1. Stalin Mike's Organ, let's forget the rune mega-scenario. I didn't realize he had gotten quite so carried away. I'll poke around the Depot and see if I can find something slightly less involved. Do you have a preference between CMAK and CMBB? :D:D

Axe, sorry to hear about your back problems. One question - Do you know that your back can be as good as new? If you truly believe, way down in your subconcious, that it will always be injured, nobody else is ever going to be able to make it any better. :(:(

Wow, I'm really impressed! You two Phi Beta Kappa candidates made it all the way to the second file before getting the turn sequence mixed up? That's probably a new record for both of you, isn't it? Since MTW is most likely passed out again at the bottom of yet another wine vat, it may take him a while to respond. :D:D:D

Wait till I send you San Pietro. You may begin gnashing teeth now.

    Rune

Hold on there just a minute, Mr. Chicago penguin. I'm playing the GERMAN side. Unlike the real German commanders, I appear to have the entire American invasion of southern France stopped cold at these two bridges. About all W&C and I have accomplished is to level every multi-story building on the battlefield. We both have lost a few AFVs, but we both have plenty left to make the bridges the quickest routes to suicide. GRRRRRRRRR!!!

So send me your newest scenario. I'm sure I can find some snowed-in and/or frozen opponent. Of course, I'm having such a good time playing TurboTax that it may be a while before I get back to CM! :D:D:D

  4. Snarker, that blizzard heading your way may cause both football games on Sunday to be played in uber-Finn-like conditions. I'm certainly looking forward to it. Sorry for the inconvenience it's causing in your neighborhood. We don't seem to be expecting any snow at all. I'm afraid you'll have to pin the blame for this either on Axe and Pseudo, or possibly on the Minnesota penguins. It seems more likely to be caused by the Canadians, since the guys in Minnesota only create hot air. :D:D

My copy of TurboTax arrived today, so I'll be devoting an insane amount of time to creative tax accounting for a few weeks. Fortunately I know that as a white middle-class married male I'm completely exempt from any IRS reviews. :D

Rune, this Bridges at Le Muy scenario appears to be a complete stalemate. The only information I could find with Google made it sound like the Germans didn't even slow the Americans down at Le Muy. In this scenario there doesn't appear to be any way for either side to hope to get a single man or AFV across either bridge. I guess a massive smokescreen would work at the end of the scenario for a last-minute flag rush, but that's pretty gamey. I fully expect the pretty gamey and 100% hull-down Watkins & Crank to do exactly that. I know I would if I had some smoke left. :D

MTW, I saw your little crack about me being an example of what can happen to non-drinkers. Coming from a guy whose blood is about 150 proof, I take it as a compliment. tongue.gif

    Bah.

I'm sure that parents from all over Alabama cringe when they think that this waffle may be teaching their children. On the other hand, it does go a long way toward explaining the reputation that southern states have earned for their public education systems.  :rolleyes:

Question: Who's the most important, highest paid faculty member in any southern high school?

    Answer: The football coach.

Speaking of which, I was really disappointed to see the Jets blow not one, but two late field goal tries against the Steelers. A Jets win would have given the Colts a potential home game next weekend. Now beating New England will only gain them a trip to Pittsburg. So it goes. :D:D

Not off to a rousing start, but from what I read here in this maggot infested wasteland of deranged grognard's it's no big loss.

But accusing me of being a fanboi Canadian like Axe...well all I can say I've got shotguns that are brighter than them folk.

OK, Ok...I'm not lurking like I said I would. I shall trouble ya'll no further.

My local EB has a copy of CM:BB for $10 and it's been slowly decaying on the store shelf for the better part of a year. Should I pick it up?? ;)

(Seriously, you guys crack me up. I appreciate it. Makes for better day at work).

Buy CMBB immediately. Order CMAK. Send me a setup for griping about my choices in music, or I'll send you one. Your choice. :D

And now, this oldie but goodie goes out to J. J. who requested some opera. The first time I ever heard Pavarotti sing this, it gave me goosebumps. It still does:

    Nessun dorma! Nessun dorma!

    Tu pure, o, Principessa,

    nella tua fredda stanza,

    guardi le stelle

    che fremono d'amore

    e di speranza.

Ma il mio mistero e chiuso in me,

    il nome mio nessun sapra!

No, no, sulla tua bocca lo diro

    quando la luce splendera!

Ed il mio bacio sciogliera il silenzio

    che ti fa mia!

    (Il nome suo nessun sapra!...

    e noi dovrem, ahime, morir!)

    Dilegua, o notte!

    Tramontate, stelle!

    Tramontate, stelle!

    All'alba vincero!

    vincero, vincero!

There you go Waffles, have a little dose of culture. It couldn't hurt. Snarker and Mace, any chance of you letting go of a turn in the next month or two?

  7. Good Friday Morning!!

How is everyone in Cheery Wafflemania today? Time for some MUSIC!! Here's a little tune entitled "My Culture" by Maxi Jazz and Robbie Williams. Enjoy.

I'm the sum total of my ancestors

    I carry their DNA

We are representatives of a long line of people

And we carried them around everywhere

    This long line of people

That goes back to the beginning of time

And when we meet, they meet other lines of people

And we say bring together the lines of me

When I look back over the years

At the things that brought tears to my eyes

Papa said we have to be wise to live long lives

Now I recognize what my father said before he dies

    Vocalize things I've left unsaid

Left my spirit unfed for too long

I'm coming home to my family

    Where I can be strong

Be who I planned to be

    Within me, my ancestry

    Givin' me continuity

Would it be remiss to continue in this way

    Would you rather I quit

    Come with the other ****

    Making people's hips sway

Lip service I pay, but I'm nervous

I pray for all the mothers who get no sleep

Like a lifeline, I light lines 'cause my compassion is deep

For the people who fashioned me, my soul to keep

And this is who I happen to be

    And if I don't see that I'm strong, then I won't be

This is what my Daddy told me

I wished he would hold me

A little more than he did

But he taught me my culture

    And how to live positive

    I never wanna shame

The blood in my veins and bring pain

To my sweet grandfather's face, in his resting place

I make haste to learn and not waste

Everything my forefathers earned in tears

    For my culture

    Fall back again

    Crawl from the warm water

    For my culture

    Water to air

    You're on your feet again

    Your feet again

    Hello Dad, remember me?

I'm the man you thought I'd never be

I'm the boy who you reduced to tears

Dad, I'd been lonely for 27 years

Yeah, that's right, my name's Rob

I'm the one who landed the pop stars job

I'm the one who you told, "Look, don't touch"

And the kid who wouldn't amount to much

I believe in the senses out of sound

I have always been too loud

Won't you help me drown it out?

    I'm what I feel

And what I'm feeling is surreal

I'm a massive spinnin' wheel, always digging in my heels

    Now I got the faith

    Fall back again

    Crawl from the warm water

    Water to air

    You're on your feet again

    Your feet again

    Ha, lace up your booty

Going back to the roots, continue my interlude

    Feed freakin' for loot

And my spell's been to check what your future brings is now

And your forefathers further know how

But now, what happened to the world without the hatred

Use your head, if the needle is wise, be the thread

And weave ancestral wisdom, yours by best

Spreading the Lord's word over this broad Earth

This is what my Daddy told me

I wished he would hold me

A little more than he did

But he taught me my culture

    And how to live positive

    I never wanna shame

The blood in my veins and bring pain

To my sweet grandfather's face, in his resting place

I make haste to learn and not waste

Everything my forefathers earned in tears

    For my culture

    Fall back again

    Crawl from the warm water

    Water to air

    You're on your feet again

    Your feet again

    For my culture

    Fall back again

    Crawl from the warm water

    Water to air

    You're on your feet again

    Your feet again

    For my culture

This is most likely a temporary respite, so before I lose power again, I want you all to know I hate the maggot that made us so dependent on electricity.

Spent every waking hour averting disaster, and woke up every two hours to gas the generator to run the sump to keep from floating away.

Maybe for a few months. Once the US started cranking out new carriers and battleships and cruisers and destroyers and submarines and airplanes, the IJN was through. Admiral Yamamoto knew that well enough.

While individual or unit heroics can make a significant difference at the tactical level, at the strategic level it's no more than a blip on the radar. Hardly a romantic view of heroes, is it?

  12. Good Tuesday morning, Cheery Waffles!! :D:D

Hey, if you haven't noticed, our dear friend the Just a Car or whatever of the penguins has set up a web site. Be sure to stop by and deface the guest book. Then look at all of the pictures and laugh. They remind me of the guys in the Audio-Visual club and the chess club back when I was in high school. I'll bet every one of them owns and wears a plastic pocket protector. How chic!

Anyone recall the military situation in "The Good, the Bad, and the Ugly"? Remember there was a single bridge with stalemated armies at both ends? Well, rune has recreated this in his new scenario. There are two parallel bridges with lots of armor and infantry at each end. Whoever attacks first loses.

  13. For the US, I'd say the almost 3,300 Liberty and Victory ships. Everything the Army and the Marines accomplished on land was made possible by this fleet of cheap, roomy, mass-produced cargo ships. A single ship could carry 9,000 tons of cargo. Put in other terms, one ship carried up to 2,840 jeeps or 440 tanks or 230 million rounds of rifle ammunition. That's a pretty good return for a ship costing about $2,000,000.

Of course, Eisenhower said the Higgins LCVPs were the weapons that made open-beach invasions possible for the Allies and changed the strategy of the war. He seems like someone in a good position to make this call.

Look for Harry Turtledove and "The Guns of the South". It hasn't been lost; he's sold lots of copies. You might even borrow one from your local library so you can save a few dollars toward your next trip to the liquor store. :D:D

Where are my turns? Never have so many Waffles owed so much to so few (me). I'll bet Sir Winston himself still returns moves faster than most of you. tongue.gif:D:D

Good question. I think you followed YK2 and Kitty when they ducked out of the MBT for a vacation from the lawyers. Then you actually had the audacity to participate in the BDLRM2, and didn't that work out well. :D

Oh yeh, there's no social structure here, no pecking order, no rules to follow, just good ol' maggotted tnt chucking!

    Mace

Thank you. It was tough to keep MasterGoodale (the maggot) from trying to impose some bizarre rules he dreamed up one dark and stormy night. In the long run, sanity prevailed and the TNT chucking has continued.
  16. There's good news tonight. It turns out that the friend of a friend owns a Bobcat. 10 minutes with that little beauty and our driveway is completely cleared. I think he ended up clearing driveways for four or five neighbors, too. He made good money, and we regained the use of our cars and garages. Once again unrestrained capitalism prevails in a win-win for everybody. I may have to become a Republican. :D:D
