***NEWS ALERT***** After a lot of testing I can officially say that if a battle is not played out to the end of "in game" allowed time it will not score properly. Both Surrenders and Ceasefires are affected. Those scores will display properly until the Round's time has ended. Then penalties that should not apply are applied. Battles fought through to the end of in game time will display the correct scores.

We're working to figure out if it is the severs or the game that is causing this. Until that's sorted out, I strongly recommend playing ALL battles out until the end. Even if it's just clicking the red square each time you get a file. *********

Games that are not completed before a Round is finished can and should have penalties applied.

That is interesting this effects both CFs and surrenders. Ok then, no cease firing and surrendering. Hope everybody else gets the memo.

Also I take it my score will eventually get manually corrected?

Right now the theory is that 1 of 2 things happened. Either both players did not complete the turns by clicking End from the final AAR screen OR the game did not send the "that was the last turn" message to the servers and a penalty was awarded because a player "stopped playing"/abandoned the battle.

My guess is the game isn't sending the "last turn" msg to the server.

Has something changed for the mods folder location in this series?

I've been away for a while (I've gotten very interested in a regimental-level ACW board game) and came back to update all of my CM games. My primary hard drive is nearly full, so I took the CMBN Data and Games files folders out of my Documents folder and moved them all to the "Z" folder in CMBN>Data >Z.

No matter what I've tried, I cannot get my mods to show up.  I've been in the series since its incarnation, have every bit of every game, and they're all heavily modded.  I've not had any problems with any of the other games, but the CMBN mods will not show.

I wonder if deleting the CMBN folder on my C : drive has something to do with this, but it hasn't affected FI, RT, FB, or the others...

    Thanks in advance

Unless something has recently changed, everything CMBN installs goes into the main install directory. Nothing should be in the documents folder. CMBN is the only CM2 game that does this. All the others put the games files/user data into the documents folder. So your mods z folder should be on the C drive ...CMBN/data/z. Something about Microsoft changed something but CMBN had already shipped.

I'd backup your mods folder, grab the latest installer and do a clean install.

I have had the same problem in the blitzkrieg tournament. I believe it is a problem with how their scoring system handles surrenders. It counts as if the battle never finished as you never reached the final turn.

That does ring a bell as I think this happen to me before in the CMBN tourney when my opponent surrendered there.

    6 hours ago, BFCElvis said:

Possibly but at one point the proper scores were displayed.

That is interesting! Are you sure that pic was snapped after the tourney? Because it appears it wasnt as it says above the score " Currently playing" and not the "Ended on" date. Which is what I've seen before. It records the scores correctly but then makes the wrong timed out adjustment afterwards. I've never seen a second change in scores post tourney.

In a nutshell, it appears it treats the person accepting the surrender as quitting or timing out as they cant return another file. In other words, the system cant tell the difference between a surrender and somebody quitting. Hence the timed out penalty.

Also, because I think surrenders do sometimes get calculated correctly. Something that might play a factor is who starts the battle and who surrenders. As in, if I start the battle then I can accept the surrender correctly. Where as if my opponent is the battle starter and surrenders then the system miscalculates it.

Now that Round 1 is done, I want to thank MHerm for a great set of games.  Both were hard fought battles, and yes you did pronounce my last name correctly.

Looking forward now to Round 2.  I must say that I really like this concept of Syrian vs. Syrian as it should result in balanced force capabilities and thus lead to outcomes that are more of a reflection of player strategy and skill, and lucky (or not so lucky) breaks here and there.

Which segways into something that happened to me in Round 1 that I kept amongst myself and the BFC team while things were being played out.  I am wondering if anyone else playing had this happen to them as well.  For my Red-Side (Rebel) game, I never received the two pick-up truck mounted AA-guns.  Which was totally weird.  Anyone else have that happen?  Fortunately, whatever this quirk was, it happened on only two marginal units, and not for example, to my T-62 units.  Anyways, just curious.

Oh that’s right, forgot about this, I never got one either.

That would be disappointing if it doesn't end up finishing. People can have disagreements, but I would hope that an "invitational" tournament would have people who want to play and finish games against the best the game has to offer. @Artkin last said that he was busy when I last was able to contact him on the 20th of March, so hopefully he will have some time freed up so we can complete.

Sure hope his dislike for the area fire order isn't playing a factor in playing. Interesting how he was very active in that discussion while not playing your game. Hate to see unfinished games in the first invitational tourney for CM. In my nearly 25 yrs of playing CM1 and 2 in lots of tourneys/campaigns/ladders, I've never come across a player wanting a house rule for restricted area fire use.

Hope you guys can finish up, think you got until the 14th.

Ah see when I created this I'd higher spec T-72s, But they wiped the T-62s so I down graded em. Even then in my playtest it was a close thing.

I am intrigued to see what the AARs say when this phase is done.

I did manage to KO a T62 frontally and gotta 2nd one from the side. I dont think I lost a single one in my attack. Though did have some with broken guns, I think 3.

Wasn't my finest performance. My defence plan was entirely ruined to the unexpected poor performance of the T72s. I would take T72s from cold war any day over these pieces of scrap metal.

And typical of me, I messed up the timing of my attack so more troops were killed then needed before the arty could do its work.

Hey there you are! Yeah I quickly changed my defense plan after running some T72 vs T62 tests. CMSF2 is least played for me, so needed to do this. I initially had them all back with the BMPs for a full frontal challenge. But thankfully you were a bit slow coming out of the gate which bought me time to reposition most my AFVs into ambush/keyhole spots. I think it worked out better than my initial plan.

Thanks for the quick turn rate and good game! 👍

Thanks @cargol. Good game and excellent turn rate. I think the T72s let us both down 🤕

Great fun and cant wait for the next @George MCscenario. The desert has never looked better!

On that other note, I think players that dont finish their games in tournaments should be banned for a period or something.

Agreed on the T72s, they probably let everybody down! Its sure tough KOing those T62s, that ERA is a game changer. I did some last min testing and found this out after my setup. But was able to readjust my defense after the start.

Also a side note, those ATGMs from the T62s pretty much suck. From both my games it appeared to do nothing after several hits, except one broke a gun. The HEAT shells killed every time they hit.

The way to think of this is a juggler who keeps throwing another thing up into the air to juggle at once.  The more diverse the objects are in terms of size, grip, weight, etc. the more difficult it is to juggle.  Dropping a ball here or there might not matter, but if a chainsaw is thrown poorly and it comes down on the juggler's head, the show is over.

    Steve

Best analogy ever! And I think there’s something wrong with me because I LOL for like 5 straight mins imagining this! 😄

Hi all, its been a while... in fact so long that I had to create a new account for the Forums... Anywho I started revamping some of my old work so it will play better in Game Engine 4.x and also I am back to creating some new scenarios (some fictional, some semi-historical)... Also redid my Combat Mission Site (haven't touched it in 7 years)... Since I lost touch with all the people that use to playtest for me I ask if you have feedback; Good, Bad, and/or Ugly that you submit that via the Feedback button in the site's menu... I have done extensive testing on the vs. AI battles but, the Head to Heads I have not been able to test... Well I am active again, who knows for how long but I do have a lot of time on my hands and a lot of scenarios/campaigns on the production schedule...  You can check every thing out at Fredrockers Combat Mission Site ... Enjoy

Hey welcome back buddy, good to see you back in action! 👍

Area targeting a problem for all tournaments and regular multiplayer games.

No its not, its part of the game. Opposing forces quite often fire on one another without seeing each other. Often referred to as suppressive or harassing fire. Although it does give the player an advantage vs the AI since the AI doesnt do this.

But if you dont like area targeting thats fine too, find an opponent that will play by this odd rule. Just dont expect something like this in any tourney.

Hello, I recently opened a support ticket to restore an old account. I read here they sometimes recommend posting in the forums about this issue as well, so this is what I know: I have tried a couple times to follow the instructions to reset my password as instructed on the main news page with no luck, it says ‘Can not find specified username and email address in database’. I think the problem is that the log in is so old that at the time your username was also your email address unless you changed it, as indicated in the 2018 news post asking everyone to reset passwords. I have not found any evidence in my records that I manually changed my username to something other than my email address, which is still correct and active.

I just wanted to see if it was worth posting here in case Elvis or someone could help behind the scenes - I am trying to resolve this quickly so I can take advantage of the Battlefront sales before they end. If anyone wants my ticket number or relevant details please let me know here that you DMd me.

    Thank You for you help!
