  1. Good work Apache!! When are you starting 42, then I won't feel so alone BTW - just hit the unit availability part for the Allieds - I found a Unit availability chart for armor at CM Mod database, but I need one for division types for 42... Unlikely it's out there I imagine... Anyone know? [ February 15, 2003, 04:28 PM: Message edited by: Biltong ]
  2. Hi Apache - some good ideas here (as per normal) , but I don't have time now - copy/pasted them onto the list to check later... Busy with 42
  3. 42 South Appendix B - Crossing over from 41 Changes Your excellent performance during 41 has not gone unnoticed. You are hereby appointed to a new command. Your new Battle Group consist of: "1 Fallschirmjager Company (German/Airborne) - 510 - Regular - Experience: 20. 1 Platoon of 3 x Sturmgeschutz IIIB - 244 - Regular - Experience: 15. 1 Platoon of 4 x Panzer IIIJ (Short) - 306 - Regular - Experience: 10. " Obviously you lose any Attached Units you had in 41." Use the same modifiers (weather etc) as the last 2 weeks of Dec for now... I'll post changes as I make them (for you and discussion) Later [ February 15, 2003, 10:01 AM: Message edited by: Biltong ]
  4. Thanx must go to Manstein and the other designers - I've only got one map out there... I'm just passing them along
  5. G-Damn!! I was wondering if you'll be pulled out of the line for a refit Congrats HB!! 1st one through!! Hope you'll be followed by many This is great news - really great news!! The experience levels is exactly what I hoped for; favor good... Only the Vet/Crack players will get through with vet or better troops. What did you have your Player exp set at? Sorry my friend - Reality Bites That first winter was an enormous shock for the Germans... One line that sticks im my mind is the number of Germans that died because when the went for a crap their arses froze It's meant to create the same shock in the players and prepare them for what's to come... They/you will have another break in the coming summer months (42), but then things get even worse. Much worse... The bottom line is that you the CO will have to become extremely good; extremely tough to survive this campaign through to Berlin... Winter 41 is a wake-up call that this is serious I suspect that a player who makes it through to 45 will have doubled or trippled his capabilities. I find that when playing old opponents I still instinctively look after my men and now I'm hammering opponents that used to be on par with me. This is a great learning tool. Great!! - I'll mail you what I have so far, so you can start - give me a couple of hours. Biltong
  6. Ahh - yes.. One of those 'unclear instructions' that slipped through, because you don't look at it anymore once you've played a couple of games. The only effect that Low/Medium/High has when generating the Task Force Offerings is the number of units generated... Low = a lot; High = few. So - you hope for high, because with less you have a better chance of getting to choose your own. I've changed the Green, Regular etc in all 3 boxes (58) to show: 5 experience - Green / Low 10 experience - Regular / Medium 25 experience - Veteran / High and the 1st paragraph opposite the 58 heading now reads: "For Task Force Quality roll up Low, Medium or High. For New Attached Units Quality roll up Green, Regular or Veteran. In both cases ignore the following notes and modifiers." I've also adapted the Guide to make this more clear: "Parameter 21 (Quality) Go to Parameter 58 and use the first set of die ranges (June to Aug). Ignore the rest of the Notes and do NOT modify the die at all. Note that there are a number of options available for the die roll. What you are concerned with here is just Low, Medium or High. The other options are used when you roll up Attached Units or Normal Replacements. June to Aug 1-3 5 experience - Green / Low 4-9 10 experience - Regular / Medium 10 25 experience - Veteran / High You will use this Quality parameter: Low, Medium or High later: 49 - Generate Task Force Offerings using Auto QB." Hope this is better Biltong
  7. Sandy, Laxx, Rob... Thanx for your feedback guys- Manstein will be most pleased I wonder if he know's this post exist - better mail him. A new guy: Peter Molloy has just joined the BCR Map team and is working on a hundred plus? maps to be used for a 5 day battle - Kiev 41. Hundred+ because we cater for: 5 Days x 4 sizes (Small/Med/Larg/Huge) and 6 Battle Types (except ME which is not relevant). I've seen the 'Huge' versions already and they're real beauts as well - These will be battles to be remembered. Biltong
  8. Just got this from Blackhorse Hundreds of downloads and no-one (incl myself) ever noticed that LOL!!!! Quite right! & Fixed Can't believe it ... I'm taking your mail to the board Biltong
  9. Yes - you're right - that sectionn can be misunderstood... I changed it using the Task Force Offerings refered to in 49. 49 (2nd to 5th rows) now reads: "Note that this is NOT the battle that you play. The only purpose of this QB is to generate the Task Force Offerings from which you will be able to buy some units for your Task Force. You generate the Real Battle in the following parameter (50). Choose Axis and 1 Player and make a summary list of all the units on the map using the box Task Force Offerings at the start of the Parameters Sheet. You will find that the QB generates a wide range of Experience for the Task Force Offerings. Ignore this. When you buy your Task Force for the Real Battle, you use the Experience that you rolled earlier while determining Quality (21)." Note 12: "Buy the Task Force Units out of the Task Force Offerings generated by the Auto QB (49). Do not exceed the points generated in the sections (29 to 35) for each category, but buy as many Task Force Offerings as you can. The examples further down in 12 should make it clear as well. Thanx for pointing out the ambiguity... This is how BCR got where it is - everybody piling in
  10. I knew it!! I knew it!! I knew it!! Seriously Jig: See No 5 BCR’s Goal is to: 1. Enable players to play a Campaign from June 41 through all of the CMBB terrain until the final day of battle in Berlin. 2. Make sure that the Campaign never becomes Boring – the difficulty must increase, it must be varied and the Campaign must end in a climax. 3. Keep the Campaign as Historically accurate as possible. 4. Keep it short and simple enough to allow most players to understand and use it. 5. Enable anyone to Expand or Modify BCR to his own taste. 6. Provide Excitement, Tension and just good old-fashioned Fun!
  11. Thanx SS Will have to look at it 1st - what will happen to the Battle Group Inf Co for that battle - Off for a refit? Just the battle Group Armor + Task Force armor? n da list
  12. BCR - Map Expansion List v2.0 - when you open it up it opens on the Instruction page, but check the tabs at the bottom for "Map List" - click on it and Voila See 1st post of this thread for DL sites. [ February 13, 2003, 03:59 PM: Message edited by: Biltong ]
  13. Oh - I'm going to keep a low profile for 3 - 4 days. Want to give 42 a good bash. One of the guys are already (a week ago?) in the 2nd week of December and I promised myself I'll have 42 ready before he gets there. SS/Apache/Aaron et al - will you guys help the new BCRioters and please don't tell them to use King Tigers in 41  Thanx Guys Later
  14. Just peeped in at SS's site to check the visitor #: 420+ Apache, I see the Battalion download is also clicking merrily along Glad SS offered to host it. BCR is expanding far better than I hoped for... Max's Auto, the Map Expansion Packs, and now your effort. Wonder how many variants/expansions there will be next year this time? Great work Apache!! Guys, if you wanna fight like a Man! Try Apache's Bigger Better Battles
  15. Thanx Kenm, Love to hear this. I only got to July - don't have enough time, but I think I'm going to do the same: Start again - esp since the ammo bug has been fixed
  16. Jeez - you have to be fast here!! Jig, Please ignore the anarchistic comments by the other BCR Team members  BCR is strictly Historically Accurate!! Just a note on the historical accuracy of 'losing arty points' because of the QB limitations. This is historically quite accurate. When promised arty doesn't arrive (you are not allowed to buy them) it simply means: Don't ever feel up your CO's wife at the company dinner!!
  17. BCR Map Packs at your service Yes sir No sir: 1) The next time you have Normal Replacements all your casualties including 'depleted' squads get replacements Note 17 Emergency Reorganization: "The Squads/Tanks etc that are moved off the map will be replenished with the next Normal Replacements (58) and rejoin the Campaign." 2) In this case where you are busy with an Emergency Reorganisation... If you had any attached units you would have used them 1st to replace any of your Battle Group guys Note 15: Attached Units: "Use Attached Units first as replacements for Emergency Reorganization" 3) Even your Attached Units get replacements during Normal Replacements. However, if you used up a whole Attached Unit to replace some casualties during an Emergency Reorg... They are GONE... That's why Attached Units don't last too long... They get used up as replacements
  18. Spot on Apache!!! Wow! Lets start here... Points 1 - 3 above that: YES! The Auto always selects way more than you can buy (more about that later). If you're going to write down EVERYTHING that you get it will take you ages. Go to view 8 and scan from bottom right and note down the individual units: FO's; armor; snipers etc... Once you get to the first CO - check what type of inf it is and note that down... Now you can bet your arse the QB will select a lot of the same stuff over and over - don't even bother counting how many companies - just keep on scanning from right to left until you strike something different - normally a pioneer company, and note that as well - if this takes more than 5 minutes you are taking too long. Your actual purchase points per category will (normally) only allow you to buy 1 or 2 PLATOONS of inf - so counting how many companies there are is a waste of time. Even in your case you had 500 points for Inf/Support That's one company and a platoon or 2 - so all you need to note is what type of campanies were generated. As for the rest NOPE Note 12 Generating the real Battle: "Buy the Task Force Units generated by the Auto QB (49) with the points generated in the sections (29 to 35). You must buy as many Task Force Units as you can (within a category)." You rolled up: Infantry/support: 500 Vehicle: 500 Armor: 500 Arty: 3500 Plus the Battle Group: 635 TOTAL: 5653 And that is all you are allowed to spend: 5653!! Your Battle Group at 635 Plus 500 Inf/Support: A company and a couple of platoons out of all those 35? companies generated for you - Ain't I nice to give you such a wide variety to choose from I don't know if the Auto gave you any armor - If it did: buy 500 points worth of those generated - if nothing: you are lucky and get to chose 500 points worth yourself as long as they are less than 40% rarity... Etc etc. The Auto generated: 1x81mm FO 3x75mm FO 4x105mm FO +- a 1000 points worth that you have to buy first. The rest you can choose and since you were lucky enough to get Large Arty, Rarity falls away: So: a plane or 2; some rockets; a handful of 150mm FO's BAROOOM!!!!!! See why I'm jealous I assume you are assaulting, so with a force size of 5000 the Real Battle QB will give you far more points than you are allowed to spend (5653)... You are not allowed to spend more than you rolled up. In the case of the arty the QB might only allow you to spend 3010 or something - tough! You lose the rest. Go and look at Note 12 - 'Generating the Real Battle' - it's got examples and everyfink Now for some hints: The task force is cannon fodder - You don't know these guys (ever watched Band of Brothers?) - they tend to crap in your foxholes! You send them ahead to find and suppress the enemy so that yuor Battle Group can advance safely and do the killing (to get favor and experience) So: cheap and fast infantry/scout cars etc.. Esp. as much cheap infantry as possible! Snipers - also very handy for scouting. If you're assaulting a town: try and get a flamethrower. Arty: big boys for towns - and 81mm for the rest. Yuo must also note the number of tubes that the Auto QB gives you - makes quite a difference in price. Hope yuo get it right - ask if something's still not clear - I'm sure some of the guys appreciate your questions to clear up their own doubts
  19. Hiya S, You lost me - what must I send? If it's the rules (including the Random Die Numbers) - you can download it from the sites listed in the 1st Post of this thread. BTW - guys. This is standard: I always give the download site links in the 1st post of the current thread - if you want to check for new map pack or whatever.
  20. Bloody Geek - what's wrong with paper ?? If we left it to you the bloody Amazon jungle will grow right back  Exactly - 100+ guys going Ooh - AAh and F%$## all at the same time all over the world!! That's what rules are for...!
  21. Sadist!! The Task Force Modifiers (Note 7) already does this and more: Last weeks of December you only have a 50% chance of getting arty - and then only small ones at that Throw a ten and you only get 95 points
  22. Ah yes - something I forgot to mention: Even with 'unrestricted' your points for Arty will still be restricted by CMBB: 3010 for an Axis Assault IIRC... Just see it as a once in a life time gift!! Your odds of getting Large Arty points combined with a 5 x Large Battle must be 100 to 1? Obviously you are the spearhead of a mayor Divisional action... Sit back and enjoy the barrage and send in your troops to count the dead.. The June to Sept/Oct 41 was a lot of fun for the Axis... later it changed a bit... Enjoy the ride - while it lasts In fact I'm jealous!! Wish I would get a combo like that. What did you buy and what happened? - do tell!! [ February 11, 2003, 05:16 PM: Message edited by: Biltong ]
  23. Hi Joker - from time to time guys started out doing various programs that would automate the Rules... of all of these only one guy managed to succeed See Max's Auto Parameters at the download sites (1st post in this thread). He's got an Excel version where you select some options, press a key and hey Presto!! All done for you.
