what?  that's it?? that's all the Dead Puritan has?  No obscure 80s UK music thing we don't understand?  No obscure UK history thing we don't understand?  No references to other UK things we can't even categorize because we have no idea what he's talking about at all?  This is a great disappointment.

When reading his comments I sometimes have the feeling I don't speak English at all.

Aragorn, I will pre-order just because it makes me feel good. and it probably makes our friends at BFC feel good to get lots of early orders.  I am spending the money anyway, so doesn't hurt me to spend it a month or two early.

I will follow your example. And the day we can download I take the rest of the week off, retreat into my study room and only open the door for my wife if she brings me food. 😃 If she won't  New York Pizza will have a good week.

Me too, even though I don't have enough time to play the Red Thunder I already have.  FB and BN have taken over (shocking as I'm usually an East Front type of guy) and even FI has had to take a back seat.  Anyway, it's all good 😁.

Each game has it's own merits. As you say, it's all good.

Pre-orders don’t cost more. One point, if not the only one, was to be notified slightly ahead of time (a couple of hours) so you can beat the download rush and congestion that inevitably happens once it’s announced the game is ready for download. That never works, however, cuz someone always posts that it’s up on the BFC website as soon as they get the early notice.

I see. Well, in that case I will also pre-order, although I never had problems downloading.

Well I expected you to have a need to be first 😁

Genuine just says that that's the 'real' benefit. I usually don't pre order but just buy when I see it's available. And indeed I doubt that I'll miss it for weeks 🤣

I don't think that's the idea behind pre-ordering. I'm not sure, but if I recall correctly you can pre-order for a higher price, so you will get a DVD by post before other people can download the game. So yes, it has to do with making some extra money.

The genuine benefit of a pre-order at BFC is that you'll get an e-mail notifying you it's ready (at least in the past). Considering they usually soft-launch, that can be helpful if you need to be one of the first.

Is that a genuine benefit? 😃

Most of us check this forum on a daily basis anyway.

And need to be first? Why? 🤣

The complexity demonstrates effectively why so few user-made campaigns are now being made.  :(

Ithikial is a perfectionist, bless his soul. But it doesn't have to be that complicated. It's often a matter of taking the time to read and test, after which things become easier and a lot of fun. In the past week I took the time to dive into the editor for Command Ops 2 (I can not recommend this brilliant game enough), which looks pretty daunting at first. After spending a couple of days with it, it proved to be rather easy and very much worth the time and effort. CM is the same. Most of us have become spoiled and lazy when it comes to gaming, but the CM editor in my opinion is very good and not nearly as complicated as it seems on first sight.

    How?

It doesn't cost any more and if it means Steve & Co. have a bit of 'fluidity' to make things happen, I'm all for it.....Christ I pre-ordered that POS Cyberpunk 2077 so whingeing about Battlefront's pre-orders would be downright churlish.

Then, what is the use of pre-orders?

Pre-orders used to have some genuine utility back when BFC had to judge how many paper manuals and game CDs they should produce for release. Now when 99% of sales is online download I don't know what utility pre-ordering has anymore. Also sales through Steam has thrown BFC's sales forecast numbers all out of whack. Pre-order is still a pretty good marketing gimmick to generate some 'buzz' before the release date.

It's extra money. Plain and simple. If you want to create 'buzz' you can give more information about the coming module to those who are waiting.

Worst case from a development standpoint, yes.  But as others have illustrated, things like asteroids and alien invasions could change the results.

Perhaps time for another interview with Developer Dialogue.  They will be very interested in those possibilities from a developer point of view.

    Amen to that. 🙂
