  1. Let one of the major factors of airpower, that being interdiction be the real strength. In playing the Longest Day it was a major thorn in the side of the Germans attempting to move their panzers forward to strike.
  2. Might as well mandate that the axis has to lose in April '45 as well while your at it.
  3. Burn him .... burrnnn him. (Quick, someone post the Monty Python Pic)
  4. wlweir (allies) concedes to Liam (axis) from a game never completed some time ago. Sorry Liam, I was out of the country for a wee bit of a walk-about.

  6. Codename Condor wins (axis) vs wlweir (allies) bid 150.
  7. wlweir signs in... aka Private Cannon Fodder! (Guaranteed* to bump you up 4 spaces). *This only applies on Tuesdays, and if its raining north of the 73 parallel. And dark. And no way reflects the views of the host, or the non-host, or any other persons for that matter. [ January 19, 2003, 06:35 PM: Message edited by: wlweir ]
  8. I had to... 1. Reinstall SC V1.0 2. Install GUI mod. 3. Install V 1.06 4. Install sprite mods. In that order. If I upgraded from 1 to 1.6 first then the gui mod I got the same error as you. The key is the sequence of installation.
  9. Is there a chat command for TCP play, or do you have to use a third party program?
  10. The axis take poland in a defensive measure with mild delay. England and France, dispite assurances from the Fuerer declare war. Forced to wage a defensive war the german army surges forward. Denmark falls, and the low countries fall in classic blitzkreig in one turn. The combined French and British med fleets fight the Italian navy to a standstill. No clear victor. France gives a good defense but is eventually routed with the german army flanking them on the south of paris. Operation Sealion begins immediately after the fall of France with 5 L11 german airfleets. Fatal hesitation on Fieldmarshall Bock's commitment to see it through delays the second wave of invaders. The Luftwaffe performs admirally smashing holes in the UK home defense force. But without ground support from the second wave it grinds to a halt. German troops can see Downing street and Buckingham Palace. It's the last sight they will see. Even a diversionary Italian invasion on Canada does not pause the stoic defense of the Green and Pleasant land. The Soviet Bear forgets its non-aggression pact with there allies in Berlin and seizes the opportunity to expand bolshevism, launching tentative attacks against a poorly defended German east front. After all, Molotov said it would not happen, so why would we have to defend our eastern borders. Hitler "reassigns" Bock. He never makes it back to Germany. Outraged german generals stage a military coup and remove Hitler. Facing a grueling war of attrition on the east front, the rumblings in America, and the best german blood spent on the shores of England the new military leaders begin peace negotiations with the west to contain the communist hordes.
  11. I defend France with french units only.Moderately supporting them with the RAF based in England. Too hard to make a Dunkirk happen and get British units out. Leaving England weak, waiting for SeaLion. Defend, defend, defend and reinforce. When the line is broke and can't be easily mended, abandon the maginot and fall back to Paris. This will let you survive another 2-3 turns. Any MPP's that are not use to reinforce at that point I spend on Corps that are immediately evacuated to Britain. As Paris is usually surrounded by this time using the corps to suicide attacks is pointless. The only attacks I usually have the French do is ramming the fleet against either the Italians, or the strait of Denmark.
  12. I remember that well! I was wondering how many Airfleets and Armies it had to take to kill an inexperienced corps.
  13. Cheers to you! Well fought. I'll check my schedule and compare it to the opponent finder. Not sure if I'll be available tomorrow, but I'm sure we will meet on the battlefield again.
  14. Sven it was I who you played. I thing if you had of hit England with a few more transports it would have worked. The defenses there were stretched to the limit. Also if you concetrated the luftwaffe you could have cleared the beachs. Gamey? Not sure. I think it was Rommel who said "stop them at the beaches for once ashore they cannot be contained" The entry of Russia surely was a sore in the axis side, with axis air and ground forces deployed in Sweden and France (SeaLion). It would have been an interesting game had it continued. The loss of the Royal Navy was tragic. But the gallant boys did their job. Destroying the bulk of the Italian Navy. I wasn't expecting the massive sub deployment as the med. fleet headed North to defend against SeaLion. Thanks for the game Sven, it was my first go against a human. btw, how do you chat in tcp mode? 15. Solved the problem. 1. Reinstalled V1.0 2. Added GUI mod. 3. Added V1.06 patch. Works fine now. Thanks for the sugestions.
  16. Did not the British attack elements of the French Navy at anchor in North Africa so that they would not fall into axis hands?
  17. I unzipped the contents to the "bitmap" folder and now get "Unspecified Errors, could not launch Strategic Command. Program Terminated" I have 1.06. Any suggestions?
  18. I remember 3rd Reich board game fondly. Yet as you with a bit of a shudder. Combat was easily reduced to number crunching. Latter on we decided you were not allowed to spend time adding up odds. If you did you had to make the attack regardless. Speeded it up, and added some good twists. I remember once while playing the germans, my russian opponent commenced with 1-1 attacks from Lenigrad to the Black Sea with disasterous results for himslef. He decided all was lost in a matter of time and decided to gamble. Ah, the memories, I could see clearly all the way to Moscow!
