  1. I dont know if they can but I hope the BTS people though of that. I think it would be really cool to see how a platton has to reorient themselves so the commander can issue orders visually.
  2. I have lately been playing PBEM games and every so often I get an opponent that mentions a Rule of engagement (Uber-tanks, short-75....) Can someone tell me where I can find ALL or most of these rules so I dont have to ask every time? Thank you! See you Sunday when we will all break down the Internet trying to download the long awaited demo. If anyone wants a double blind PBEM with the demo just tell me!
  3. This is just a message for the BTS guys to fix a little bug I found. Have you noticed that the Brit 2 inch mortar say reloading instead of say tired or weary when you tell them to run?
  4. First idea: Couldnt we have a "Convoy order" so all vehicles attached to it would move with the same speed and destination even if they are different type of vehicle or experience? That way we could have trucks and jeeps moving the same way without those jams that occur sometime. I mean, IRL convoy drivers look at other vehicles round them and move accordingly. In TacOps you can aldo copy the waypoints of a vehicle and paste them on other vehicles saving a lot of time. Second idea: IRL (in real life) infantry used tanks as cover (wildly discussed) and walked behind them in their traks so they were sure no mines where there. Couldnt we use the same tactic to move armour acroos fields to prevent mine fields?
  5. I think it was a great idea to have tanks and others stop firing at a building that became on fire or collapsed. However I am playing a scenario where I am using a burning building as cover for my armour. Maybe the BTS people could make a way so we can order already burning houses to be destroyed.
  6. Thank you for your help. I tried you email but it doesn't work. I did all those things you suggested the right way and the problem is still there. What could go wrong?
  7. I have just created an scenario but the computer won't let me try it out against the AI. Any suggestions? (There are no boats in the scenario) Also, the first time I tried no units showed up at all and the game ended as a draw. (I had on map units)
  8. One of the things I miss from Close Combat is those secondary explosions from burning tanks. It game a great atphosfear when those tanks blew up a couple of times when shells exploded withinh a tank. You have to be caraful of your troops too!
  9. You need a computer analist to give that kind of answer...I am sure the BTS boys will give us an excellent piece of software!
  10. Last time I checked (long time ago) about CMBB release date was late March...Does anyone know when is it going to be?
  11. I usually use them as scouts (I do miss the recon 3-man squads from Close Combat: A bridge too far) and try to get them on high places to eliminate the commanders of the opponent's tanks. I think the best thing about them is killing the gunners from the Halftracks. That way they are useless, unless they are assault HTs (they cannot fire their machineguns)
  12. One of the things I like about this game is the traffic it can generate and how we have to solve it (It reminds me of the scene from PATTON where the general has to do a trafic cops job) Anyway I usually do four things 1. Place the experienced crews first (so they dont bump into the slow starting ones) 2. Use the pause command so they separete each other 3. place to command points on the right side of the road so I can use the left for passing destroyed of stopped vehicles 4.Select all the units at once so they move as a convoy. Here is an idea: Why dont have a convoy command for several different-speed vehicles to move as a convoy (trucks and jeeps for example)? This could be good in the second game of CMBO where apparently there is going to be armour leaders in a different vehicle than his platoon.
  13. I would like to recommend two books of WWII materiel focus. The first one is Andrew Mollo's THE ARMED FORCES OF WORLD WAR II: UNIFORMS, INSIGNIA and ORGANIZATION from Greenwich editions. It is a great book that covers all the theatres of the War and all the units from air, land and sea. I love it! it is great reference for uniform insignia and organization. At the end there are comparable tables with unit ranks and their real names in the countries' language (colonel=oberst...) The second one is WWII: THE DIRECTORY OF WEAPONS also from Greenwich editions with General editor Chris Bishop (No, I do not have any stock shares from Greenwich editions but if anybody from them is reading this I would not mind a reward ) Anyway this book is great as it depicts most of the weapons in WWII from small arms, tanks, planes, ships....I did find somethings wrong with it: 1. There is no page reference for the weapons so if you are interested in looking for one you will have to look at the chapter concerning the weapon and page trought it until you find it, 2. There is no reference to the JEEP! The chapter concerning light vehicles has a picture of it but they dont talk about it!!!! 3. They mention a curious mine used by the Russians called a dog mine (use your imagination and you'll be right) but they dont mention any other mine 4. Hand grenades are not covered. Besides all these errors the book is great reference for all the weapons with drawings and pictures of the real things. VERY GOOD. I wrote this long topic (soorry ) in response of another asking for a WWII bible which I answered but did so poorly. I hope you like them and if you have any suggestions please write a message to me with the subject WWII. Keep on fighting in this great game!!
  14. If you are looking for a bible on organization, uniforms and insignia I highly recommend Andrew Mollo's THE ARMED FORCES OF WORLD WAR II. It includes lots of info about land, sea and air units, in all the theatres of the war. I have it with the Encyclopeadia of World War II of the same editorial and they are great! I will take a look at the oxford companion
  15. Does anyone know when the demo of the new Combat Mission will come out?
  16. One of the great things about CMBO is Quickbattles. But why does the computer buy so many minefields and usually sets the antitanks' fields in out-of the way places where you usually dont send any vehicles and therefore they don't protect it's troops from them?
  17. Apparenttly the copy of CM2 will come only for Mac or PC in the CD. That I think it is a shame because I have both at home and I love to play in each...Why did they do that?
  18. You are right that feature i suggest is pro attacker but Field of view is clearly pro defender as it shows all the field of a unit that it already sees and since it marcks weapons efecctiveness it shows the best places for an ambush. It only helps to show something the real soldier knows but to us with a flat screen is more difficult
  19. I once suggested to have a field of view command that showed all the field of view of a unit at the same time with different colors to show effectiveness of weapons and out of range. I now have another view idea. How about having a command that shows the LOS a unit will have after moving? You plot the movement commands and then choose the future LOS that will come out of the last move waypoint. What do you think?
  20. All the WWII books I have read always mention infantry advancing towards the enemy under arty cover and when they got close the FOs would end the barrage. Couldn´t we have a command-like pause for example-that orders the FOs to stop the barrage in 15, 30, or 45 secs so we can coordinate the attack better and get our troops upon the enemy when it is still shocked and stunned? What do you think?
  21. How about doing some battles for the "Blue Division". It was a division from Franco´s Spain that fought at the Eastern Front...I think it can be good to have axis troops with just germans....They have the same uniform but obviously speak spanish....Hey I can get some frineds to give the sounds!!!....What do you think? Spain is different
  22. My with is to have Field of Sight along with LOS. Why: Because my eyes sometimes don´t see the croocks and cranies of the field and I would like to see all the field of view of a unit. It would be cool too to have different shades in the field indicating the effectiveness of the units weapons, therefore being great for ambushes . Don´t get me wrong I like LOS but you have to drag the poiter in every dirrection when placing defending units. And sometimes you miss something. PD I also aggree with an earlier reply to have turrets point where we want to.
  23. I have just played a scenario with M3 halftracks and I have noticed the machine gunner´s feet poke out of the bottom and can be seen between the tracks. I love CM and the realism it has. I have seen the great jobs the new MODS are (great truck!!) and right now I am considering donwloading some. Can the feet be fixed?
