  1. Has anybody completed the "Tube" level? I can get a platform built that won't fall through, but can't get any vertical motion - oh wait, just had an idea. *That* is the problem with this thing, you step away and you're mind is still cranking out possible solutions. Anybody order the $10.00 "full" version with 100's of user made levels?

  2. Finally jumped in on the CMSF bandwagon and then got an early Christmas present when I had CMSF:USMC purchased for me. Here's the problems that I've had in both (CMSF 1.08 and even after installing USMC):

I'm missing the combat sounds. I hear the music and the looping background battle noise, but individual units have no sounds, even if I select them and move the camera right next to them. I.e., there's no sounds when moving or firing or any of the "radio chatter" that I've been reading about.

I did a search on this issue and saw that this has come up before, however the resolution then was to uninstall and then reinstall and reapply the patches one by one. That is not an option for me as the game is automatically patched to 1.08 for CMSF and then 1.10 when installing USMC.

I've checked my sound settings, and they are correct, two desktop speakers only.

Sound card is an older SB Live! (yes, ancient), so I'm wondering if that is the problem. I have not updated the drivers for it for some time (not sure if there's anything newer than what I have anyway, but will check). Other suggestions/ideas welcomed.

  3. Yes, exactly - and that raises the point....if the US makes significant withdrawals from Iraq, how does that affect the tensions between Israel and Iran? Thus, is the US stuck there no matter what the outcome of Iraq is; and hence the proposal to make a complete withdrawal in 18 months* is not going to happen?

*Registered trademark slogan of some in the democratic party

  4. My thoughts on what would need to happen before we charged into Iran:

    1) Israel discovers that Iran has proceeded with the development of WMD's that are pointed/directed at Israel and aren't just making nukes to power the oil rich country

    2) Israel conducts strategic air strikes to remove said weapons/weapon manufacturing plant(s)

    3) Iran retaliates and invades Israel

    4) The US (and coalition?) intervene and then all hell (continues to) break out in the Mid-East.

A very good daily newsletter that you can sign up for is at http://www.stratfor.com/ Some very good non-partisan insight in there on current world events.

  5. And what's the problem with there being no cows left if we don't need them for beef and leather and milk??!!

I agree. Same with those damn whales and bald eagles and other animals that they get all pissed off about if you kill.

Oh, and something about drinking/eating some strange woman's breast milk. I'd say that normally I'd need to buy them a drink or something at the least - first. Then I might get kinky and do something like that if I like her, but random milk in my ice cream? Eewwwww!

  6. This "request" has been around for some time. I remember as a teen wanting to set up AH's Third Reich and then switch to their various other games for the strategic battles (Africa Corps, Bulge, etc) and then even go down to Squad Leader for tactical battles. Of course with boardgames, it wasn't feasible; I'd *still* be trying to get through 1942.

Didn't the Close Combat series work like this? Operational to tactical? My kids have some Star Wars game that does this - you have the Operational overlay of hopping from planet to planet (would that not be super-grand-strategic??) and then you go to tactical to fight the battles. I know that there's been plenty of more examples, I'm just drawing a blank at the moment.

  7. Hope you weathered the storm GWDWD - thankfully reports this morning indicate that the loss of life was minimal (1 confirmed thus far, not counting the pre-storm death yesterday). I hope that you weathered it ok, though no doubt you are without power at the moment so we won't hear from you for a little while.

  8. GJK, stuff like you remembering 1) how to spell my idiotic user name, 2) that I live in Houston, and 3) that I might need a place to crash during a storm like this is why this is (was?) a real community in the best sense.

And not to forget 4) that you lean liberal yet I still invite you to stay here. Now if you'd of posted something like "why remember 9/11, why is that day any different from any other?" I'd of told you to go to hell and hope that the hurricane takes you with it. There, now I'm getting crass again..... ;)
