  1. But is there a reason why setting waypoints couldn't be fast to assign too? Shift-left click is the RTS standard, and for a good reason.

    [/QB]

I don't quite understand what you are saying here. Are you saying it is too slow to assign waypoints? If so, that's BS as all you have to do is left click on the ground where you want the waypoint, and carry on left clicking for further waypoints. Couldn't be faster!

And I very rarely pause, neither am I flying around the map clicking furiously here there and everywhere. As someone stated earlier, SLOW, SLOW, SLOW will win the day. I can imagine a 'rusher' having problems with the UI but this is not a game for 'rushers', it's a game for thoughtful tactical deployments which cuts out the problem you keep on about.

Im getting around 25 to 40+ fps depending on the map size and units. I'm using the The mission with the Airfield."I'm at work so can't look up the name" but the map is huge and there are around 10+ strykers, when the **** hits the fan it sits around 25 no probs.

Ok ickis, thanks for that, I guess my FPS is about average then, which is fine and the game runs smoothly for me too.
  4. What is clumsy to some, is not to others. I have no problems at all with the way the game works, and I have already had lots of enjoyment from the game. Of course people have different opinions, but what are the developers to do, make it right for those of you who want it changed, or make it wrong for those of us who like it as is??

And as for the arty interface..

Its nice to have the options, but sometimes I just want those freaking mortars to start shooting.

Rest of the UI is terrible atm, its nowhere near what we need to use this game on a RTS level.

    Janster

As a former Mortar Fire Controller in the British Army, I can tell you that mortars don't start firing IRL as soon as you send the mortar line the fire mission, so this is pretty much up to scratch in the game. Also you guys moaning about not being able to work out all your commands in RT mode, there is a pause button (ESC) and you can give orders while paused.
  6. Hi ickis, just wondering what you, or anyone else for that matter consider a decent FPS for the game. Most people (yourself included smile.gif ) just say they a a 5 FPS or whatever number increase in FPS but don't say actually how many FPS they are getting in-game.

Currently I'm getting 25-30 FPS with my AMD Athlon 64x2 4800+ Dual Core Rig. It stays the same whether I use the 2 cores or disable one of them. I also have 2 NVidia 7800GT 256MB GPU's not configured in SLI as this was causing problems with selecting units, and I have 2 GB Ram.

  7. I haven't had a lot of problems assaulting buildings. I tend to get the squads in close with the vehicles, pop smoke then use the 'Quick' move command to get the grunts into the building. If you just use the 'Dismount' order they will take up defensive positions close to the vehicle, so use 'Quick' or 'Assault'. I usually bring up a couple more vehicles for more smoke and suppressing fire, anything to make life easy for the grunts. smile.gif

  8. I have to say that at first I dismounted my troops at fairly long range, but after losing 2 or 3 platoons fairly quickly I changed to moving 1 vehicle with mounted troops up quickly, pop smoke and gain entry to a building. I then advance fast with troops mounted, popping smoke before dismounting my infantry squads.

Lots of smoke in these missions helps to protect your grunts, but one thing about smoke I'm not sure about is can you actually point to where you want the smoke, or does it just get thrown out in the direction your squad/vehicle is facing?

They've happily snuck this game into the RTS category now...

So, your up against a whole new slew of mortal enemies on the battlefield.

    - Company of Heroes

    - Close Combat Iron Cross

    - numerous ww2 RTS

You know, when you took the step into the RTS league...it is wise to know the tools they use to control your forces.

It is not anymore possible to be stuck with turn based command systems.

I need 'lasso' to be able to rope units and tell multiple where to go.

I need simple and quick ways of ordering arty strikes

I need to know my units can fire on targets, without me giving them targeting.

I need shift + click waypoints

I need right click + drag ability to change facing of units.

I need none of the submenues, they must ALL go, in return for a more simple and faster command system.

Important orders need to be in my face, so that I can quickly order multiple units in the heat of combat.

    There is tons more aswell.

You have already games that set the standard, when it comes to RTS. Don't try to start from scratch, instead take what they have, and build on it.

Your an RTS now, its time to wisen up, and get sharp.

    Janster

Wrong, all those games can be won by 'rushers'! Try rushing in this game and see if you can win!

    You can lasso units, RTFM.

You don't have to be stuck with turn based commands, play RT.

It takes me about 5 seconds to order arty, wouldn't call that slow.

Units DO fire on targets without the player having to order them to. Have you actually played this game?

Why shift + click waypoints? You can set numerous waypoints by continually left clicking, and if you want to cancel any just use backspace.

Facing units is easy using the command provided.

Everything with you is 'I NEED', well wise up mate, this game wasn't developed just for you. I for one am more than happy with the game system as it is, and I know that lots more are too.

I was really excited about the release of Company of Heroes, but after playing it for about a week I sold it on Amazon, too gamey and the 'rushers' always won. That sort of game isn't for me and NO WAY can it be compared to CMSF!

Hmm, bit of a contradiction in terms there mate. You need to give it more time.

Incidentally, I thought a few times that my vehicles were acting on their own, until I remembered that you have to right click away from the selected unit after giving it orders. If you don't do that you can inadvertently give orders to the last unit you gave orders to instead of to the one you want to give orders to.

Ohhhhhh...I thought you meant in Al Huqf.

Yeah, in some scenarios, there are no additional orders beyond setup because the troops are meant to hold position and defend...that is their objective. </font>

You see, it's not CMx1. That's been Moon's favourite phrase for the last year or so, so I'm sorry if you've heard it before. The point being, the game executes in real time regardless of whether you choose RT or WeGo; hence the CMx1 type "wait fifteen minutes and then skip the replay" WeGo mode just isn't possible.

I guess only Charles would know if acceleration or anything like that would be feasible. But I wouldn't hold my breath on it, because my brain would run out of oxygen in five minutes.

This is 100% a suggestion thread. Pull back on the rah-rah rabid fanboi crap and let people post their thoughts. Blah blah blah this isn't CMx1 blah blah blah. Well guess what? CMx1 was 10x the game that this is turning out to be. I've played the game for about 8 hours and there is marked de-evolution of UI usability.

I'm trying really really hard to like the game, but it's clunky. It's very clunky. So please spare us the "it's not CMx1" red herring BS, because it is BS. This patronizing fanboi crap get's pretty old. </font>

  13. Hi JaguarUSF, I downloaded your scenarios and just played the Saluq Farm one. I enjoyed it a lot and got a Total Victory for the US troops,m albeit on Basic Training. smile.gif

I didn't complete the objectives, time ran out on me but I only had Objective Golf left to secure.

There was some odd pathing by vehicles in this map, I sent one vehicle straight down the road, nothing in it's path at all, but it decided to go off road to the right, across the ditch, then come back to the road across the ditch again before continueing to the spot I sent it to.
