41 PM: Message edited by: Sven1969 ]
  13. The bombing was really unimportant in WW2. It killed a lots of civilians but it did not decide the war. Either the V-2 or the British/American bombers decided the war. Germany reached it greatest production capacity and it greatest research progress near the end of the war! Do not forget a few months before end of the war Germany build the first manned rocket plane (Natter). The problem was the lack of soldiers especially skilled soldiers because too many were killed especially in Russia. So I think the game is well balanced and historcal in this point. You can kill some resources/people with strategic bombing in this game but it will far from deciding it with strategic bombing. I personally think it was a terrible mistake to start civilian bombing in WW1. In WW2 so many millions died because of this bombing and it did not shortened the war! Germany was defended until Russian troops arrived at the "Reichskanzlei" of Adolf Hitler. The Reichskanzlei was defended by French, Danish and other foreign soldiers. SO I think in this point the game is very historic and well balanced. Sven
  14. I vote for c. But of course this is not easy to realize. I like SC very much even because it is not a 100% historic simulation. A worldwide playground would be a fantastic strategic challenge. Just imagine as the Germans you could invest heavy in you fleet and invade South-America. Or Japan do not declares war on the USA but supports the German efforts to gain naval superiority. Sven
  15. Why not there: Opponent Finder Forum You can find a lots of requests of games there. I found a dozen opponents for PBEM and TCP/Ip games there. Sven
  16. Nice to know that in 10.000 games I should statistically get X advances but who has enough time to play 10.000 games? I work in the research area and I know that often there are unexspected breakthroughs and long periods without much advances. But I think the random factor in SC is to great. You should ensure that there is an advance e.g. all 20 turns for one reseach point. The research points are very expensive with patch 1.06. I think too expensive. Just in TCP/IP games you often see an early decision and I experienced in my TCP/IP games research becomes only important in long games. With patch 1.05 research was always more important. If you change the research system I would suggest that you get first research success faster and cheaper. The highest level should be much more difficult to reach, perhaps only if you invest 4 or 5 points in this field of research. So research becomes more important also in the shorter games which ends and it is also more realistic. With an minimum investement in a research field you never reach the highest knowledge. So please not too much statistics. If you have always bad luck in one game it can destroy the fun. And this is the reason why we play. The statistics must work in ONE game then it is a good game design. Sven
  17. In the christmas tournament most of the games were won by Allies. In all of my games I found it easier to win as Allies. Why alsways this "wining" about the advantage of Axis? Every side needs a complete different strategy. I think the game is well balanced. You can win on both sides. Sven
  18. Units in cities are not easy to destroy. Just try to lower the fortification level with planes or rockets to zero before attacking with groud units. Ships are also good for reducing fortifation at coastel cities. Ever attack with units with hich readiness und supply level, they must be assigned to a HQ (just make a click on the HQs around and the highlighted units are assigned to this HQ). Use you second strogest unit first, than weaker units and last you strongest unit. Have a unit (including a HQ!) in reach to capture the city when the unit is destroyed. Never attack from river hexes if possible, you attack strength is halved. Experience of units and HQs is very important. I personally would not attack with strength 5 units because they can be lost. In all other points I agree GumbyDude 100%. At the beginning of the game you have to be fast as Axis. But later BE PATIENT!. Cover you flanks, habe backup units and a secure flat frontline. Reinforcing is much cheaper as building a new unit (one half the cost per strength). So destroy units if possible and be patient. When you are near Moskow or take Moskow Russia will receive reinforcements if war in Siberia is not checked in the options. Sven
  19. Hey the Axis have whole Europe except England, Ireland and Finland and two Russians cities and parts of Turkey and parts of north Africa. Two Russian cities are also direct at the frontline. As I remember the Germans were in trouble in real Summer 1944. And yes I was too slow in France and made mistakes but right now in 1944 I am pretty much happy with the situation. If you do not believe me that I get nearly 800 MPPs you can continue the game. Sven
  20. That hurts you much Your attack in Spain and France at the beginning of 1943 caused me headache ut luckily your troops retreated after some losses. I think you better had fighted it out. Now in Summer 1944 with nearly 800 MPPs for Axis and lots of very experienced troops and 15 air fleets the war is lost for Allies. It will take time to conquer Russia and Turkey but you saw I do not loose any units there in opposite to Russia/USA who are loosing units every round. Sven
  21. I think the game becomes more interesting through such possibilities like the Dutch gambit. I would like to see more freedom for the player in this game like the possibility to invade Italy as Germany. Which happen really later in WW2. But ahistoric situation should cause some disadvantage for the attacking country. But the war readiness alone is perhaps not the right punishment. Sven
  22. Two weeks ago I would agree but not after some games I think both sides have similar strength. The game is balanced very well. On each side your strategy is very different. As the Allies you can play the Dutch gambit and hold France until Russia enters war. Without France and England Germany normally will fall. Or you can abandon France early so save your troops and make a counter offensive with US andd English troops when Germany concentrates their troops in the east. You are absolutly right! Sven
