  1. That is 120,000 words also counting some of the manual, eh? Can the interface alone have 120,000 words that need expert translation?
  2. @ walker: Aye, I, for example, would do the translation for free or for little. Just a handful of hours or even less for the interface. English is one of the few things I'm da bomb at (playing CM not another )being at least a certified English<->German translator for the Army.
  3. @redwolf: 1. How else could I obtain a legal copy here in Vienna? Suggestions highly welcome since I'm gonna buy BB also and would prefer the US version. 2. How could strong sales of the CDV-version hurt Battlefront? My assumption is that it would strengthen their position along the line of "... look, you sould soandsomany copies of the first installment and now you want to pay us only ..."
  4. As noted in a recent thread before, the CDV version has a translation bug that at least for me caused a lot of confusion. Beyond a Marder, Lynx and a Puma are hull down towards an Allied gun. An what does the game say instead of 'hull down' ("Wanne verdeckt" or sumpin along that line), is display WANNE KAPUTT = hull destoryed. Pah, CDV. They got not the least bit of a grip on military English.
  5. Flame weapons, land mines et al. is a relatively new development in international law. Whiney Euro countries like mine signed treaties 2 or 3 years ago that ban AP-mines, incendiary agents n stuff. The US never joined this treaty. My country (Austria) did away with AP-mines and phosphor-grenades. The claymore-type of weapon we have has been renamed into "Directed Shrapnel Charge" to fit those contracts and now has to be 'fired' by a friendly soldier who gives a tug on the wire or detonates it electrically as he sees the enemy coming. Also, the makeshift grenade-traps (ya know, the handgrenade and the wire to it) are removed from training. Instead of phosphor as smoke for arty and mortars we now use HC-fog grenades that do no harm and are crappy as everyone and his grammy can see through it with an infrared device. Conclusion: In WWII these weapons were not banned and the US never joined those treaties anyhow (which is a good thing IMHO, since there's no nice way of killing somebody. Still waiting for the day when I get handed a net-firing device instead of an AUG upon reporting for an exercise ).
  6. Cause the Puma's turret was also traversed by hand. -> http://www.wwiivehicles.com/html/germany/sdKfz234.html
  7. Oh, they weren't nice to our two anti-industry-establishment battlefront-heroes? Schweinepriester I get it - English ain't my first language either, but German is.
  8. Aye, they're pretty ****ty judging from their assortment (Wet Attack, Sudden Strike, ...), but info about financial troubles of CDV would be new to me.
  9. Done all of that. Brought light mortars on them to force the hatches closed. That's why I grew irritated. However, there seems to be a more subtle problem. I got the CDV version of the game (i.e. German language). It says "Wanne kaputt" (= hull destroyed) when it should say "Teilverdeckte Stellung" (= hull down; hull partly covered). I got the game for about a month now and have been wondering about all those tanks driving around with hulls kaputt That's why I was indifferent towards hull down positions.
  10. Found out what I did wrong by playtesting. Am still a newbie - it seems. Got much better results paying attention to hull down positions. Used bocage to great advance and killed 3 reg Sherms out of a dozen strong horde with a single conscript IVG without losing it. Found that shoot-and-scoot behind a hedgerow works good for me.
  11. Range: 1.000m and up; my crews are a mixture ranging from conscripts to experts; GB/CAN crews are mostly regulars. Sherms are IIs, M4s and Vs.
  12. I'm playing the player-made "Bloody Buron" op as the German player (Panzer-Meyer). Got lots of Pz IVs, but they get slaughtered by the Brit/Canuck Sherms (and occasional Wolverines) by a rate of about 1:2. Is this just the way it goes cause the Sherman is superior? I think, tactically, I'm not making too many mistakes. My Pz IVs share LOS, I'm getting the Sherms from the side, but they just fire back and BOOM. There goes my Nazi-tank. The higher the distance, the worse I do.
  13. My (limited) actual experience on things military is that I've been drafted into an European army and served as a machine gunner (for the MG74 - which is an improved MG42). In later years I concluded training for what would be the Coy-Sgt. in the US-Army. We still use the US .50cal on some tanks and one pod-supported variant per infantry platoon. The way we've been taught to employ it, it is to be used against lightly-armored targets such as APCs. Against infantry it better remains hidden and in ambush for suitable vehicular-targets. Typically, they'd employ it on the fringe of a U-shaped ambush so it gets side-shots on armor. Little use against infantry, cause it is too inaccurate and has the be re-adjusted after every garb.
  14. It doesn't matter how many battles and scenarios are on the disk. There are more than you'll ever have time to play @ the scenario depot: http://ns9.super-hosts.com/~dragonlair.net/combatmission/ A 'battle' in CM is a onetime affair of some 25 to 40 turns. 'Scenarios' are a string of linked battles (dynamic damage on maps and losses that affect your forcepool) all on the same huuuuge map. The outcome of the last battle decides which ground you control at the beginning of the next. And there are tons of cool user-made scenarios out there
  15. I've been a longtime CC-player (since 3) and publisher of data-(sub)-mods for CC5, but when I downloaded the CMBO demo, I was hit by a truck. Don't play anything else than CMBO for weeks. Should've gone for the bundle. Much more military detail to the game (target reference points, controllable offboard arty, infantry can embark vehicles ...). Everything CC gamers always dreamed about. BUY!
  16. Is there a prob if someone with a German version of the game plays against a guy who has the US-version? Question regards CMBO. Generally, is TCP/IP stability an issue with CMBO/CMBB? Game crashes spoiled CC for me (despite that the AI is no good).
  17. Prob is some guys just can't lose. They're all over the place as long as they're winning, but once I adjust to their tactics and maul them in two consequent battles they run off leaving lame excuses or none at all. (Talking about CC; only ordered CMBO yet but looking forward to it. More flesh on it militarily IMHO)
  18. I 'stick' with CMBO. Just ordered it after having checked out the demo. BB won't run on my machine. Where's a good place to find H2H opponents?
