  1. Matrix has a new ETO game just released that seems like a "Clash of Steel" remake. No pbem support at this point though ([in best Austin Powers voice] who does that any way, I mean seriously? ).

Decision Games and there new "World at War" magazine series just came out with "Barbarossa: The Russo-German War, 1941-45" which is a medium complexity, single-mapper covering the entire war in the east. I'm in the process of making a VASSAL module for it so it could be Pbem'd or played over the net. Hoping to get some solo playing time in on this one this weekend. Check out game # 36911 on boardgamegeek.com for more info.

  2. Interesting comment to the story:

It's not racist but it brings to mind an issue I am grappling with and that is putting up my McCain sign in my front yard because half my neighborhood is african american. Several black families live on my street and my neighbors on one side are black. And I have this huge fear I will be thought of as racist if I don't support Obama.

I also know since where I teach it is predominantly african american I won't be putting a McCain sticker on my car for the same reason.

If Obama was not black, I would have no problem expressing my Republican views but this whole race thing does scare me.

  3. Also, can a link such as that at the top of the page (e.g., "Battlefront Forum > General Discussion Forum > General Discussion Forum") be added to the bottom of the page? It's a pain to read all the messages in the post and then have to scroll all the way back to the top to get a link back to the main page of the forum that I was reading.

The FTP protocol and opening of port 21 isn't needed to download from the site since the connection type for download isn't using FTP. However, it is common for most firewalls to allow a connection through port 21 because many sites do use FTP for transfers (such as when downloading game demo's).

Let me know if you continue to have problems.

  5. As a tip, you shouldn't use spaces in your file name (some browsers correctly translate it to %20, some do not) and you shouldn't use foreign characters in the file name either (ex: ä).

This long URL is bound to give browsers a fit:

    </font><blockquote>code:</font><hr /><pre style="font-size:x-small; font-family: monospace;">http://www.blowtorchscenarios.com/

  6. Tried the first training mission from the demo the other day. I get the start up music and then the background wind/birds during the orders phase but no other sounds (weapons, menu clicks?). Any suggestions - I haven't tried updating my ancient sound drivers, but will try that next.

    System:

    Win2K Adv. Server with SP400 (ok SP4)

    PIV 2.0 GHz

    1 gig RAM

GeForce 6600GT video with latest drivers

    tons of free drive space

Sound Blaster something or another card which has worked for years with no other issues.

  7. Yes, I've updated the software that I was using for the Java based IRC chat on the site. As I emailed Bruce just a bit ago, per the FAQ, if you get the following error:

When using the Web Chat you try to connect and you get:

    [22:12] Connecting...

    [22:12] Unable to connect : java.net.ConnectException : Connection refused

    or maybe:

    java.security.AccessControlException : access denied

Then the rememdy is to update your version of the Java JRE that you have on your computer, which you can get at www.java.com
  8. Steve,

There's a couple of problems with "loading" TSDII with TSDI scenarios:

    1. Permission of the authors for the original scenarios would need to be sought, which isn't the real stumbling block, what is;

    2. The details of each scenario are contained in a database. If it's not in the database, you can't search for it, it wont show on any lists, the number of downloads wont be counted, etc, etc. So, somebody would have to enter all that data into the database via the scenario upload function - and thus I leave it up to the original scenario authors to do so if they choose.

And as Bannon mentions, there's some scenario packs on CMMODs that contain zip archives of many of those old scenarios that aren't on TSDII.
