  1. With this kind of QB, "The computer giveth and the computer taketh away". Playing like this does sound challenging. Maybe you could achieve nearly the same effect by choosing your own units and limiting your purchase to half the points that the computer gets.
  2. I have added 8, 14" arty. If you want a copy then send me an email to mej023@earthlink.net
  3. You think thats wierd? I had split a squad. Sent one half ahead to the next clump of forest. They came under machine gun attack. Someone screamed. I checked casualties. The split squad under fire did not have any. The split squad left behind had 2. Bizarre but true. I think its just a bug...the casualty was applied to the entire squad. I had an enemy surrender and as they were raising their arms was shot by one of my squad and eliminated.
  4. Of course your right, a zook who just shot his last shot is pretty worthless in this game. I just hate to add to my enemy's body count.
  5. They are probably right. But - In real life I could say to a soldier, run through these woods, shoot one shot from your bazooka at a tank and then high tail your butt out of there. It just kills me when I mis time my moves and I have a bazooka guy who just shot his last shot and is sitting there watching the turrent turning towards him without thinking about running until its too late.
  6. Is there a way to simulate giving an order to your men that is something like, "Run here, shoot and then run away"? I understand that the only current way to simulate this is to use pauses so that your unit arrives at the desired spot with just enough time to fire off one shot and using the subsequent orders phase to order the unit away. Is this the only way to achieve this?
  7. I drove a Sherman Crok over some mines once (didn't know they were there) - stopped, decided to reverse and BOOM! my tank blew up. Maybe the attacker can only see them when the tank is unbuttoned and moving in Hunt mode.
  8. As soon as I figure out how to post an image, I will show you an instance where I was playing a scenario I created called Bazooka Hunt and a HQ unit killed a King Tiger and one crew member using two grenades 25 meters from the front of the tank. No kidding.
  9. I also want to say that lately - I have been yelling things to my troops during Action Movies, like, "Shoot! SHOOT!!!! NOW!!!" I bet my family thinks I've gone bonkers.
  10. I have had the game for 45 days and it is the most addictive game I have ever played. You will most definately enjoy this awesome game! Like they said to me (actually two things) - "Welcome to the Addiction!" and later, "You have been assimilated", and I have.
  11. I hear that! It was surreal being 120 meters from a monster like that and having 10 to 12 shots just bounce off with no effect (well one did get a track hit). The scary part was the JagdTiger was not shooting back! I was thinking something was wrong...then suddenly the Sherman 105 starts backing up - the JagdTiger shoots and blows that tank to smithereens! Thats when I knew I had to get behind that beast to take it out. Lucky I had two 81 Arty FO's that could lay smoke in 6 seconds. Which goes to say that it is a good thing to let your FO's hang near the action!
  12. Question is - can you get 100% KIA before they surrender? and if you do get a 100% would there be anyone left to surrender? Amazing that any enemy troops survive at all. The most KIA I have got is around 250.
  13. Yeah, Cribtop! Way to cover those zooks! You have to jump on the AI and stomp it hard. If you got it, its great to smoke the AI and then rush em when their blind! Just got to remember those gamey AI crews!
  14. I agree, the distances are too short to justify loading/unloading and moving all those halftracks. I usually reserve some fast .50 scouts/halftracks capable of carrying a FO, Bazooka, or mortar team in order to move those assets where needed - quickly. Once I have a forward objective captured then I will drive a FO up in preparation for shelling the next objective.
  15. Hey Sergeant Saunders - your indiscriminate shelling ignited some sort of explosive device in a two story house that had an Elite Sharpshooter hiding in it. Just at the 60 Second mark a round came in from town (almost sure it was a shell from a tank) and hit the back side of the house. A secondary explosion then happened in the middle of the house and I heard the sharpshooter scream, "My arm!, My leg" and then he was eliminated. You are seriously messing with my second recon team!
  16. This game is going to get me in trouble. Went home at lunch and started playing a night QB. Ran into a JagdTiger hiding next to some woods near a VL. Machine gun emplacement dugin in the middle of the woods. My two Sherman 105 Infantry Support Tanks and one of my Pershings are sitting in the open 120 meters away firing like mad and all shells are bouncing or breaking up. One shot immobilized the JagdTiger which then shot one of the Shermans causing a catastrophic explosion. (that new explosion mod is awesome) I dropped smoke around the machinegun and enemy tank. Had three squads of elite allied 45's rush the machinegun emplacement and had 3 bazooka's run to the woods edge facing the rear of the JagdTiger. Three shots and the third bazooka man got the kill. The enemy crew jumps out of tank pissed as hell. Rush into the woods and point blank murder two bazooka teams and half of the third before one of the squads covering open up and kill the enemy crew. I have got to remember those crew guys carry weapons! Keep those bazooka's covered. Of course by this time I was late getting back from lunch. Man this game is addictive.
  17. If your defending then this would definately be a way to force the attacker to use a different avenue of advance. One disadvantage is all that fire and smoke would further limit your potential LOS.
  18. Do any of you guys print out maps and do detailed planning when you have the time (vis a vis PBEM)? What kind of planning do you do? Any procedures from real life that you can point out to a rookie? (I hate the term newby)
  19. Well, she is a good wife. Listens very patiently while I explain to her how I am busting your asses on the playing field. She just smiles and tells me how good I am. God, I hope she doesn't get the idea of burning my CD. That would hurt worse than when the 7 year old put the dog on the hood of the car and scratched it all to hell.
  20. Thanks Herr Kruger for a really fine suggestion. I think I will do it!
  21. I have only had this game for one month. Yesterday my wife made a comment about losing me to the game. I'm sure it was an innocent thing. Sure, I might play and think about this game all my waking moments but heh - its a GREAT game. What can I say?
  22. I have got to warn you. Playing with the Artillery Test Range is extremely addictive! I tested it a few times with my Klipsch 400 Watt woofer turned up and the camera at ground zero - OH MY GOD - the screen shaking and the house shaking... You will enjoy playing with this!
  23. I am wrapping up the finishing touches on a really cool Artillery Test Range. On this test range (playing as Allies) you are supplied with four each of every type of artillery including 60 mm and 81 mm mortars. The FO's are Elite, come with maximum load of artillery shells and are guided by a fully decked out Battalion Command Unit and a fully decked out Company Command Unit (both elite) FO's are located on a elevated firebase at one end of the map. There is line of site over the entire map which is broken up by a small town, a river and broken forests which provides several natural chokepoints and some wide open areas that the enemy has to cross. The enemy I have been testing with is a German Infantry Battalion and a German Armored Infantry Battalion. The test range is excellent for developing your timing in calling down artillery strikes on moving opponents - Plus its just dang cool to watch 8 105 artillery pieces decimate a dozen halftracks in under a minute or watch 4 8 inchers drive infantry away from a bridge. Like I said, I am almost finished with this (it is a lot of fun to play with!) and I'm sure some of you will want to check it out. If you do, let me know and I will send you a copy.
