1. You've redeemed yourself Mr. Wacky. Thanks for the prompt service, I wasn't expecting another night owl.
2. Blast it, where do you find it? How increadibly distressing.
3. Its for smashing through the sides of pillboxes, IIRC. It used a HESH round in real life, but in the game to get the desired effect on pillboxes it is classified as a hollow charge in-game. So as far as the game is concerned, its a giant Panzershreck flying at enemy troops. Its not exactly a QB weapon, and the only use in a scenario would be against a very deep series of fortifications where the rear of the first line was protected by emplacements farther back. Using the AVRE you could push into one spot and take out pillboxes in the first line from the side, as opposed to a risky shot from the front or rear (if its protected) Someone else can tell you more about its RL use and specs.
4. Try smoking the AT pillboxes and trying to eliminate the MG ones with your tanks. Adjust the fire on your smoke to make it last longer as well. You could also split up your infantry and try to advance/draw fire from the AT pillboxes. Check your cover as well and see if you can block the LOS of a certain AT pillbox while in cover using tank smoke, using that gap in the defense to advance your tanks/infantry to the next spot of cover. Looks like you have a long chess game ahead of you. Just remember that a box doesnt need to be smoked forever, just while your guys are moving. When they're not moving, ideally they should be out of sight.
5. Speaking of interface mods, I could have sworn I saw some 'thin-target lines' a while back. I've had absolutely zero luck finding them. Oh, and friendly prod for mensch to finish that interface. Looks nice!
6. Hmmm, have we heard anything about this getting improved on for CM:BB? I stopped playing Advance Operations alltogether because of this bug. Also, go read the Extreme FAQ, you'll find some of your beefs being answered there. Cover arcs will help tank turret rotation, Move to Contact orders will help with your infantry problem, etc etc. [ February 02, 2002, 01:31 PM: Message edited by: Equinox ]
7. Another. Still fleshing out my collection though, and eagerly awaiting Fields and Streams.
8. Assuming they even release it on the same day... They said "after the game is done" no? For all we know they might wait until a week after the initial die-hard players made their order to release a demo for the other more cautious consumers.
9. Another little tidbit, and a bump. http://www.battlefront.com/cgi-bin/bbs/ultimatebb.cgi?ubb=get_topic&f=1&t=023126
quote:
In CMBB the AI will button and unbutton as it sees fit. Due to many vehicles having two man turrets you will also see TC's buttoning up in order to fire. The TacAi is aware that being unbuttoned near enemy infantry is unwise and will take neccesary precautions and when they feel the coast is clear will then unbutton. Madmatt

10. According to the somewhat reclusive Extreme CMBB FAQ thread, yes.
quote:
Will there be new Command and Control Features? "Command and control is being entirely reworked for the new game. Tanks may now be organized in platoons, and it's important for leaders to keep their platoon tanks in contact. This is a lot easier to do if they're equipped with radios, but the Soviets often lacked radios up through 1943. That means that the Soviets often must open their hatches and communicate with hand signals, which is very dangerous when people are shooting at you! Without platoon communication, command delay penalties become pretty severe. Worse yet for the Soviets is that early T-34 tanks, with two-man turrets and no radio, required the tank commander to drop down into the turret in order to fire the main gun, automatically taking him out of visual contact with the other tanks in his platoon. This creates a serious command problem for the Soviet player in Combat Mission: Barbarossa to Berlin. 11. Try setting up bocage boxes and put your test pieces inside. Box off an area with reasonable width and length appropriate to your test (1k/500m/250m etc) and place your testers inside. In the adjacent box have another test setup using a different range. So long as the tanks arn't too close to the bocage they will never see each other and you'll be free to test away without fear of flank shots ruining your data.
12. Sgt. Lipton was the one who narrated the episode during the Battle of the Bulge, named simply "Bastogne" if I remember correctly. He was also the one who caught a piece of shrapnel near his groin during the assault on Carentan. Ambrose said it was a mortar round in his book, but in the movie showed it as a round from an AT gun. If it still doesn't ring a bell, you can look him up on the HBO page where they give a picture of the actor and a short biography.
13. I'm guessing CombinedArms is referring to this thread. I havnt had time to read alll of it just yet, but Im guessing thats the one. [ 12-16-2001: Message edited by: Equinox ]

14. He's probably compaining bout CD checks and copyright protection for games in general, I'd imagine. They annoy me too, but they're practically a fact of life now. Be happy they dont use SafeDisk2, one of the more annoying, restrictive and buggy protection systems Ive heard of. EDIT: Since it requested, here is an "extemely abnormal" error message. I figure the admins will get around to this thread sooner or later anyway.
quote:
Sorry, UBB has encountered an unexpected, fatal error. This error is extremely abnormal.
