  1. Hopefully, by the time the next two modules get released (MG, Odds & Ends), a good selection of the following will be included:

Commandos & US Rangers (both seem like nice inclusions for the final module)

    Stuart Recce

    Challenger

    Centaur IV

    Sherman II & V DD

    Churchill III

    Daimler Armoured Car

    AEC III Armoured Car

Cdn Lynx (actually, I'm not sure how many of these made their way into Normandy)

    Cdn Fox Scout Car

    Humber I/II

    M3 75mm Halftrack

    79th Armoured Div units

    Kangaroo

    Priest (de-frocked carrier)

    LVT4 Buffalo

    Churchill AVRE

    Churchill VII Crocodile

Sherman V Crab (even without a rotating flail it would be cool)

Grant CDL (I doubt this will be included)

    Wasp

    Staghound AA

    Crusader AA

That would cover practically every vehicle issued to CW units in the Jun - Nov 44 time frame. Many of the units are close to existing models as well, so I would hope that would cut down on the work to model them. It would also make the final module pretty worthwhile for all the extra vehicles available for creating scenarios.

  2. Well, that took some doing to re-activate my old handle (email has changed since the last time I logged in). I had no real interest in the modern era stuff but kept checking in every blue moon. Imagine my surprise to see a new game coming within a month.

I loved the old CM games and spent a lot of time in the uniform/vehicle modding sphere but the time away was good for rejuvenating my excitement for the franchise.

Now I just need the module containing my Commonwealth troops so that 21st AG can take the field once more.

Plus I have a renewed interest in Arnhem since I discovered that I had relatives that lived there throughout the war.

  3. I guess you learn something new every day....I was not aware that we (Canada) fought in the Pacific War except for the 2 battalions at Hong Kong in '41 and the Aleutian Islands (never really had much interest in the Pacific Campaign though, so there's a lot I don't know about that theatre).....

The other thing I wanted to mention was with regards to the 1st Cdn Tank Bde history....Michael, have you ever gone through the Royal Canadian Armoured Corps History? I have a copy of it and it had the information about how the brigade was equipped for Sicily; also, this book should still be in print (or at least accessible).

We used the Sherman III and Sherman V, but I don't recall off hand which corresponds to which US model designation. I think Sherman III was the M4A4 with Chrysler Multi-bank engine and 6 extra inches of hull length. Sherman V may have been M4A1 but you'd need to talk to a Sherman grog. They are definitely in the game, though, just look under S instead of M.

    Creeeaaaakkk....CLANK!!!

    [opening my seldom used hatch]

Sherman III = M4A2 Sherman (twin in-line diesel engine)

Sherman V = M4A4 Sherman (Chrysler 30 cylinder multibank gas engine)

    Sherman Vc Firefly = M4A4 Sherman w/ 17pdr gun

    Sherman IB = M4(105mm) Sherman

    Errrr...uhhhhh...ugh....

    Damn, the hatch is stuck....

Okay, who forgot to grease the bloody hinges on the hatch!

I've seen examples of the insignia being sewn directly onto the KD and of the insignia being placed on removeable pieces of cloth that hung down from the shoulder straps (can't remember the name of this at the moment), so you aren't wrong either way. I have not ever seen Canadian insignia on shoulder strap loops. smile.gif

Well it does help to a point. Switching to BFC is not really a good option. My US '44 and '45 uniforms and the US flags are themselves mods which are not CMMOS. I now use the McMMM to re-install them whenever they are altered. So far so good.

To which info files do you refer? Is there among your 24 mod files a single file which has info that addresses this issue?

Also, what do you mean by "try-to-imagine-this-is-a-Grant CDL?"

Again, I thank and congratulate you on your brilliant work!

    Steve

Well, switching to BFC originals to wipe the slate clean was only one option...I mean you can just switcht to whichever uniform set you were using (ATF's US uniforms for example)...but your solution works just as well. smile.gif

The vehicles became an add-on project and I had to deal with them as best I could. The Grant facsimile was created to represent the Grant CDL AFV that equipped one of the brigades in the 79th Armd Div...it saw limited service in NWE but it was there and I have attempted to simulate it by using a modified Priest (I read that the Priest and the Grant had the same basic chassis/suspension)....obviously it can't be perfect but I was trying to be as complete as possible. By choosing one of the Grant CDL equipped units, this would apply the mod to the Priest, so that you could choose the Priest from the American unit selection window and have a British Grant CDL with British crew/flags. Similar issues arise from the use of the MP Mods, or even the Commandos (which are simulated using airborne troops).

As to the Info files....There is a main Information file that can be viewed from the Rule-set installation window when you highlight my ruleset....just click in the window and use PageDown to scroll). There are also individual info files for each rule (there is a lot of information included in these)...as an example, try this...

    1) go to my ruleset and scroll to the vehicle section

    2) click on the 79th Armd Div Normandy rule

    3) in the window beside the icon, scroll through the information....they are all set up in a similar fashion: a quick overview of the rule; some Notes; a very brief unit history with some useful tidbits of info; some Special Notes (where you'll find the info on compromises I had to make, like the Grant CDL); and finally a section on Unit Organization & Composition. Unfortunately, I couldn't find a way to make the viewing space larger, but it is all in there. ;)

DK, your 21st AG mod is magnificent. How can this problem be fixed?

The easiest and most sure way to fix the problem (it's not really a problem as there was a purpose for this) is to switch to the BFC originals when you want to change your flags back...the flags can also change to Dutch, Belgian or Czech versions depending on the uniforms used.

The American uniform issues are covered in the readme files....basically, here are some of the issues:

    1) the British Airborne MP's are depicted by altering American troops;

    2) some Artillery units may alter the American BMPs;

    3) some AFVs alter American BMPs (the Sherman Ib, for instance);

    4) my try-to-imagine-this-is-a-Grant CDL alters American BMPs because it is based on the Priest chassis.

Ther may be a few others but I'm sure that I noted any of these issues in the info files (along with plenty of additional useful info).

I deal with it by clicking on new base uniforms for the American units if I want to use them for a game.

    Hope this helps.

    DK

And if we're getting into specific vs general, I'd have to recommend the RCR Regimental Museum in London, ON...it is very good (but as mentioned, only deals with the one regiment).

    Which one?

I understand the Naval Museum will be moving to the Museum of the Regiments so that all facilities will be under one roof - is that just a rumour? </font>

  9. It should all be there, but I'm sure someone would find things to correct me on....

As to the uniforms, I don't have the program in front of me right now so I can't test it, but there are options for AndrewTF's uniforms right in the ruleset (you don't have to download Andrew's uniforms from the uniform ruleset)....in fact, I recommend using the ones set up in the Army Group ruleset because I did arrange them differently. Simply go to the ruleset, choose a base uniform, then apply the insignia decals (and always start at the base uniform to clear the old details before adding new ones or you might end up with some strange results).
