  1. Mike the wino - there you go. Cheers,
  2. wow. And it was never addressed in the patches? How about the multiple passes beyond what the payload of the planes? Cheers,
  3. OK - I realize that I am way too late in finding this for any patch to correct but this one is a bit strange. I wonder if anyone else has had this happen. The year is 1943 June and my friend and I are playing a premade map with me on the attack (allied) and him on the defence (axis). I went meat and potatoes style with a mix of regular and SMG infantry, some light arty (mainly for smoke) and a few platoons of T-34's. The only luxury I allowed myself was 2 IL-M2 (early) Ground attack planes for air support. Well... the data on them says that they get a maximum of 6 strafes with 4 X 110lb bombs and 8 missles. I was thinking this would be a bunch of fun if they actually manage to come in and drop their loads. We are now on turn 19 out of 30 and so far the planes have dropped 1 round of missles and 4 passes of bombing runs. One of the bombing runs causes all the small shack style houses on the entire map to explode eventhough there were no apparent bombs falling in the area and they were way away from where the set of bombs actually fell. I have the file saved and can give it out to people if they are so inclined. Just wondering if anyone else has come across this. Cheers,
  4. Just a quick comment about the problem with the ISU 152's not firing. I have done a couple of tests and it the only way to likely get them to shoot is to use a armour covering arc. Otherwise they will opt for the retreat. The strange thing is (and feel free to correct me) one of the roles of the ISU 152 was for anti-armour. It carried those big AP rounds for a reason! Cheers,
  5. Nope - I can't. I think that wins the Dilbert award...
  6. Just bumping this beacause it addresses my situation in my last post (suicidal tank commanders). Does anyone know if this has been addressed in the new 1.3 patch? Cheers,
  7. OK - I think this has been mentioned before but I just want to see if it has been addressed. In my last couple of games I have had issues with tanks doing very strange things when times are getting tough. Lately, I had a StugIII behind a building when he gets spotted by a T-34 (I think he was spotted - I didn't think there was a line of sight). This T-34 is one of 4 that are emerging from some scattered trees only about 100 - 150 meteres around the other side of the building where my StugIII is waiting. The T-34s have already killed 2 of my PzIV's that got caught in an ambush and my Stugg is waiting to provide an ambush of his own should one of the T-34's lumber along past the building. Well, like I said, I guess one of the T-34's spots my Stug and Mr. Stugg drops smoke like a good commander might and then steps on the accelerator right infront of the oncoming T-34's! I have yet to see the next turn but I can I have received the planning orders for my tank. The AI has giving the Stugg Fast movement orders right in front of the oncoming T-34s and the tells the Stugg to spin his ass to the 4 T-34's and make a break for the builings behind him. There was room for the Stugg to back up if he was scared but instead he chose certain death (just waiting for the hail of side penetrations he is going to recieve from 4 T-34's 100 meters away). I wouldn't complain too much here except that I have had this happen to me and seen it happen to others before. I don't remember tanks freaking out so much in CMBO. My commander is regular and at the present moment he is not panicing or alerted just about to become dead. Was this aparent bug addressed in the 1.03 patch release? I took a look at the bug fixes announced and didn't see anything. Cheers,
  8. well - it sounds like you might have loaded a mod that has corrupted your original infantry. Two things to do: one - re-instal the game two - if you have saved a backup copy of your bmp files then find the ones that are wrong and switch them back. Cheers,
  9. Ok - I know that this has been mentioned before but I just tried a small QB against the computer (300 pts axis assault with +25% for the axis). I allowed myself to pick troops as the defender and let the computer pick for the axis. I set up like normal and then locked in on my frontal units in the "1" position and never left that view. What fun! I could hear tanks rolling up, or at least one tank, but without being able to lift the camera view for a "birds eye view" I was only able to get a rough idea of where it was based on my headphones (I don't use speakers) and tabing between units. When the tank did poke its head out it was my AT gun that spotted it first (lucky for me or the battle might have tuned out very differently). I am in the middle of a QB with me as the axis assualting allied positions in the snow. A realtively flat field with a scattering of trees. Normally a pretty boring map that might result in me starting over again to try something more interesting. Hell no! By keeping the camera tabing around at the "1" view it is very exciting trying to figure out where the tracer fire is coming from and who is in those scattered trees. I think it might be too tedious to play this way for larger maps with large numbers of units but I tell you this game has been revived for me with regards to playing the computer. Not since "a chance encounter" have I been so excited playing the computer! Cheers,
  10. This would be your best bet... http://ns9.super-hosts.com/~dragonlair.net/combatmission/
  11. Hi there, A little off topic but does anyone have an opinion as to why the Russians (and pretty much everyone else eventually) went with Diesel and the Yankees went with Gas? I know that Diesel is more energy efficient and less flamible but there has to be some reason why the americans used and still use gas powered tanks to this day. Hell, even the Canadians (and I am one) converted their tanks to diesel after watching a few brew up after taking hits. Cheers,
  12. Hi folks, Sorry if this has been answered already but I am looking to simulate a pre-bombared German attack battle. I know how to make craters, how to make destroyed buildings (a shame you can't damage them a little), I can make the troops rattled -- but what is escaping me is how to make them injured a bit. I know how to do this with a quick battle but I want to have more control over it. Anyone help me out? Cheers, Jason (yaba)
  13. Ok -- out of morbid curiousity I gave this a shot. Nothing doing! If I load an opponent's PBEM file and type in my password nothing happens -- it just goes blank and "asks" me to try again...
  14. Yup -- that would be a strange one. Never had it happen before. I guess if that could happen then it is possible that the game could make a mistake and lose track of the order of planning. Still, I am wondering if anyone else has had this happen to them.
  15. Ok -- don't know if this has ever happend to anyone else but I thought I would put it out there... I am in a PBEM game and had a double turn of sorts. I recieved a turn where I watched and then planned (the 5th turn and planning for the 6th). I zipped up the e-mail and sent it back to my opponent who then planned his turn (6th). He then zipped up his turn and sent it back to me -- to my suprise it was just a planner for the 6th turn. I have the files saved so it is not a matter of re-numbering -- I reviewed my watcher/planner and compared it to my planner (both for the 6th turn). The orders were exactly the same as after I had adjusted my watcher/planner move! Just wondering if anyone else has ever had this happen to them. Cheers, Yaba
  16. In the same respect -- I have had a Sherman 105 have an "excelent" chance to take out a concrete bunker from the side -- no such luck...
  17. Well, I think I opened my mouth a little too quickly: I did a quick test and found that a PZ IV has about a 47% chance of hiting a sideways stationary M18 at 750m. I built a pavment map with one ridge separating each side so that the M18 could get full speed and then just pop out the other side before either tank had a chance to shoot. The results -- the PZIV has a 9% chance of hitting the M18 doing 55mph and the M18 has a 2% chance of hitting the PZIV while traveling at that speed. I beg forgivness for ever doubting the balistics of this game. I feel shame.
  18. Ok, Possiblities are that this has already been discussed, but having said that... Do people think that the speed of a moving target is taken realistically into account in how hard a target is to hit? For example an I would think that given WWII optics systems that a M18 doing 55 mph down a road would make a pretty hard target for a side shot from just about any unit. Just a thought -- maybe I have been just very unlucky Cheers,
  19. Hey Ligur, It is my understanding that those explosive ladden dogs were not very effective. Once the Germans caught on to watch out for dogs they shot any dog near their tanks on sight. Read "Panzer General" -- a Biography of Hanz von Luck. He talks breifly about his encounters with those dogs on the Eastern front. Read it anyway, it is a very good book. Luck fought on every major Front and eventually was captured by the Russians and spent 5 years in a camp after the war. Cheers, Yaba
  20. Just recently I observed a .50 cal take out the gun on a hetzer! Myself, I have taken out a PZIV from behind with the .50 cal from a scout car. This would seem to confirm what illo has for numbers. Looks like those .50's pack quite the punch. Cheers, Yaba
  21. Hey Juardis, Nope, that is not an option for any operation. The defender digging in is an option for battles -- nothing similar for operations. Still, having the battle edited before we engage should work... Cheers, Yaba
