  1. Bonjour fellas, The unsolicited generosity and honesty of BTS and Battlefront is truly appreciated in this small corner of the world... A small suggestion for the new edition of the Strategy Guide... would it be possible to include diagrams to replace or augment the current B&W screenshot pictures? The screenshot pictures in my copy of the old Strategy Guide and are very dark and not very clear at all... and diagrams might serve a more useful purpose to effectively illustrate the author's text... 2. Bonjour fellas, Thanks for the advice... Well, I thought I had configured the newest Schweinstall Dunkelgrau ruleset from Dec 13... but... ooops... I had not... so, it is now added to CMMOS 4.02 and that error is corrected... Also, I have d/l and configured the DS_Grey_AG_CMMOS mod file... But... I don't see any icon buttons for either the DS_Grey_Tanks mod file or DS_Grey_AG mod file on the CMMOS selector panel... However... I now see a new icon button on the selector panel for the Dec 13 Schweinstall Dunkelgrau ruleset... So, I am thinking that this new Schweinstall Dunkelgrau button probably controls the simultaneous installation of all Dunkelgrau Tank & AG mod files... and probably all the Support Vehicle mod file too... 3. Bonjour fellas, Just finished very large d/l of DS_Grey_Tanks_CMMOS zip file from CMHQ... 27.6 MB worth... But, there are no internal CMMOS ruleset files included in the mod zip... result: this mod zip is completely useless for selection with CMMOS 4.02... Any chance of updating this mod file in the near future... to include internal CMMOS ruleset files... so that it CAN be selected with CMMOS 4.02? 4. Bonjour fellas, Here is what Battlefront.com had to say about bogging in an earlier thread posted on September 10, 2002: Having read this... and the rest of the thread... I try to avoid moving all my armor over open ground... or steppe... or even through scattered woods... at the same time... Instead, I try to move platoon by platoon if possible... unless there is a road handy... and even then I still remain cautious... As to whether the 'bog' tweaks in the patch are really working... that remains to be seen... but my initial observations have not seen very much improvement... at least for the Panzers... 5. Bonjour Gordon and everyone, Merci for the responses... it all becomes clear now... Cordialement, Duke of Earl
  6. Bonjour fellas, What's the secret to get CMMOS 4.0 to utilize the 'Dirty Tracks' mod?... from what I have read... @ CombatMission HQ and in the 'Read Me' file of the zip.. it is supposed to be compatible with both the 'DS' and 'SV' CMMOS rulesets... however... at the Mod Wal-Mart... it says that this mod is not CMMOS compatible... Anyway... I have d/l'ed this mod and installed it in the CMMOS mod configuration list... but it does not appear on any of the SV or DS mod option screens as a selection icon... it is not listed in any of the mod option selection sub-panels either... and it is not listed as an option in the 'DS' or 'SV' ruleset configuration list either... So, unfortunately, I cannot select it to be applied from CMMOS... I must have missed something somewhere... Maybe I have to alter the file name and create a duplicate file?... one file with the 'DS' prefix... and the other file with the 'SV' prefix... 7. Comrade Passenger (in cab): "I spy... with my little eye... something that begins with a "T"..." Comrade Driver: "Whoaaa.. really do need to clean out my pants now... so, we're getting the hell over to that patch of woods..." Comrade Soldier (in back): *I just hope they left that damn tailgate unlocked...* Cordialement, Duke of Earl [ November 25, 2002, 06:28 PM: Message edited by: Duke of Earl ]
  8. Bonjour, Sure...it's a little bit slow on the d/l... and me with only a dialup modem.. but I do 2 files at a time... didn't take long... and after the install.. the lo-res grids certainly do help me find defilade positions a lot faster... ... thank you Cap'n Wacky... Cordialement, Duke of Earl
  9. Bonjour, The CMBO mortar puff was pretty good... I liked it... so, why can't that one be used now?... No joke, this 1.01 CMBB thing looks like a slow motion beer belch lazily floating out of a drain pipe to dissipate into thin air... not even enough decent speed on that thing to remotely call it a 'puff'... I have never tried to mod anything before... all these textures seem way too big and complicated... and I am way too inexperienced... but, this mortar texture is pretty small deal... a good beginner's project, probably... Cordialement, Duke of Earl
  10. Bonjour, When I open the .bmp with M$Paint... 3488 looks like a grey postage stamp... are you sure this is a mortar tube texture? Cordialement, Duke of Earl
  11. Yikes!... does this reduced ammo thing show up in canned battles... quick battles... or both? Cordialement, Duke of Earl [ November 24, 2002, 12:39 PM: Message edited by: Duke of Earl ]
  12. Well... the Gamespy guy did say that the AI sucks on offense... which is not a problem with me... when I want to win solo... I defend against the AI... when I want to lose solo... I attack the AI.. it all balances out in the end... Cordialement, Duke of Earl
  13. Yeah... 'tis true... and also... All the 1.01 Ampulomets look like Extra King Size Lucky Strikes... now, all I need is a really big Zippo... hahahahahaha Cordialement, Duke of Earl [ November 24, 2002, 03:14 PM: Message edited by: Duke of Earl ]
  14. Well... I hate to say it... but the 1.01 mortar 'smoke puff' is a real 'cream-puff'... it looks like a semi-transparent dwarf belch coming out of the end of the tube... not quite the same as the old CMBO hemispherical smoke puff... so, maybe I was expecting too much anyway... Cordialement, Duke of Earl
  15. and I have two words... * * * * * * ** EXPEDITE MOD ** Cordialement, Duke of Earl
  16. Bonjour Rex, 'tis true, 'tis true... thanks for the advice... the mortar situation is indeed much improved... Coridialement, Duke of Earl
  17. Bonjour fellas, Downloaded & installed CMMOS 4.0... NO PROBLEM... works great... CMBB MUCH better now... having a blast... Downloaded & installed 1.01 Patch... NO PROBLEM... works great... CMBB MUCH better now... having a blast... Downloaded & installed the 'Stalingrad Pack'... really good stuff... been messing around with the 22nd Panzer Division Scenario... I call it 'General Mouse and the 20 Tanks'... You know, the one where General Leutnant Heim goes looking for the Russians and finally finds them at Peschanyy village... as if they were going to be hard to find anyhow!... hahahahahaha... By the way, I did some research and found that scenario on page 192 of my copy of "Enemy At The Gates"... and, did you know that Heim was later recalled and courtmartialed for withdrawing and not breaking thru with the 48th Panzer Corps?... I have an idea... what about a Stalingrad scenario from page 240?... the one where the 6th Panzer Division tries a breakout from the 'Kessel' and runs smack dab into 300 Russian T-34's... what a shootout that would be... [Edit: Wrong!... The 6th Panzer Division was part of the 57th Panzer Corps... and was trying to break into the 'Kessel' from the southwest...] Anyway, I digress... my question is this: Is it just me or do the man-carried mortars still look the same?... I thought that new textures for mortars were in the 1.01 patch?... ... just thought I'd ask... Cordialement, Duke of Earl [ November 22, 2002, 11:12 AM: Message edited by: Duke of Earl ]
  18. I think this puny modem has choked itself... better give it a Heimlich... *haaachk.. haaachk*... there, all better now... Cordialement, Duke of Earl
  19. Personally speaking, I would probably have the troops drop packs somewhere before conducting an advance or assault... stuff extra ammo in their pockets, etc.... just to lighten the load a bit... but, that's just me... 20. At last! *exhales and gasps for air* Cordialement, Duke of Earl
  21. Bonjour everyone, Well.. if the CMBO/CMBB engine would not be compatible enough for a linear Napoleonic game... Then I would like to see a BTS adaptation for SF3D... or 'Maschinen Krieger'... Ma.K.B.D.... as it is now known... Very similar to Starship Troopers... but with a more gritty, apocalyptic 'retro' look... Yeah.. that would be great... and still tactical too... AFS's, SAFS's, PkA's, Jerries, Nutrockers... the works... Cordialement, Duke of Earl [ November 17, 2002, 01:40 AM: Message edited by: Duke of Earl ]
  22. Bonjour fellas, There are some very interesting Napoleonic projects afoot... HistWar 1806 - La Grande Armee Series However, I don't know if it will ever equal the complexity or popularity of CMBO or CMBB... but time will tell... after all.. it's only a very small project for right now... Cordialement, Duke of Earl
  23. Bonjour fellas, Win 98SE OS w/NVidia GeForce 3 Ti 200 64 MB AGP w/AMD 1700XP CPU w/Via PCI... I upgraded drivers from 28.32 to 29.42 to see if graphics could be fantasticly improved... and I also tried out the 30.82 driver as well... with 4x FSAA and 8x Ansiotropic enabled... my AGP does not have a setting for 6x FSAA... Ok.. some improvements... very smooth outline when gun barrel is not sihlouetted against blue sky... but, I still see some 'jaggies' when gun barrel is profiled against blue sky... Tracks do appear smoother as in example photos... But, no apparent improvement on the small 'jaggies' by going from 29.42 to 30.82... so I am going to leave 29.42 installed... it works ok... Don't even try the so-called 'certified' 40.72 drivers... you'll only get an error message midway during the Setup install about a 'nv4disp.inf' file being missing... and then Setup will abort the entire install... 24. So... does this mean that Ann Margaret is not coming then?... Cordialement, Duke of Earl
  25. Be careful what you wish for... you may just get it... or words to that effect... I find that the Infantry micromanagement requirements of CMBB are much more intense than CMBO... so now, I must function on the practical level of a Squad or Platoon Commander... instead of a Company or Battalion Commander as before... otherwise, I will not have any chance of success in a canned scenario or random quick battle... Moreover... in larger battles and operations... the micromanagement technique needed to preserve the fragile fighting ability of the CMBB Infantry... is very time consuming and fraught with errors... Once all of your tank, artillery, mortar and machine gun support is bogged down, jammed up, ammoed out or just plain blown up... then you might as well pull out and send all the Infantry back to the bivouac... because you aren't going anywhere anymore... except to the rear... So, it's details, details and more details... every Infantry move must now be meticulously planned down to the last boot, bullet and second... special 'weasel' tactics have to learned, memorized and rehearsed over and over... geeesh... I need some more Field Manuals... Good news for me is that the CMBB micromanagement required for armour and artillery assets has not intensified that much from CMBO... i.e. tanks still behave just about like before in CMBO... except for this 'bailing out' stuff... if I wanted tank crews and halftrack crews to bail out whenever they felt like it... I'd have given them parachutes... hahahahahaha Anyway... I can still usually use group moves for Armoured platoons without having to individually plot every last inch of every movement path for each and every tank or halftrack... However, setting firing arcs for each unit is a different matter... it is tedious and fraught with errors as well... I would like to see a function so that I could quickly set a joint firing arc for a platoon of tanks or group of AT guns, etc., etc and then move on to the next group.... or something similar to that... just wish list stuff though... CMBB is a real challenge and I will continue my explorations of all of the Russian Fronts... but the increased micromanagment required for Infantry tactics dulls my enjoyment somewhat...
