1. Indeed true. Churchill VIIs (I think that's right) have the thick front armour. I had a gun damaged Churchill ping off 5 88mm shells and a load of 75mm ones in a QB I've done. Had to get that one by fast moving a Hetzer to it's side and put a 75mm shell into it. As a player who normally picks Axis I tend to fear the Fireflys or the Challengers in the tank vs tank battles. Churchills are very useful in infantry support when I have been British (which is not very often)
quote:
Originally posted by panzerwerfer42: The later Churchills with 152mm armor instead of 88 are fairly tough to deal with. Panthers have to hit them fairly straight on, Tigers rarely get through the front and Pz 4s and Stugs are relatively useless for frontal shots. The only reliable counter-punch is anything equipped with an 88 L71 cannon. They're painfully slow though. They also have that problem of a weak main gun, even the 95mm one isn't much good against tanks over 500m. The 95 guns are really nice for anti-infantry work though.

 2. A definate must is the Holocaust section there (don't think it's a temporary exhibition). To be honest after 4 hours visiting the place I got a bit museumed out so I am going to have to return there and finish off the rest of it.
 3. To add another one into the mix - Marshall Budenny who managed to suffer the single worst defeat (in terms of losses) of the entire war at Kiev in '41. Something like 500,000 it is reckoned? Don't know the full ins and outs of the whole thing but it probably didn't help with Stalin refusing to yield ground at that time.
 4.
quote:
Originally posted by LuckyStrike: Its an absolutely beautiful mod Magua, and I think I'll find myself playing most of my scenarios in the Summer of '44 from now on! By far the most realistic-looking terrain set available. Huge thanks for the obvious effort you've put in!

Indeed true *drool*. Am looking forward to playing CM with this set of MODS. Excellent stuff from Magua.
 5.
quote:
Originally posted by Soddball: One thing I have found useful when conducting defence against an assault is, where possible, to retain small groups of strike forces to allow you to harry the defender and force him down a corridor of your choosing. In a 5000pt combined arms battle, this might be groups including TD, AC, a platoon of infantry in HT's - that kind of fast-moving mix. Any input? PS - On bigger battles - a dozen sharpshooters well forward of your defences, in foxholes in woods, can upset infantry and button tanks.

Excellent stuff, I'll keep that in mind for our next battle. I tend to prefer the defensive myself where I get my forces concentrated in and around key positions on the battlefield rather than a line defence. Yes it may allow for outflanking but it allows for a bit more flexibility with the numbers you have and perhaps allows for counterattacks or plugging of key points in the defence. Perhaps there should be differences in terms of the defensive battles that you can have. Ones for when you are part of a rearguard in a hurried retreat or ones where you have fallen back on prepared defences. This could then determine on what obstacles can be prepared and perhaps whether the defender can view the battlefield before picking their units (of course if they picked that in the options).
 6. Also another factor was that German aircraft production was being scaled down during 1940. Whilst the British were able to make up their losses in aircraft pretty well (also done by cannabalising scrapped planes) the Germans were starting to suffer shortages of planes because of their low production. As it was correctly put the Germans were having to do escort duties which constricted what they could and couldn't do. Also, big question here, why the hell didn't they put fuel tanks on the 109s to enable them to fight longer over Britain? Was used by them in the Spanish Civil war so it would have been reasonable common sense to use them whilst they were forming up in France and flying over the channel.
 7. A mere four hours sleep last night before getting to work this morning. Ever known of the phrase "I'll just do this turn then I'll finish"? I've had that with some games but not with one as absorbing or long lasting as this beastie.
 8. Or watch this classic documentary on BBC2 on Sundays for free....but only in the UK of course
