  1. Hey Juardis, True -- I am not completely abandoning operations. I am still planing on playing operations where I am the attacker agianst the computer. Where the problem lies is in playing some of the outstanding operations that are out there now agianst a human player. I guess it would be possible to get a friend to omit the nighttime part of the operations first and solve the problem. I wonder about not allowing the attacker to dig in. I will check it out and get back to you. Cheers, Yaba
  2. True -- not looking for a patch to come out for CM. Just thought they might like to know. I sent them an e-mail and it turns out they didn't know. They are looking into it and that is fine by me. Cheers,
  3. Cool Gyrene, Glad to know that the powers that be know of the problem. I understand that there will be no more updates to CM. Just hoping that it would be noticed before CMBB came out. Cheers, Yaba
  4. Just wondering if anyone knows to whom bugs should be reported? I know that the vast majority seem to have been found (axis flack vehicles, etc) but the one that Wittman points out I have just discovered myself and can honestly say that I won't play an operation against a fellow human opponent again. As far as playing the computer I will now only play it as the attacker as it would be no fun to always know where to drop your arty when the sun comes up. Cheers, Yaba
  5. Actually, Wittman I think you have a good point. I too have found this and now after having done a little testing find that it happens every time. Does anyone know of someone who may be contacted with regards to bugs? It would be a shame if this mistake made it into CMBB. Cheers, Yaba
  6. Um, got a strange one here... Has anyone noticed that when playing an operation it is possible to see the foxholes of the attacking enemy after the nighttime stage of the battle has ended (the dawn setup)? I am currently involved in an operation where I was being attacked in a destroy operation. I survived the night but my opponent got around me. My setup zone put me well towards the end of the map. To my surprise when day broke I could see some "unaccounted for" foxholes in areas where I should not be able to see them. I tested this again by making up my own quick operation and duplicated the results. The attacking side will have thier foxholes shown to the defenders even when it seems that the defender would not have a line of sight to the location. Bug? Or are my guys just recieving some top notch intelligence? Thanks for any input into this matter, Cheers, Yaba
  7. I have been quite fond of playing both Brits and Canadians for the past few Quick Battles. I am quite fond of a number of British units (Churchill VIII, Wasp, Wolverine, Sexton, PIAT, 4.2 inch arty). About the only thing that doesn't match up too well is the infantry straight up against German SMG or regular squads. Still, it is fun to mix things up a little. Yaba
  8. You might consider putting a major flag on the American's side. This might entice the computer to go try and capture it. Yaba
  9. Thanks! I feel better now. If any of you want I could e-mail you the map and you guys could give it a whirl. I recommend playing against a human. Yaba
  10. I think that you might want to post specific scenario questions on the Scenario Forum... Spoiler???? = = = = = = You might want to use your light artillery for smoke cover to move your troops through the open areas. Keep your squads in tight with each other and leap frog them forward in order that they might support one another. I suggest you try to flank known defensive positions but I guess that is just common sense. Hope this helps, Yaba
  11. To jump to the defence of the Greyhound... I once took out a Panther at 220 meters with a side shot. Hmmmmm... the only thing that I think that make a big difference with the Stuart is the armour all around. Don't get too crazy with it -- the armour is thin! But at least it covers the whole vehicle... Yaba
  12. sound good -- I would love to give it a shot -- should I play PBEM or against the AI? e-mail me a jasoncamp@beer.com Thanks, Yaba
  13. Howdy, I just recently created a axis attack scenario where the attacking force was slightly underpowered compared to the defending force. However, there were a number of factors in favour for the attacker such as artillery, nightime, and a snowstorm. I know that this can be construed as difficult for the attacker but I have found that if the attacker uses these conditions to her or his favour than she or he can do some serious damage. Am I being unfair here? Should I always make a scenario where the attacker always outpoints the defender? Yaba
  14. I can confirm with Gryene. I have seen my demo charges going quite wide of the mark. Still, the range is definately limmited so you had better get in close... Yaba
  15. Well, I guess I may as well chuck in my two bits worth... I agree with the above statements that it totally depends on what you are using the tank for so I am just going to mention some of my favourites: British: Churchill VIII -- this ugly tank can shrug off most anything that gets shot at it's front. Very good for a frontal assault when you expect immediate contact or are trying to flesh out some defences. It's hollow point shells can crack through most German armour even at a distance. Devistating on infantry and buildings! Very cheap for a big tank as well with a fast turret to boot. The one SERIOUS drawback is the lack of hollow point shells. There is a good chance that in a quick battle you will end up with only a couple of shells -- sometime none (happened to me). Another thing to be aware of is that it is terribly slow! American: Stuart -- this little guy can hardly be called a tank in comparison with the Churchill. But what it lacks in power it makes up for in speed. If used correctly a few of these tanks in the right conditions can cause fits for a German Commader by exposing flanks and drawing fire away from the real tank killers. German: Panther (Late) -- Hard to argue with the quality of this beast. It seems to blend the best of speed, armour and weaponry. The only weakness of these tanks is the cost. Yaba
  16. I agree with the two statements above. AT guns are cheap and effective so long as they get the first shot off and not the other way around. Could it be that the enemy had a scout party close to you and spotted your position? To counter this you might consider giving your AT gun a bit of infantry support. If they are hidden but at different positions they might spot your enemy before they spot you. A sniper works well in this capacity. To boot the sniper might get a shot off at a tank and kill/wound the commander. A tank that is button up is next to blind...
  17. You might want to keep in mind that if you field of view is limited (weather, smoke, night, etc) then you may be viewing a completely wrong unit. For example, playing a scenario a while ago I encountered a "Panther". I was able to TAB and take a good look at it even as it fired upon my troops. As my armour got closer the "Panther" turned out to be a Panzer IV. Whew! Yaba
  18. Never mind! Just rubbed a couple of brain cells together and picked up the manual -- explained that in some operations the nighttime encounters are only for set up - not for battle. However, as I write this, I am a little confused as to why it would say that the nighttime "battle" is supposed to last 15 minutes... hmmmm... Yaba
  19. Hi there, I was playing this scenario as Allies and had just finished completing the first battle and had finished my set up for the second battle (nighttime). I hit go and all of the sudden the battle was over. I hadn't even played the first turn! I then went and restarted it again, in case it was just a glitch in the save, and whammo -- same thing. (as a side note -- when playing it the second time I just kept hitting go without issuing orders to any of my troops -- on about the 8 turn a Panther came rolling into the sights of one of my Greyhounds and the Greyhound took him out from 220m with a side shot!). Has this, the premature ending of the night move, happened to anyone else? thanks, Yaba
  20. Thanks for the advice! I have been taking what you folk said to heart and it has been working quite well. However, I just found out that my opponent did not have 880 points -- he had 1324 points! When we started the quick battle we decided that the attacker should get at least a 10% bonus. So, we added that into the battle. Little did we realize that the attacker already had a 50% bonus giving him a total of 65% more points to work with (after adding the 10% ontop of the 50% bonus)!!! Now, I still think I could have done better -- but at least I am not delusional wondering where all his troops came from on a 880 point budget! Thanks again, Yaba
  21. I find them hard to use on the assault. However, I just recently had a bit of success with them on defence. I hid one FT unit in a building kitty corner to a building that I thought my enemy might use for cover. In another large building I hid a FT unit in the back/bottom floor. Both FT unit set up their own ambush markers and waited. As it turned out, on the exact same turn, my opponent came waltzing into both buildings. Whoosh. Both building went up in flames and a few squads of germans were set looking for some serious sunscreen. The FT unit that was in the building managed to extract himself without getting hurt (he lived a couple of more minutes before being gunned down). The other FT unit was set upon by just about every piece of armour that had HE. Dead in five. However, both buildings were denied to my opponent and he was forced to take residence in buildings that I had a good line of sight on with my infantry. Apart from that I think that the units that were torched ended up quite rattled. It worked quite well... The only success I have had with FT units on the offensive supporting roles with the WASP. And that is only with some Allied infantry to hold the enemy infantry at bay while I scoot the WASPs into place.
  22. Collateral Damage -- definately... My first experience with tanks was taking on a friend in the second scenario of the demo version. I knew that he had an anti-tank gun up in a bunker on the hill so I maneuvered my Shermans to my far right flank. My two tanks, while avoiding LOS of the anti-tank gun (75mm) got a little bit too close to the woods and a lone Panzerschrek unit took out both tanks from about 120m away (nice shots). My first tank exploded into flames instantly killing the bazooka team that was hitching a ride on it. My second tank faired slightly better being only knocked out and the MG team that was on the back got off an avenged the death of the tanks on the Panzershrek... Yaba
  23. Hi there, Just wondering if anyone knows if CM takes into account when calculating the victor the original ratio of the different types of Battles in the QuickBattle option. For example, in an assault type Battle the attacker gets 75% more points to start off with. Does that mean that the defender must inflict that many more casulties or does a assault type map favour the "good effort - too bad you lost" defender? Yaba

  25. Howdy, Just a question about Canadian Units and Tactics in CM… I have been playing CM for a couple of months now and, to quote an Eighties band, “Luvin every minute of it”. I have played as Germans and Americans and have enjoyed quite a bit of success at either. However, just the other day I played against a friend of mine as Canadians in a quick battle and had my butt handed to me on a platter. I was defending a town (800pts) and he was on the attack (880pts) I must admit that my opponent played well, using his infantry and armour in support with one another. However, I anticipated his attack and he walked right into it. To my surprise, when his German infantry walked over my ambush markers my Canadian firepower left a bit to be desired. When I took a look at the firepower (enter button) I was surprised at how low it was. At this point I was in trouble as instead of causing some major damage with my infantry ambush I was instead being forced to pull back to a secondary line of defence. To boot, my 6 lbs’ers although having a wonderful rate of fire were far less effective than I might have hoped (he had left a mobile gun, half-track, and a artillery piece out in the open at about 400m away – my initial attack took out his mobile gun and got about 6 shots off at his artillery piece 88% to hit – and yet did not take it out before it turned and clobbered me). I guess what I am asking is for advice on a good combination of Canadian units. I am Canadian myself and I suppose that I will figure out a system for myself, but I would love any advice that people might have. Thanks eh (note the colourful Canadian slang), Yaba
