  1. I was considering what the best scenario would be for purchase points. It dawned on me that instead of having preset amounts 100 then 200 up to 5000, just allow people to type in the amount. So for example if someone wants to play a QB with 8,500 points they just type in 8500. The same thing for the amount of turns.

This would allow complete flexibility in the QB portion of the game.

I would like to here opinions on this suggestion and in particular from BTS.

  3. Russian Marines are in !

I would have thought that the Northover Projector and the Bates Eight-Barrelled Bottle-Thrower (IANMTU) would have been nearer comparisons.

I must say that I am absolutely delighted to know that the Ampulomyot features in CM:BB.

Did the Black Sea Marines make it in? They are another of my favouite Russian Front things.

Now, how long will I have to wait before I see the LMG rocket-mine and the 37mm spade-mortar?

Trolley flamethrowers and mine dogs? Aerosans, Cossacks, mule-packed katyushas, mobile pillboxes, armoured trains and Volga gunboats?

  4. Patch:

    1) Allow 7500 and 10000 point QBs

    2) Allow 90 turns for QBs

    3) Allow Maps to be imported into QBs, with the provision, that the opponent gets a flag advising them the map is imported, to stop map fixing

    4) Graphics for planes, would add a whole new dimension to the game

Just found out about Pioneers blowing up buildings within 30 metres. I believe this is great and will help to stop boring standoffs in towns !!

  5. Hello,

Where is the Display Properties found under WinXP ??

Another feature supported by modern cards is anisotropic filtering, which helps reduce the shimmering you see in the ground textures in the distance in CMBO/CMBB (especially when using the hi-res modded textures). In my opinion the anisotropic filtering has at least as much if not more impact on CMBO/CMBB.

With 30.82 drivers you can alter the anti-aliasing settings from Display Properties -> Advanced -> GeForce -> Additional Properties -> 3D Antialiasing settings (on Win XP anyway).

You can't control the anisotropic filtering from the control panel, you should get a third-party application such as aTuner (available from http://www.guru3d.com/atuner/ ). Change the Direct3D settings to 4xS Antialiasing and 8x Anisotropic Filter, and the results are quite beautiful. In particular look at the distant map as you move the camera, there's a lot less noisy shimmering with both these settings like that.

If you play other games you should be careful to turn these off before playing, as they have a real big impact on the frame rate. It's not important in CMBO/CMBB, and your card should be quite capable of handling both these settings at maximum in Combat Mission.

The 40.xx drivers allow you to alter anti-aliasing and anisotropic filtering from the control panel (so you don't need aTuner), and supposedly give better performance. I can't get them to run, so I'm sticking with 30.xx for now.

  6. Your computer is okay for Office duties and the Internet but for gaming you will need a better system.

Computers are cheap now. Minimum would be a 1.5 ghz CPU and a 32 meg video card. Depends on your budget.

    Celeron 500MHz processor

    Intel 810 chipset

    64 MB RAM

Video memory consisting of 11MB shared system memory (I think a video card can be installed, but I’m not sure which kind. The specs sheet says “Video Graphics – PCI Local Bus” which I think means I could use a PCI video card, but not AGP – correct?).

I’ve noticed that anything but the smallest CMBB scenarios experience jerky playback (is this the same as a slow framerate problem?), and even huge CMBO scenarios can be challenging.

I recently installed DirectX 8.1b and the latest drivers for the 810 chipset, which improved things marginally.

I am in the process of upgrading the RAM to 256 MB (max possible) and would like to know if I will see any improvements in CM play as a result of this upgrade, or if I will need to upgrade other aspects of the system.

    Thanks for your help,

    Ace

  7. I found the plane. It is listed under Ilyushin IL-4 and IL-2.

If I scan the pages and save them as a .jpg is it possible to post them on this webboard ?

If so, what are the commands to make a .jpg file show up ?

    Thanks,

The idea is NOT to try to retro fit the CMBB code back into CMBO but rather add the CMBO units and terrain features into CMBB. That should require less coding and more modelling. I think that the reworked "CMBO" would be very appealing to the CM community even if it had no new features other than including the units and terrain features covered in CMBO with the CMBB features (I know I would like it!!) It could leverage off of the huge amount of scenarios developed and everyone could have the fun of replaying those old scenarios with the CMBB features. And not having to wait another two years for the next version would be nice for both the gamers (the last wait was awfully long) and BTS (from a cash flow perspective).

    Your opinions?

    Great idea !

I think they already mentioned they plan to drop the CMII engine into CMBO and CMBB after the release of CMDD. So I believe it has already been decided !

  10. Not completely correct. When AA is targeted by the AI on the aircraft a label with the aircraft type is located where the aircraft is and the distance from the the AA gun is available.

In addition, this provides proof that with the Shift-A command an airplane graphic would be visible. CMBB could reflect the plane, the plane being destroyed and the pilot bailing out of the plane.

The plane crash and pilot do not necessarily have to land on the battlefield, they could crash off screen.

Lot's of potential for improvement here for either CMBB patches or with the CMII engine.

Let's hope BTS follows up on these issues.
