Hey Shadow, are you in London or just sentimentally tied to the regiment?

I received my copy in the mail last Thursday :D but didn't get my computer from the move until yesterday :( (and they broke my computer table, so I still haven't had a chance to look at the game)

There are also color "war badges" including those used by the 8th Army, different German Panzer corps and divisions and the 51st Highland Division (just a few of the 20 in total.)

If anyone would like e-mails of these color pages, post here and I'll scan and send them to you.

A little bit further off-topic, but I hardly think Churchill could be blamed for any tactical failure at Gallipoli....although, as 1st Lord of the Admiralty (I think that's correct), he was responsible for Gallipoli from the strategic side of things.....

From what I understand, the Ib was used as the close support support tank in regiments equipped with Shermans (akin to the Cromwell V/VIII in the 7th Armd Div). I think the numbers were approx 1-2 per sqdn, usually with the HQ.
  5. Canadian troop strengths at the beginning of the operation......I'm not sure of the exact numbers, but the 3rd Canadian Div had spent almost a month in the battle line by the time of Operation Windsor, gaining experience and suffering casualties. Each company would have received replacements for their casualties, but may not have been at full strength for the operation. I would suspect that of a nominal company size of approximately 128 men, each Canadian company would have had between 100-120 men on strength. There are probably others who could narrow this down a bit.

You should search online for a map of the operation....Canadian maps would should the general dispositions of both forces, the axis of the attacks and Canadian objectives....German maps might show where their assets would be distributed (gun/artillery/mortar/mg emplacements). If not online, then the local library is a wealth of info.

  6. Operation Windsor

Attack by reinforced brigade of 3rd Canadian Infantry Division.

8th Canadian Infantry Brigade (w/ Royal Winnipeg Rifles under command)

    - under Brig/Gen Blackader

    Support units:

    - 21 regiments of artillery

    - 16-inch guns of HMS Rodney

    - 2 squadrons of Typhoons (w/ rockets)

    - 3 squadrons of Fort Garry tanks (from 2nd Canadian Armoured Brigade)

    - several Sherman Crabs, Churchill AVREs & Churchill Crocodiles (from 79th Armoured Division)

43rd Wessex Division was supposed to advance on right flank of Canadian 3rd Division.

One squadron of Sherbrooke Fusiliers to make diversionary attack on Franqueville (left flank).

    Canadian Casualties: 377 (w/ 127 dead)

I could probably locate names for several company and squadron commanders of the Canadian units.

(My uncle drove a Sherman with "C" Squadron of the Sherbrookes at the time of the attacks on Franqueville).

  7. I think the Canadian unit was the first to be used exclusively in the APC role though....There is a great website dedicated to the 1st CACR .....they were 1st known as the 1st Cdn APC Sqdn in Aug '44, then expanded to a full Regt in Oct '44....the British 49th APC Regt was created in Nov '44 (from the 49th RTR)....great stuff.

  8. Well, I'm not exactly sure what this Spiggot Mortar is, but it doesn't appear to be a piece of equipment that would be commonplace.

I do have a totally unrelated question that you might be able to answer for me though.

You were quoting from the NZ Official Histories and I was wondering if you might have any info on the regimental insignia worn by NZ troops in the Mediterranean?

    I have that mod. tongue.gif

Actually, I was away on family vacation for all of May and wasn't monitoring the forum. I am still interested in making this available to everyone in a CMMOS format but I'm not sure if you received my email. Drop me a line and we can discuss it.

Oh yeah, I am also in the VERY early stages of collating the necessary research for the Commonwealth units in the MTO. ;)

Well, I think the whole point of modding for the game is to make it as easy as possible for people to implement the mods....nobody wants to download then be forced to assemble the sleeves themselves.
  11. I just took another look at the actual size of my finished product, and it weighs in at a whopping 135 megs for ALL of the sleeves of ALL of the battalions of ALL of the Commonwealth units from the 21st Army Group in NWE.

I'll bet that would scare away any potential hosting sites right there. ;)

  12. I've never actually asked anyone to host this work because of the size involved (I think it weighs in at a total of approx 50 megs  ).

Michael Dorosh hosted my first offering a long time ago on his "Canuck" site (which is a great site btw) but that was limited to just Canadian stuff at the time (which was all redone in my latest work). There were just so many options available in this set that it was begging for CMMOS compatibility (which I wasn't sure how to implement to best effect).

To answer your request, if you'd like something specific emailed to you, just send me a private email and I'll see what I can do.

If there's still interest in this stuff being made available somewhere, I'm willing to go that route as well.

And I can see that soon I'll have to get ready for the Commonwealth in the MTO as well....geez, my wife is going to hate me.

  13. With regard to the arm patches,

I completed extensive arm patches for the whole of the Commonwealth forces in NWE (including Commandos and SAS) way back in early September of last year. I was collaborating with Phillipe on preparing them for CMMOS but then CMBB was released and everything fell by the wayside. My Commonwealth portion of the project would have been quite a large download and I think this was part of the problem.

  14. I work with a guy who drove recce vehicles for the GGHG during their deployment to the Balkans in the 90's....he mentioned that you would feel very conspicuous being inside the vehicle on operations. The recce vehicles have to rely on their speed and spotting the enemy before he spots them (some high calibre small arms fire could penetrate the armour on those vehicles). I would suppose that being in a tank makes it feel very much like every eye on the battlefield is watching you.

He said he lost three tanks in Normandy: one to a Shreck, one to a mine ("We wondered why it stopped moving") and one to a "damned 88."

It killed the driver and gunner and almost took his lower half off. He has scars running down his things and legs like dry riverbeds and a toe that was smashed to pulp.

The sad thing is he had to fight for years with the Canadian government to get the disability payments he not only was owed, but deserved ten times over.

    Cheers,

    Jason

My Great Uncle was a Sherman tank driver with the Sherbrooke Fusiliers ("C" Squadron)....he was wounded during the fighting at the Falaise Gap. Unfortunately he passed away recently, so I can't ask him about the experience.
  16. Okay, I checked the forums and didn't find a recent post about this.

I have freshly installed CMMOS with version 4.02, dl'd ALL of the mods from CMHQ and began installing them. I'm working with the CMBO CMMOS mods right now and installed each of the 4 rulesets (Allied, German, Misc, Terrain) then I installed all of the Allied CMMOS mods from CMHQ.

On checking on how they were functioning in CMMOS, I discovered that several of the mods were not located under the Winter Allied Vehicles tab. Now I know I installed the winter mods for the Cromwell, Comet and Challenger, but there are no tabs in CMMOS to switch between Whitewashed and Winter textures (though I know both textures were installed). Similarly, there's no tab for several of the American vehicles.

Now, I am wondering if this is an oversight in the rulesets or if the single button (with the Sherman/jeep picture) changes all of the winter textures at once? It's a bit confusing as the Americans/French equipment is usually changed together and the British/Canadians/Polish equipment is usually changed as a group.

Thank you in advance for any clarification.
