  1. Ah...Good ol' uboat.net. A fine site indeed. To be honest, I'm not planning on executing any sort of Sealion. The Germans had no method of getting their forces across, and I plan on reflecting that. Instead, I'm going to secure the Atlantic with a nice big U-Boot fleet, and turn my attention on Russia.
  2. Which is exactly what good old Mister Hitler said, and didn't THAT get him places. (Mainly, in a roadside Berlin ditch doused in gasoline, on fire.)
  3. Now now, we don't need to be insulting. Hubert does his best. The Art of spin doctoring is much underrated.
  4. I believe I heard someone say that after the US joins the war, there's is extra tonnage to be sunk.
  5. I'll stop stereotyping the French as cowardly, obnoxious pricks when the rest of the world (ESPECIALY America) stops stereotyping every German -past and present- as Jew killing Nazis. It's rather irritating to have people ask me if my best friend (A German) is one of "Those evil Nazi guys." After the war, we should have let the Germans keep France. Just my two pence. 6. A rather comical review. Did you notice he was playing with Scorched Earth OFF? No wonder he just rolled up on Russia. Not that hard to do when you don't have to rebuild your captured cities and resourse areas.
  7. FOR THE LOVE OF GOD. PRESS THE SHINY RED 'BAN' BUTTON.
  8. One thing you guys should be aware of if you have not already noticed, is that tech makes your stuff EXPENSIVE. A German sub (Tech level 1) costs 358. An Italian sub (Tech level 0) costs 325. Just as a heads up to you guys, you might want to consider bringing in your Industrial Technology first, then using heavy tanks, etc. Although, have you ever rolled into Russia with Heavy Tanks 2? It's a blast! Can't wait for the whole game.
  9. The Panther should have little to no trouble dispatching a Tiger, as it's 75mm KwK 42 L/70 could penetrate 99mm of armour at a 30 degree from vertical angle at 1500 metres with the standard Pzgr.39/42 ammunition. With the advanced Tungsten core Pzgr.40/42, however, it could punch through 106mm of 30 degree angle armour at 2000 metres (2 kilometers). On a side note, the Panther was classed as a Medium Heavy tank. The Panther gun penetration values are as follows: Ammunition: 100m 500m 1000m 1500m 2000m ------------------------------------------------- Panzergranate 39/42 138mm 124mm 111mm 99mm 89mm Panzergranate 40/42 194mm 174mm 149mm 127mm 106mm The Tiger on the other hand, despite it having a larger calibre (88mm to the Panther's 75mm) had lower penetration values, shown as follows: Ammunition 100m 500m 1000m 1500m 2000m ------------------------------------------------- Panzergranate 39: 120mm 110mm 100mm 91mm 84mm Panzergranate 40: 171mm 156mm 138mm 123mm 110mm
  10. Yes, I know the Tiger was a better tank in toe-to-toe combat, but that's not the whole value of a tank. One must take into consideration speed, resourse consumption, everything. There is no doubt that the Tiger was a superb static defense weapon, but idealy, the purpose of a tank is to be a fast, hard-hitting attack vehicle. As much as I love the Tiger (I do enjoy it more so than the Panther) I must admit that even though is was a superior combatat, it was an inferior tank. Keep in mind that the Panther heavily influenced western tank design after the war. P.S. It's great to be having an intelligent argument. I'm so used to "No, the M4A1 Sherman is better you f*g," mentallity of the children in other game forums. Cheers mate!
  11. I find the best place to sit is in the area between Canada and the US. And get close to the shore, too. The closer you get, the better. And yes, I think the cap on the MPP's destroyed is 40. I find that the Battle of the Atlantic is a very fragile thing. With each U-Boot flotilla (I'm assuming they're flotillas) costing 358 MPP's, you really have to be carefull.Early on in the war with the French and the Royal Navy on the prowl, it can and will be costly. Let's assume that you have an U-Boot pulling 10 MPP's per turn. That's 30 and 1/2 turns it has to sit there until it pays for itself. That's a helluva long time. Now, assuming it's going to take some damage along the way, there's the cost of repairs, etc. It will probably take anywhere from 3 to 4 years for your U-Boot to pay itself off (in MPP's). If you care for my advice, I would hold off on any dramatic U-Boot campaign until Germany has secured an Industrial Technology level of at LEAST 2, and a Sub technology of at least 2 as well. The fine line -in my mind- is striking the balance between U-Boot and Armour manufacturing and research. If you dump too much into armour, you risk losing the battle of the Atlantic. If you dump too much into the Battle of the Atlantic, you risk losing the war in Russia. On the other hand, Britain only recieves something to the order of 130 MPP's after the fall of the Low Countries. So, if the U-Boots are sapping 40 per turn along with maybe 10 by the Italians in the Med, then the British economy is sapped of over 1/3 of it's income. Also, when the Americans decide to enter the war, how are they going to transport their troops over when there are 3 U-Boot flotillas sitting outside their harbours? To build or not to build, that is the question. In my opinion, I would have to say yes, build. But, build in moderation. I know it's a kick to see 8 Wolfpacks roaming the waves, but think of the number of tanks you could have thundering across the Russians Steppes with all that steel. Anyway, didn't mean to preach. Have fun.
  12. My pleasure! I'm always looking out for others who are fully appreciative of the capabilities of our hunters of the deep. Here's to good hunting, and big, fat convoys loaded with supplies!
  13. It's good to hear! I myself am greatly interested in the Battle of the Atlantic. I do pretty much what you said, but I prefer to hunt of the Eastern shore of the United States. One U-Boot can sink usualy around 12 MPP in that area. It's a veritable Operation Drumbeat. I was always irritated at how innefective U-Boats were in Axis and Allies, and how their presence didn't dent the English economy. But now, thanks to Hubert and his magnificent game, my Wolves of the Deep shall show thier teeth! Huzzah!
  14. No, the Panther was regarded as the pinacle of German tank design. It's high velocity cannon had better pentration, and although it's armour was not as thick, it was sloped, whereas the Tiger had almost vertical armour all around. The Tiger was slow and cumbersome and it's turret had a slow traverse speed. The Tiger's Maybach engine was underpowered and guzzled gas. In comparison, the Panther had better fuel consumption, higher speed, longer range and better reliability. Although the first Panther (D Model) was a little shaky mechanical-wise, it's subsequent replacement (Panther A) fixed most of the troubles. Although the Tiger was better at fighting in open country (Thanks to almost impenetrable forward armour) the Panther was better in cities and cross country. There's more to a tank's value than it's ability to sit in a forest and dish out ass kickings; it has to be able to drive to that forest first. I love armour.
  15. Yeah, I also found the current way of showing tank levels to be a bit haphazard. I changed it around a bit to something a bit more idiot-proof. I furthered butchered his fine work as you can see: I really hope he doesn't mind. By the way, I put the Tiger before the Panther, because the Panther was a better tank. (And I want to be able to see my beloved Tiger sooner)
  16. Yep, HQ, HQ, HQ. As the Allies, I somehow miraculously found myself with over 500 MPP's for the French. I proptly purchased an HQ, and from then on the war got steadily easier. Especialy when the "Demo Over" message popped up. *Cough*
  17. PL, See my responses to Straha above. That should answer your questions.</font>

  19. Yep, same deal. It's most noticable when you view it with your periferal vision. Especialy when out of one eye. Nice name by the way.
  20. Are we limited to one tank advancement per year? I've dumped full (5) research points into Heavy Tanks as Germans yet can only still pull off a level 2 heavy tank. I've also only been able to get to level 1 anti-tank weapons, level 2 Industial Tech, and level 2 radar. Is there a limiter, or do I just have bad luck?
  21. Exactly how do the difficulty levels change the game play? I've never really experimented with them. Do they actually change how the computer plays, or do they just give the AI better dice rolls or something.

  23. He probably the kind of guy that heaps all the advantages to his side, then triumphs when eliminating an enemy that doesn't even spend his MPP's.
