I wish more games would use the WEGO system, like the Jagged Alliance game (if it's ever published).

kinda suck on a good Anti-Infantry tactic.

Obviously ambush tactics with infantry squads often yield the highest casualties. The problem is that a wise player will never charge new positions headlong, but uses scouts instead. A good combination is to use MG's in keyhole positions behind your hidden troops to ward off the scouts - with any of luck, the frustrated opponent will spend his waste his artillery on your machine guns, and then charge his infantry force directly to your ambush. Hint: sharshooters are also an excellent way to repel scouts, since they usually cause panic in the targeted unit, and the sniper himself is difficult to locate. -

I'll call the "please refrain from using multiple languages unless utterly necessary" policy. Unless you're writing in German, there'll be less confusion if you stick to the SMG/HMG/LMG/MG abbrevations. -

Uh, I assume you mean heavy machineguns? And like Sirocco said, achieving kills isn't necessary - although if your casualties are relatively higher than the attackers, you'll obviously feel the sting in the final score. -

SMG squads aren't exactly the best choice for suppressing fire... Unless the target is less than 30 meters away. -

In my opinion, retreating to cover only works if your troops are engaged at the edge of the enemy unit's line of fire (like when your troops appear behind the edge of the forest, or up the hill side). This means that your troops are pinned relatively close to perfect cover (beyond the enemy's field of vision), and withdrawing will allow you to recompose your troops and develop a new plan without a fuss. But if your troops are ambushed (MG nest's cover arc set to the middle of a grassy field, an your troops trip it), then attempting to search for cover might lead to higher casualties than attempting to silence the enemy by returning fire. it's all a question of the distance to the nearest patch of cover. -

Ok, if it would've been possible to get the squads far apart enough so that a single enemy unit can't pin them simultaneously, then getting the +2 morale squad leader in command contact would've done the trick in the end. Come to think of it, that really is extreme cohesion if a single hand grenade (or whatever it's supposed to present in CM) ends up shocking two separate squads. -

The exact date of this battle is left unrevealed, so I'm wondering how much firepower the German squad had. Also, the range to the German squad is unclear. If this range was 30 meters or less, the wisest decision would've been to let rip with both SMG squads. At that range, they'll tear any hostile infantry unit to pieces. (Since it's mentioned that the German squad throws hand grenades at the Soviets, I assume it is close). -

So I thought.

Beholders... No offense, but you've been posting awfully noobish questions lately. Are you sure you're playing the right game?

20mm AT Rounds
Bone_Vulture replied to Dr. Jones And The Addiction's topic in Combat Mission: Barbarossa to Berlin
I'm sure the forum grunts can give a more verbose response, but here's a brief reply: small caliber AT gun rounds rarely had any explosive charge. The round was a solid slug (or "shot"), and was meant to penetrate the armor and damage the crew either directly, or indirectly via spalling. The shots can also cause explosions if they ignite the fuel tanks or loose ammunition inside the vehicle. If an AT round has an explosive charge with a delayed detonator, it will likely eliminate the crew if it penetrates their compartment. But a solid shot alone is enough to rattle a crew if it penetrates.
