1. I've seen other games' files and applications whose PICT resources are absolutely huge...containing every graphic in the game in one single resource fork. And they work fine. I wonder if the problem with CM is the mod manager you're using to write in the mods..maybe they corrupt the graphics files? I use the excellent CM MacMod, but sometimes that screws up the graphics file (like with hi-res grasses), but if you then do it manually with ResEdit (give it a big memory partition!) it seems to work fine. i'm sure i'm using every hi-res mod there is, but none of my graphics files are over 18MB. Thats not that big. [ 04-14-2001: Message edited by: tecumseh ]
 2. Yeah I had the same thing...the graphic resource file that contains all the grasses gets corrupted very easily, especially with DD's hires grass. if you open that file in ResEdit you will see some of the PICT IDs are missing, and maybe some are empty. This is the corruption. It results in other textures being used for the missing grass ones (like the side of a tank) and makes CM look like the end of 2001 A Space Odyssey. The way I fixed it was to use ResEdit to delete ALL the resources in that graphics file, then open DD's grass BMPs in an image editor one by one and copy and paste them into new PICT resources named correctly. Make sure you get every resource in the series (I forget,...something like 1500-1519 lo-res and 1550-1569 hi-res). Put each of DD's pics in BOTH the hi and lo res resources. (ie. his file 1500.BMP gets put in a new resource called 1500 and 1550). Then re-save that graphics file. Make sense? After a hell of a lot of messing around I found this was the only way to get DD's grasses to work on my SE imac. Good luck
 3.
quote:
Originally posted by Big Time Software: [QB}The main, overwhelming problem is not the vehicle itself but the whole issue of "Rarity".

Cm is really a remarkable game... The problem is one side can purchase a unit that is more powerful than its cost would indicate. Yet the official word from Steve is that this is not a bug, or even a problem, because purchasing lots of these units is not historical. That just totally made it click in my head how astonishing a feat making CM is, keeping historians, military types and WW2 enthusiasts happy, and still producing a game that is playable by everyone else, who just want a fun, balanced computer game. The sd kfz 37mm should be a symbol of how (lets face it) the problems with this game are molehills compared with the mountains of entertainment ya get back. Grogs can limit the use of the 37mm on historical grounds, gamers can limit its use by mutual agreement on fairness, and while we happily play we know that CM2 is full-steam ahead without interruption. Cool
 4.
quote:
Originally posted by Schugger: The tank commander's pic is simply hilarious - looks like a very militant Hippie Where did you get that Mod, Monty?

Do you mean the portrait down the bottom? if so, thats no mod - that ships with CM. When i first saw it I thought "Whooa, what a fro!", but then i realised it was not his hair, but his earmuff/earphone things... Anyone else think this?? I hate that pic so much I had to swap it with the canadian tank commander, just to take my brit tanks seriously. He looks like a photo of my dad playing bass in the 70s
 5. There is another thread going about how only 20% of soldiers in a squad are actively aiming and firing their weapons. So maybe only two guys in a squad are actually sticking their guns out...the rest are raiding the pantry.
 6. well that's 21 kind offers. Thanks, i might take you up on that i still think having it automated would be useful...for a start you could play your own scenarios without knowing what is gonna happen, and without bothering anyone else (misanthropes might dig that, or people without regular email access).
 7. Just a thought, but what if someone were to write a simple program that took in a whole bunch of files that had the same name, numbered differently, like: File01.cmb File02.cmb File03.cmb and output one of them randomly as File.cmb? ie. you would be playing one of three scenarios without knowing which one... Then scenerio designers could make multiple versions of the same scenerio with different enemy starting positions and forces. Because of the cool way CM already varies its behaviour from game to game, you could then play against the AI, and have absolutely *no idea* where the enemy was going to start and what it was going to be using against you, over and over. For example, with six different versions of one scenario (three starts: left, middle, right - and two different forces: mainly infantry, mainly armor =3x2=6), you could play it over and over, and you would need to develop a generally solid strategy to prepare for the unknown. As it stands now, after one "blind" game the fun is gone, and you can be a gamey bastard and win easily. I think a program like this would be great for those of us who still like playing the AI and like knowing the map well, but not what to expect. So...can someone code it? And...er...for mac too? Tanks! (PS sorry if this has been covered b4 - but i haven't seen it mentioned)
