Happy to oblige, Croda. Lets see, where has that rapscallion Aussie Jeff gone off to?

    Game result:

Berli's men in camouflage put a wicked, wicked spell on my brown-suited tea drinkers and defeated them in battle. The victory is all mine, however, for Berli already fights wussl for the name of Peng, and Joe Shaw is back in the saddle again.

  2. Free MrPeng!

C'mon people, this game just is't the same without our favorite looney in his proper attire. Clearly the stakes were too high, permanent loss of name... BAH! Even a blood hamster match only exacts a penalty for a month. It couldn't possibly be clearer that conspiracy is the cause.

Handsoap, congratulations on your future appointment as resident thug... *heh* May you perform this task better than you return files. I'd challenge you, but excuses don't complete scenarios.

Actually, I believe this one will go the way of Anouilh's "Beckett". From bosom chums, we will descend to being at odds, then into anger, and finally, in a drunken and enraged state, I'll make a casual comment and several Seniour Knights will hunt him down and kill him.

It'll end in tears, I tell you. I just know it.

This simply doesn’t work. It was Beckett who was the enlightened man, and the King who was the whimpering spoiled child. The irony of the story would be entirely lost if one such as yourself were to play the part of the fool. As you have described it the killing would be entirely just. Get your roles straight man!

There really is a shortage of good opponents around here. May be Berli can offer a good fight. If so, put me on your list to lose too.

Berlichtingen you have stooped very low indeed in order to accept such a limp challenge as this one. The ignoble Noba has cast such a weak challenge at your feet that I am shocked at your easy acceptance. Even so your tolerant acceptance is somehow understood since the door was left hanging wide open.

Once there was a disturbance in The Force. George Lucas then sold his soul to the highest bidders and lost all true vision of the archetypal hero. Joseph Campbell must be spinning in his grave. Now there are ripples in The Pool. Will we all stand by to watch the paragon of Combat Mission challenge forums suffer a similar fate? This warrior will not allow that to happen!

From the depths of my soul I offer thee a challenge, Berlichtingen. Your gauntlet has been tossed and, picking it up, I thrust it into your face. *SQUISH* What are the terms? You set them, Jester of Darkness.

I have two reasons to fight you: Joe Shaw is being drained of color and MrPeng has not the support of an Olde One. The choice is difficult, yet clear. Should I win our contest you will give your full support to the reinstatement of MrPeng’s proper name. chrisl’s puny victory will not stand a chance against a unified front. If you best me in battle (as if that were even possible), I will smash Noba for you, and grant a wish.

In other news, as Leeo has already stated, I have wiped a map with his forces. He is coming back for more! Unfortunately this doesn’t count for much, for I am a lowly SSN.

Gee Leeo, "Sludge" sounds like a compliment here in the upside-down world of the Pool and "69" makes me feel a full 10 years younger... Thank you! As for the "edge hugging", it should be clear to all that any map smaller than the planet Uron is just not big enough and simply indicates the inadequacy of today’s' desktops. Why did Steve and Charles make edges if we weren't meant to use them???

As for your malady, try some kefir, or better yet fresh acidophilus in pill form.

  6. Many good points have been made here. It's refreshing to see that many players consider life important.

Because this is a game, sayings like "lose the battle, win the war", and "live to fight another day" do not apply. For the same reason, opposing forces are generally far more balanced with one another, and have only nominal difficulties with supply. (Historical scenario design can help here)

Map size is limited by necessity. This takes much of the guesswork out of finding kill zones.

As Franko has pointed out, we all cheat with our nearly omniscient overhead view of the map.

As Andrew Hedges says in his sig: "Play Green Troops! The secret to realism in CM." This certainly helps IMO.

Loose the title Joe. If you had been doing your job correctly, we wouldn't have floaters like FlossieJeff

Did you mean, "lose the title" or "loose the title"? Perhaps you meant to say, "loosen the title", not that that really makes sense either.

You think you can kick good old Joe around just because you are one of the Olde Whiners??? He adds color to this thread, he does! It'd be awfully dull around here if you were to institute any real discipline.

    GO Joe!

    GO Joe!

    GO Joe!

It's been nearly 48 hours since I've had a return file from Leeo... BAH. Come out and fight like a Pooler Leeo! You know that there is no place left to hide. You have depleted your supply of rickets on mere diversionary scouts. It is time for some old fashioned Yankee Medicine. The only possible reason for this untimely delay is your uncontrollable fear of the inevitable!

Give him hell guys. I'll be looking forward to your AARs. Heh heh heh!

  9. Sounds realistic to me. What would you do if you were ordered to an unsecured position and ambushed in the open along the way? Panic? Go for the nearest cover? Continue your orders to the best of your ability? The game models all of these and more. Many things can happen in the split second of an ambush trigger. Your men may not have known where the fire was even coming from.

Perhaps one day when computer hardware is more advanced, squads will split up and disperse.
