Because we have a darling 3 1/2 month old, I haven't had much time to play, but in the wee hours of this morning I was able to launch my first Barbarossa. My goodness, it was such a bloody horror. I loved every minute of it! Cheers to Hubert, the testers, and to Battlefront for delivering what's basically the game that I always wanted to write. Ok, back to the front...

Cant upgrade Paris?
fischkopf replied to Fireball's topic in Strategic Command 2 Blitzkrieg and Weapons and Warfare
Lol, I didn't even know that you could upgrade a city's AA. That rocks! I gotta find more time to play this! -
First impressions
fischkopf replied to Kuniworth's topic in Strategic Command 2 Blitzkrieg and Weapons and Warfare
My impressions: Took a few minutes to get used to everything, but then I found that it plays a lot like SC1, only with layers and layers of more depth that I can get to when my pre-order arrives. Very happy, but anxious for my CD to come! -
Bombing Occupied hexes
fischkopf replied to Marky's topic in Strategic Command 2 Blitzkrieg and Weapons and Warfare
Can't wait to try out various allied and axis strategic bombing campaigns! As a suggestion, everyone who pre-orders should get a free heavy bomber upgrade. -
Pre-Orders - WOOT!!!
fischkopf replied to Lars's topic in Strategic Command 2 Blitzkrieg and Weapons and Warfare
Ok, a little more than I was expecting ($12 shipping to canada? but it's just a $0.51 cent stamp from Toronto!) but I've pre-ordered. Bring on the game! -

Hey I'm redoing our upstairs bathroom and my wife and I are wondering what to do for the floor. Here are some of the patterns we're considering: and then there are these as well... Anyway, all good, I'm sure it'll be a great bathroom either way. -
Yeah, in an ideal world I'd be all for hexes myself. But even if the majority of 'wargamers' prefer hexes, look at gamers in general. Most would never play a hex-based game. And yet tile-based Civ 1...4, as mentioned earlier, are huge huge sellers. Imagine how badly a Civ game would flop if it was turned to hexes. The tiny, but vocal, wargamer community would love it, but not the guy walking into EBGames to see if there's anything interesting to play... And not even the guy browsing GameSpot's list of PC demo's. He wants tile-based. Anyway, I have faith that Hubert will do a great job with tiles and that SC2 will be even better than SC1. And if it isn't, well ... it was only $25??

I'm anxious to see how it plays for myself, but I think that the vast majority of 'casual' strategy gamers are more used to tiles. Look at the ongoing success of Civ4. I personally found it unplayable, but it's been in the top 3 every week since it shipped. It appeals to casual strategy gamers, which outnumber grognards 10:1, at least...

Worst Descisions for SC2

But this is realistic as well, heck the Poles invested too heavily in Cavalry. hahah, ok, I apololgize for my role in furthering this silly topic. -

Indeed, Civ3 also includes: the Germans, the Russians, the Americans, the English, and the Japanese and the Chinese. As well as: nukes, submarines, air craft carriers, cruisers, battleships, destroyers, fighters, jet fighters, bombers, tanks (and Panzers for Germans), various types of infantry, transports, paratroopers, artillery, rockets, Flak guns, roads, rail roads, and buildable fortifications. -
Worst Descisions for SC2

Heh heh, agreed vveedd, I found Civ4 to be unplayable, clunky even on my 2.8Ghz machine, and I couldn't find a map viewpoint which I liked. Back to the drawing boards Civ team! -

Civ3 by the way is a great tile-based game. (Better than Civ4 in my opinion...) Only problem is those damn Zulus that think they own everthing! Think they can bully me around do they?!?!! -

Omg guys, it's tile based. Let the man make the game, let's play it, and we'll go from there! -
SC 2 in December
fischkopf replied to Fireball's topic in Strategic Command 2 Blitzkrieg and Weapons and Warfare
Listen guys... the important thing is that the settler should be able to see enough of the surrounding territory _before_ he builds the city, so that you don't make your capital right next to a desert or something. hahha, just kidding. -
SC 2 in December
fischkopf replied to Fireball's topic in Strategic Command 2 Blitzkrieg and Weapons and Warfare
Out of the thounsand of games that I've played, I can honestly say that "Strategic Command" is one of the best, certainly in the top 20. If Hubert can make SCII anywhere near as good, or, dare I hope, even better, then that's the important thing. The final shipping date is nothing more than a minor detail. ... And patience is a virtue -
