  1. I'm really just curious. I've started about ten games, all in '39, finished a couple, but only by one side or the other conceding. I've yet to play Russia in IP land (and I so want too). Have some of the other players here tried some of the other scenarios, IP, that Hubert provided with the game, or that have been developed by the players? If so, are us 39ers missing out?
  2. I'm glad I'm reading this thread instead of writing it (Upon reflection, I felt I had come across as way too indignant. It's only a game!) I've found some great opponents out there and played them. Waltero, your one of them (though we only played for a while). Iron Ranger is another. And I can tell from the posts and threads, there are many more. So I guess one simply has to pick and choose who own plays (just be careful, alias can change too). The worst part is the game is so addictive, there are so many wonderful players, and so little time.
  3. Bill, I remember those days well, and fondly. I still have a copy of that magazine about 3rd Reich. It's with the game. I remember when they came out with those strategic options (I think that's what they were called and it's been a while). There were like ten possibles for each side and you were supposed to secretly draw a chit and receive one of those (like German U-boats have increased effectiveness, and so on). We were kids then and didn't bother with that. We took them all. Sleepovers on a Friday night after school, with pop and chips and an all night 3rd Reich tournament. (We were a bit dorky then, but we were very smart dorks. One of the memories that make me smile, was a couple of the players that were in our group were doing a little smoke in those days would take a break after about an hour of playing, and the game would slow way way way down. We stopped that after a couple of times, because the rest of us were going bats). Ah the memories....Thank god for this game, cause it's too late to go back to that one.
  4. To the person I played: It's not over yet. But if it is Rambo, i concede. Because he's an ass. To Waltero: I don't know the deadline, but it is kind of busy for me. Catch as catch can. I guess. If we can't get together in time, I will forsake.
  5. Weeelll, just sharing a bit...like all of you old fogies like me. I will try to be succinct (but it's so hard not blather on). My very first gaem was with the little Airfix units of infantry. The game that caught me was Midway (AH), though it was skewed and seemed like battleship. Then Panzerblitz. Ahhh. That game was holy. You could move the maps around and everything. I bought a second set, just for more stuff. Dear to my heart. But what I want someone to talk about, since I think it could work well on SC2, or my upcoming game, The World at War, is War at Sea and Victory in the Pacific. Again, simple elegant design. Easy to play, and easy to program. I just loved those big fat ship counters.
  6. I got told to post this here, instead of there: Rambo is dork.
  7. That was not very polite, canuck. nor tentative. Be nice
  8. I gotta say wow! I started reading this thread that I created (it's alive! it's alive!), intending to apologize for spamming up the forum. Then, as I read it, I almost forgot what the thread was about. But I did notice it was spirited for and against. Something or other. I think that is why moon hasn't locked it up and moved it to netherworld: Because he doesn't really know if this has to do with game or not. But I think it does. There is a passion for this game. There are comments. Hubert made a simply incredible game (if I say Hubert, he'll read the post). So we're bitching. So we are not being inclusive to newbies. We are. The forum is very alive and well. 40+ notes on a comment about Rambos integrity in one day! J Wagner, I do aplogize for making this thread off path. As you have seen, I have also posted thoughts about strategy and history. I got upset. I posted. Many responses. Passion for the game. Look at Rambo. He eats this game for breakfast. But still, don't preach til you teach. No one needs to buy into a thread. It's there and available, and costs nothing to leave it. And you know what it's about. This thread is spam smack and anyone who posts here, reads the stuff, knows it. I have posted Strategy: Germans. Strategy: Allies, and many others. Those are strategy discussions. This is not. Don't be upset, if you didn't know that after reading the first five posts, and didn't like them and then read the next five, that is something you cannot blame me for.
  9. Well, Jersey John, I don't like what you said at all, because it's true and I am guilty of exactly what you described. I have tried to add interesting threads about stategies and observations. But lately, I have to be honest, I've abused the forum, and I apologize. Where's that pic of the tower of babel when you need it. So here's my promise to the room (that I will try to keep, no gurantees, but an attempt is good). No new threads, unless it has to do with history, or strategy relevant to this game.
  10. Well, now it goes spam. Konstatin, it would be easier to reply to you, if you had less letters and stuff. CvM, is easy to get. So I will abbreviate, since this will be locked away soon.... CvM: Lets get you out of the way. The Russian War against Finland almost mattered, but it didnt. K: To me, and to you, it just doesn't matter. It is not key. Rambo tries to make it key and i buy into it. But then a lie, and I am dissillioned (sp) My frank thoughts are, and I can say this, since this thread will be locked by moon tomorrow., You read way too much into this. Rambo plays well. I don't know if his girlfrient is his right hand, or his left hand, or both. Rambo actualizes on us. He actualize on the forum. He feeds on this. It is not bad. It is, however, pathetic. It;s a game! It is a great game. Rambo could lose his job over this infatuation. I could too. He is insane. I am close. It's the game. Hubert, be happy
  11. CvM: That is actual. I thought I was playing Waltero, but I was not. If I was Waltero, I would be furious. If I were the monitor of this room, I would be saddened. If I were me, which I am, I think, I would be upset. And I am. I concede.
  12. Rambo, You lied. There are three stages of lying. Getting away with, getting caught, living with it and fixing it. I concede. You win. BE happy
  13. First off, this is a great game and a great community. Second;, we have this contest going to determine who is the best of the best (though really it's just bragging rights. The game is so good as I believe no one can win constantly: It's a matter of averages.) Summary: I am in the second round against Waltero. We Play. It's close and I am not doing as well as I would like. We get disco. I put out an AAR. Rambo says he's kicking my ass as allies as Waltero (in a post). Waltero sends a note out here, saying I put out an AAR he never played. (I'm playing Waltero, who is actually Rambo, lying) Do you get it? Do you follow? I follow. I hate to cross lines, break bridges. But I have to now. Rambo, I thought you were wild and fun and crazy and an excellent player (and you are), but now, to me, you are a stain. I can't say you cheat. That would be impossible to prove and actually it doesnt matter. I can't say you lie, but I can, actually, since you posted it yourself. It's the game, Rambo. Winning or losing, who cares? I sleep well at night, always. I have had to sacrifice for the cause of my integrity. And Integrity, to me, is all that matters. Why do you lie? Why so intense on proving yourself here? Why is this so important that you will decieve and lie and accuse and well, I don't know the words, but the thought is masturbate yourself to excellence in this house? Yes, I get sanquine. Yes. I puzzle about things. Yes, I get erudite. I'm just thinking and thinking. And I can't find the why. In all our games, so far, I concede. BE happy
  14. Look! Either buy the game and participate or don't. But quit with the new threads of how you are thinking you maybe, kind of sort of going to buy this game. But I caution you: You have been thinking of buying this game since like September. If you are going to be that decisive when playing the game, you're going to get crushed, and won't like this game. All your threads considered, I would recommend that you Not buy this game. Better to buy a screen saver with fish, and play that.

  16. I'm a pretty easy going person. I can give and take. But Rambo is beginning to irritate me.
  17. Hubert, thank you for posting on this thread. That compliments me (without ego, I appreciate). And gloat. My comments to you about this game: It was great in the first place, it was great till 1.05. It is great now, with 1.06. There is no room left for complaints, except to want more. However, someone, somewhere, did a poor marketing job (and it is not you). The people on here, know games, real games. Heart of Iron games (which, for the most part, based on what I have seen, the players find lacking). The forum is too small, the game is excellent, and you are being deprived of sales. I implore you to find (me) a marketing manager that will push this game into known dom.
  18. How's it going? How's it going! Well, this is an AAR, of the game going with waltero, so far. We were in the fall of 40, that the game became unstable. Wind here, disco somewhere. It's not going like I wanted it to. I violated my own rules. That is Kill France fast. Waltero did the dutch gambit and then pushed many fleets into the baltic. My ships hammered him, and I did not know that he would continue to do this. I bombed, I intercepted. I hurt. He lost fleets, and his french navy, which is supposed to be nothing, survived, and annoyed me. I got distracted, and bombed his British navy, taking some of them out. But he got the time to build. And built he did. A French HQ, A British HQ. And now, sadly for me, it's trench warfare on the western front. I did, finally take Belguim. And the colonies. I had too. He has 3 carriers in the North sea. Nothing down in the med. Which is right, since, until France falls, it doesn't matter. Bash bash, and it shouldn't be this way. It's late, I am behind schedule, and it's a morass. My German fleet is dead, but for the two uboat, floating about, free: His fleet is in the north sea. They will be key, if and when the French surrender. But they haven't and I am frustrated. I have not have the dutch gambit against me. France will fall, but late. The cost will be high. I have no tech. I am bleeding. Waltero is getting reduced. But will I have time to fix everything back? I am sure I can take Paris, soon, but...at what cost. I commend Waltero for risking his ships bombarding Denmark (copenhagen). It didn't matter much, it shouldn't have mattered at all. But it did. I have 5 air fleets. But they are so weak and I can not reinforce them much. I have an italian air, but they seem to be flying to antartica I own the med, but can't do anything with it, till France falls. Waltero played the dutch gambit, so unexpectedly, that it may be key.
  19. Rambo, You are funny, but post it to the other thread. I have things to do here.
  20. Canuck, Let me be harsh. Panzer General, in its day, and even still now, was great. But you couldn't play mano e mano. This game was great, before we could do that. Now we can. You imply that you like wargames...of one nature or another. Let me be clear. The interface is easy, the mechanics are simple, the strategy is, clearly, open. If you don't buy this game, you are foolish. (stupid, dull, brain dead, dill weed). It is the best game I have ever ever got. Better than Civ, Civ 2, Civ 3, anything. I mean this in the best way (and I am not compesated for this endorsement, smile. of course I'm not) wish i was
  21. Brad, Thank you. But if I may say, Rambo's playing as the Allies is perfecting on what I showed him to do. The tournament is not unforfunate, not to me, anyways, and I'm giving Rambo fair grace, bragging rights (it's not just the $10). I assume he's using his carriers wisely, the dutch gambit I showed him. Sigh. But seriously, when we all get it figured out, Rambo might just show us a new way of doing it. Rambo gets kudos for jamming people. Bragging on, jazzing emotions. Making people mad. It livens the forum. I appreciate his moves in the game, but he'll have to work a bit harder to earn my respect.
  22. Shaking head.... IN the future, I would prefer you not to call me a liar. As far as the grudge match goes, say what you will. During the games, say whatever you want on t-talk. As I recall, I have complimented your moves. But you can say what you choose there. As I recall, you have been a gracious player. Mostly. Almost always. And skilled. But then you get upset. Hey, like now. I don't lie. I don't cheat. I compliment where it is deserved. And I give advice when allowed. I grant you this. You have done well against me. You have done some interesting moves, as Axis. In the long run, we don't know if you would have won. We never got there. I do not think it is fair to say that you would have won, just because it looked like you might be. I have yet to hear about how you eliminated Russia. Points? I haven't heard points. To be honest, you have done some nice moves. Clearly, according to your comments, I have not. This is not impinging upon your gravitus. This is not slamming you. This is not saying you are a liar or cheater or mrs. compassion. This is saying, you should start thinking about truly winning the bragging rights you say you deserve. This is saying I am waiting....
  23. Rambo, tsk tsk tsk. The tourney is not a joke. It's a great thing. It's a fair match. (Actually, I would have preferred to be matched against another, so as to meet you closer to the end, but I assume they wanted to eliminate one of the yammer folk up front). Didn't happen. You're still here. Second, this is our peng. The tourney will take precedence on my time, since I intend to take on Hubert at the end. But you can say anything here. Just don't get all pouty. You're a fair player, but the points at the end always is really what counts. You keep driftin off on new games and can't follow through to Russia. I think you are afraid of them. I have only played allies against you. Peng: You can't plan that far ahead. You've only played the five or six turns that you "think" you can project, and poorly at that. tsk, RamboBambi. It's ok. Not to be as good as you think you are. It happens to everyone. Otherwise, you would have brought the disk. I guess we will see.
